Maybe they should try making a move out there, you know? Places like New York City always have plenty of room and actual respect for musicians who actually have talent.

It’s a weird mix, honestly—you’ve got all this heavy stuff like blood and dragons on one hand, then you’re pivoting straight into those lighthearted rom-coms starring Hugh Grant and Meg Ryan.

oho, what a groundbreaking take. Here’s my personal top three list of amateur opinions that I just can't wrap my head around:

1. It would have been better if they just broke up.
2. It's actually stupid that they reunited—or they probably won't reunite.
3. I really hope they don't record any new material.

Look, I want CBS, one of my all-time favorite bands, to keep touring for decades and drop a mountain of studio albums, even if none of them touch the high bar set by their early 90s stuff.

I'd also definitely show up for an Eyes Adrift reunion because that album was solid and had some real soul to it.

Includes both.
It even includes Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

So, it was bound to happen eventually. Fine by me. I might give it a look. Carpenter's Assault is an incredible flick. People call it horror mostly because of what he did later on, and while calling it an action movie isn't totally wrong, I’d argue it’s probably the quietest action movie ever made. If you were just describing the plot to someone, it would sound like a total B-movie actioner, and there's a real chance this remake turns out to be exactly that kind of thing. But Carpenter's version feels more like this uneasy, heavy drama. There are two specific sequences that elevate this otherwise solid film into something great: 1) the murder of the girl with the ice cream and 2) that drawn-out, repetitive gunfire seen famously from the inside.

Honestly, I haven't sat through a single bad movie directed by John Carpenter. (And yeah, that includes Ghosts of Mars.)
Just chill out for a second, because Britney just dropped her new album.

P. S. Nobody better lay a finger on Britney.

I checked out Soderbergh's version and it’s alright, though I couldn't shake the feeling that the lead actress looks exactly like Celine Dion.

That five-minute driving sequence in the Tarkovsky cut—if you can even call it that—is honestly one of the most beautiful stretches of cinema I've ever laid eyes on. I caught a similar vibe in Stalker, specifically when they're cruising around in that rugged vehicle right before everything shifts into color. Plus, those sound effects are absolutely phenomenal; none of today's electronic music producers, not even Autechre, could touch that kind of atmosphere.

As for the Complicator's theory regarding whether the visitors are actually visible on screen, I'm totally on board. If I come up with a more convincing argument, I'll let you guys know.

song of the week : Silver Jews - room Games and Diamond Rain. Back when the witch played a set in New York City, they tracked this live in the studio and the composition just floored me; after hearing the studio version with all that Sacher influence, I’ve been stuck in a loop, honestly losing count of how many times I’ve hit replay—it's been a minute since a track hit me this hard.

Album of the week is the LP featuring this track—without silence! Calling this "folk" would be a massive oversimplification—to be as precise as I tend to be, I’d label it post-punk Krautrock pop, something uplifting but with actual teeth, mixed with some ballads including one that's gorgeous yet biting called Too Often, which is the first of two tracks sharing that title.

So nobody’s actually gonna drop his solo record? That’s just weird.

What about the TV stuff? Did he leak something that might end up on ABC or NBC?

Life is mostly just made up of small, insignificant things, so even if this isn't one of the most interesting albums ever made, I’d still rather have the whole thing.

Same here. 🙂

I guess I’ll only start actually listening to Tom Waits once he decides to make some sober, lucid music for once.

Album of the week—supposedly metal box by PIL. It showed up from Amazon, and I’m not kidding, it’s an actual metal box, but there’s zero tracklisting or credits included. I was like, what even is this? Then Amazon basically tells me they'll just send a replacement. Just stick to Amazon, I guess.

Song of the week? Hard to say. Ay, somewhere in here is The Seahorses - you Can talk to me, recorded live at the Jools Holland show. Go find the lyrics somewhere and just imagine me turning bright red. Just kidding, it’s actually a decent little tune, some pretty competent guitar pop. Calling John Squire "competent" feels like a total understatement, doesn't it? Speaking of Squire:

"Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now..."

The vision 👍 meets reality 😕

Doesn't mean I don't dig grunge because of the idealism
(look, I listen to stuff that’s also basically just a dream, like Imagine, but at least nobody's out here obsessing over their own twisted psyches)

Love is but a song we sing,
Hear a way we die.
You can make the mountains ring,
Hear the angels cry.
Tho' the dove is on the wing
You need not know why.

Hey, people now,
smile on your brother.
Let me see you get together,
Love one another right now.

Some will come and some will go,
We shall surely pass.
When the wind that left us here,
Returns for us at last.
We are but a moment's sunlight,
Fading on the grass.

Hey, people now,
smile on your brother.
Let me see you get together,
Love one another right now.

Hey, people now,
smile on your brother.
Let me see you get together,
Love one another right now.

If you hear the song I'm singing,
you will understand.
You hold the key to love and fear,
All in your trembling hand.
One key unlocks them both, you know,
It's at your command.

Maybe we should all just take a second to remember what I actually put down on the first page:
driftingeagle27 said:Nirvana was quite simply the most important band on the planet at the start of the nineties—and I mean important in that sense that includes their massive commercial dominance.

That one line pretty much sums up my whole stance on how influential Nirvana really was.

As for Nicholas Perez33 bringing up Fugazi and Slint, it honestly feels like nothing more than blatant name-dropping in this context. Look, I get it, your whole argument is basically that Nirvana musically speaking didn't have much of an impact on other "quality" bands. Fine, that’s a somewhat defensible take if you want to be pedantic. But then you just drop Fugazi out of nowhere. Sure, we can debate different kinds of influence, but musically? Who did Fugazi actually influence directly? Just dropping names to try and impress me? It’s not going to work, and honestly, you already impressed me enough with those http://hralttrash.tk reviews.

Do you guys need me to draw it out for you?

Ready?

Sure?

Here it is:
Nirvana is a massively influential band because they shifted the entire world more than any group since The Beatles, and frankly, no band since Nirvana has ever pulled off anything even remotely close to it, and who knows if they ever will.

Trying to downplay Nirvana? Go ahead, be my guest, if that's what you really want to do. Just know there's a price for that: at best, you're just going to look ridiculous.
