briskhound2 said:just another typical teen movie

I have to disagree; this is far from just another standard teen flick. It represents an EXCELLENT fusion of the teen genre and the dance genre, bolstered by sharp direction, a meticulously crafted script, meaningful themes, and EXCELLENT choreography. 👍 👍 👍 👍

It is a high-energy film, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something engaging!

briskhound2 said:overloaded with clichés

The screenplay is so carefully structured, especially when paired with the dance sequences and strong direction, that those supposed clichés don't even register. Furthermore, the character development is quite superb.

Because the film innovatively blends the teen and dance genres, it moves beyond the simple label of being "cliché."

briskhound2 said:but it is far from being a good comedy or drama or... whatever it's trying to be.

The film stands as an excellent teen movie, and it isn't a bad comedy either, given the comedic beats it delivers.

briskhound2 said:(in the end the poorer school wins—totally unexpected—while the white kids happily take second place—how politically correct)

The Clovers won COMPLETELY DESERVEDLY. Their performance was phenomenal. 👍 They excelled at both the regional and national levels. Likewise, The Bulls earned their second-place finish through genuine effort. In my view, the racial dynamics were irrelevant to the outcome.

Dennis Lewis50 said:I watched the movie, and to put it mildly, it was a disaster. I couldn't even make it to the end.

What specifically makes it a disaster in your eyes? Personally, I thought it was excellent. In fact, I think I'll watch it a second time just to confirm my own take.
A truly magnificent film. It is visually stunning and rich with poignant, nostalgic details. I cannot recommend it highly enough! 👍

I just came across some absolutely stellar news: they are officially moving forward with production on Hairspray 2! 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍 It’s set to be helmed by the same director as the original.

Principal photography is slated to kick off in 2010.

Coming in fifth place is "Marley & Me". I was under the impression this film was released in 2009, but it actually hit theaters back in 2008. It is quite an endearing movie, even if the screenplay itself is remarkably uninspiring and poorly executed.

I just revisited it in a video clip! 😍 This film is absolutely brilliant—a total masterpiece. It’s a pure, high-octane musical, easily one of the greatest in the genre, right up there with "Moulin Rouge". Honestly, it stands as one of the finest films ever made. The soundtrack is flawless. And as for James Marsden... the transformation from his role in "Sex Drive" to this is staggering; I almost didn't recognize him! It’s such a shame they never released a special two-disc DVD edition here in the States.

An incredibly poor film. It tries to pass itself off as a romantic drama, but in reality, it’s just an uninspired script built entirely on tired clichés.

I've managed to rack up a few more titles for my all-time favorites list:

Coming in third place is "the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon," which is a truly stellar foreign production.

4. Definitely, Maybe—I popped this one into my DVD player specifically because I was looking for another Isla Fisher performance following the enjoyment I found in Confessions of a Shopaholic. It turned out to be an excellent choice; a sharp comedic drama with a clever script, plenty of laughs, and solid acting across the board.

5. Twilight

6. Sex Drive—a very cool teen movie. It relies heavily on lowbrow humor, but it is undeniably funny.

7. Speed Racer

8. Taken

9. Milk—I found myself quite enjoying this film about gay activism. To be honest, I wasn't feeling it at first, but as the story approached its conclusion, I became increasingly invested. I don't typically care for Van Santa's work, so this was a genuine surprise.

That was an absolutely fantastic film! I truly enjoyed every minute of it. 😍
Harvey Milk (2008) in Movies ·
An absolutely stellar film! My only gripe was how somewhat manipulative it felt during that scene where he gets shot while staring at Tosca. I’m generally not a fan of Gus Van Sant, so this was a genuine surprise to me. 😍 To top it off, I actually walked out of the theater with a free DVD of The Lives of Others 😍

This is a seriously great teen comedy!

However, I have to say, that scene involving the opossum was absolutely unnecessary. 👎

Josh Zuckerman is incredibly charismatic and genuinely likable.

Amanda Crew is wonderful.

Katrina Bowden is quite stunning. 😍

The mother character is completely wild. 🤣

To strikes me as having the potential to be a stellar sci-fi action flick, especially if they nail the visual effects.

My top cinematic picks:

1. City of Ember - This is a fantastic piece of Sci-Fi. It carries such great energy and features truly eccentric characters. While the resolution feels a bit brief and somewhat simplistic, the ending is absolutely BRILLIANT, leaving you with the lasting impression that you've just watched a GREAT film. The lead actors are superb; honestly, everything about it works perfectly! 😍 Hint: Think Dark City, but perhaps in a slightly milder, more family-friendly version.

2. High School Musical 3: Senior Year - An exceptional musical, particularly featuring that magical song Can I Have This Dance. 😍

3. Twilight

4. Speed Racer - I actually found myself quite enjoying this incredibly VIBRANT film. 😍

5. Taken

Biggest disappointments: "Yes Man", "Australia", "The Dark Knight", "Penelope", and "Camp Rock".
Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann in Movies ·

Moulin Rouge! is simply too long.
Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann in Movies ·
This movie is garbage. Baz Luhrmann has completely missed the mark here. When you look at "Moulin Rouge!", that is a phenomenal piece of cinema. In contrast, "USA" tries to pose as a Western, yet it fails to offer even a shred of directorial innovation. It’s practically non-existent. The script is lackluster, the sense of scale is missing, and honestly, it could have easily been two hours shorter—it drags on for three. Even when it comes to the romance, Baz Luhrmann fails miserably, which is exactly where he should be shining. The love story isn't even central to the plot; it barely kicks in toward the end, despite being the thread that is supposed to tie everything together. All in all, 👎 👎 👎 👎

P. S. "Moulin Rouge!" isn't even kitsch, let alone pathetic.

P. S. S. Maybe I don't have "USA," but I do have "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and "Twilight."😍
