Given that the frame has finally settled into its shape and you have no intention of ever selling it, I suspect your best move would be to simply invest in some new SLX components. If you pick up a fresh air fork next year—which I believe is still available for $500 new—you could bypass all this tedious tinkering altogether. You'd end up with a top-tier trail bike, while you could pass the fork and the old parts down to your brother. As for the rest, I'm sure you could find decent replacements on Craigslist quite affordably
Edward Long2 - if you check out bike24, you can actually pick up an SLX groupset—including the crankset, shifters, front and rear derailleurs, cassette, and chain—for about $250... and that's just for a 10-speed setup.
Don't bother looking at local prices; you're better off checking what you'd find on REI, Backcountry, or even specialized sites like Competitive Cyclist to get a real sense of the market...
Which specific parts are we talking about here? I have to wonder if they’re actually worth the investment, or if we're just paying a premium for components that are already worn out and destined for a landfill...

Anyway, the enrollment cutoff is April 1st. Kids born before that date go to school; those born after don't. Unless, of course, parents request an exception.
My experience was much the same... I was born toward the end of April, so I didn't actually start school until I was seven years and four months old. My mother chose not to petition for early enrollment because she wanted me to have one more year of being a kid without any pressures. I already knew how to read and write—I picked it up in preschool out of pure curiosity—so I found the beginning of elementary school a bit tedious while the rest of my classmates were still catching up. I don't recall literacy ever being a prerequisite for entry; after all, the whole point of school is to learn those skills. That said, I had a colleague from college who started at five years and eleven months, and another at six years and three months. Both sets of parents filed for early admission, though I must admit I'm still somewhat baffled by how the former managed to get approved at such a young age.🤷
I’m looking at your situation from my own perspective, so please don't feel obligated to agree with me...
It sits poorly with me that your father would ask you to renounce your share of the apartment; if I were in your shoes—say, if I had a child of my own—I could never bring myself to make such a request...
Given that your father was the one who received the property in this scenario, he could at least offer some form of financial assistance to bridge the gap...
As for the idea of living in that apartment, I find it somewhat understandable; you aren't alone, and you'd likely want to bring someone else into that space, which, as someone currently living there, I would find quite uncomfortable and frankly unacceptable, so I would have to say no...
As for protecting against U-locks, I use two smaller, less transparent stickers, though I find myself swapping them out constantly... even if it hasn't really made much of a difference—the U-lock still managed to gouge right through that section....
Jesse Long5 said:Wait, did Salsa really get shut down? 😢 And if she did, does anyone actually know if they have any branches over in SLO...
You might want to check the website for that shopping center in Ljubljana—Salsa used to be there... they definitely had a much wider selection than what we see around here.
I recall that bicycle quite clearly... if I remember correctly, it was mentioned in a thread about what bikes everyone owns... I believe I even posted a link to those Battaglino decals for you 😁
though, perhaps, a photo would be better so we can see how the bike is looking these days...
There’s a sale running at Target and Kohl's right now where all the denim is half off. Prices range from $200 down to $133, depending on which style you pick, though most of them fall around $100.... there’s still a decent variety of sizes and cuts available, mostly because their warehouses are overflowing... they’ve clearly run out of shelf space in the stores.
Given how things have been unfolding lately, it seems entirely plausible that they might shutter operations at both CC1 and WG... which means I’ll likely find myself heading back to Celje once again. 😳
In all those Salsa retail shops (like CC1 W, WG, and GM)... I can't quite recall what they're charging for those push-up tops since it’s been a while... but their standard denim prices usually hover around $500 - $267 depending on the specific cut
