Great playlist, Steven Newman50. I’ve actually had The Doors on repeat since yesterday, mixing them in with Madonna, Peaches, and just a whole bunch of other stuff. 😵
To be honest, I didn't even pick the songs myself—YouTube just auto-generated the whole thing for me. Honestly? It totally nailed it! 😬
But since we're talking about The Doors... Wintertime Love 🙂
So, the original plan was to suggest all those albums that didn't make the cut in the polls, but I guess not everyone caught my drift. Since we didn't have a ton of people stepping up with suggestions anyway, and I didn't want to kill the vibe, we just went ahead and released...
And it’s not like there isn't interest! We all know some of those albums lost by literally just one single vote. There are so many out there that totally deserve a group review session 🙂
But hey, starting next year, we're going back to the old way. Wouldn't want to confuse anyone more than necessary or act like some official government task force 😬
Since it’s Christmas, and we all know how things go when two or more albums end up tied in a vote, Amanda Robinson4 and I decided we should actually include more winning albums this time—just like she mentioned in her previous post before we started taking suggestions.
We originally agreed on having four winners, but because of those ties, we've ended up with eight. 🙂
We’re going to take a little break from the polls for New Year's Eve, so let's keep the suggestions and voting rolling through the week after. Until then, we have eight new albums ready to go!
Of course, this is a total one-time special exception...
Sweet. We've got J. J. Cale, Velvete, Myrkur, Killing Joka, and Autechre loaded up in the van along with a bunch of others... What a killer way to wrap up the year! 👍
In theory, it was a great concept, and with everyone involved, it felt like it had real legs... but man, what a letdown. About halfway through, I just completely checked out. I found myself just sitting there, waiting to see how they’d wrap it all up, feeling totally numb and unable to actually care about any of the characters. And that’s a huge red flag for me. Such a massive waste of potential...

Look, as an action flick, it actually holds up quite well. But if you're looking for a gritty, historical war movie... yeah, not really.
The whole thing about those two rival snipers is basically made up! In the book the movie was based on, *Zaitsev Didn't Know Who He Was Messing With*, they claim Wendell Schmidt was later identified as a sniper school instructor in Germany (whatever that school was supposed to be)...
But hey, official records totally debunk that. There wasn't even a sniper with that last name in the US Army, and there aren't any other official documents from the Soviet Union side that back up this whole Zaitsev story about him facing off against another veteran sniper.
I guess legends just grow when people are still alive to tell them, so there was plenty of room for myths and tall tales. Plus, the movie doesn't even have much of an anti-war message; it mostly just celebrates heroes pulling off impossible missions...
Still, if you watch it purely as fiction and pure entertainment—which is how you should probably approach it—it does its job! Just wish it didn't lean so hard into the cheesy romance and melodrama, which drags the rating down a bit...
The action sequences? Man, they were killer. Especially those sniper duels—just pure, heart-pounding tension. If the whole movie had just focused on that, it would’ve been an absolute masterpiece...
But then you get to that romantic subplot... honestly, it felt totally unnecessary. It was kind of a drag and really killed the momentum. It felt like those annoying commercial breaks you get on network TV during a football game.
Honestly, right from the jump, this beats just about any similar Hollywood concept you'd find on Netflix. It’s genuinely engaging and fun enough that you can pretty much ignore all those tired old clichés... My only real gripe is the music choice in certain scenes; it felt almost like a parody. I couldn't tell if they were leaning into a specific "trashy" aesthetic or what, but that was definitely the vibe I got.
Overall, it's a solid watch—perfect mindless entertainment when you just want to switch your brain off for a bit. No need to overthink it!
Nah, but you don't really have many options to choose from anyway. It's just the chat and the Album of the Week 😁 Once you open the thread, it’ll definitely show up red if that's what you're worried about...
There’s just something about those sci-fi animated flicks from the 80s... they have this magic, you know? Between the settings, the vibes, the soundtracks, and that stunning, almost hypnotic animation style, it turns into this total psychedelic trip.
It kind of reminds me of other movies from that era I saw when I was way younger. Back then, the stories didn't really grab me—not because anything was actually wrong with them! They work perfectly fine exactly as they are, I just think I would've been much more sucked into the experience if I'd seen them back when I was first discovering stuff like this and could actually appreciate it properly (felt the same way about Laloux's Fantastic Planet when I watched it recently, too).
For me, the draw here is purely the design and how everything looks visually... and honestly, if that alone makes it worth a watch, then it's worth it. I mean, it's Moebius, after all!

Solved (just posting here so I don't clutter up the good discussion 🙂 ). Basically, you should be able to do it right when you start a new thread! You just grab that prefix next to the title, and "Album of the Week" is one of the options. That's really all there is to it. Just a little technical thing that turns it red... 😉

Hey, so I actually met Ikeyj once! He was the keyboard player back when he was with... Free Moral Agents... Man, catching that show at KSET was something else! I really wish I could’ve caught The Mars Volta live, though... they split up just a year before he passed away. But hey, I'll take what I can get, right? At least I got to experience some incredible live music!
So, the other day Lisa Davis46 actually introduced me to the Discipline of Crimson album... and man, talk about a total game changer! this apparatus... Honestly, it sounds like something they just listened to on repeat until it was burned into their brains, and then they just copied it down later... 😁 And it's not just them either! I find myself listening to her all the time, seriously... she's just so good!
I'm just sitting here waiting for someone else to kick things off! If there’s one thing I’ve been obsessing over lately, it’s definitely progressive rock... I haven't actually dived deep enough into Crimson to feel like I could write the opening post myself, even though they're absolutely incredible...😉
You have no idea how many times I’ve blasted this on repeat! Seriously... 😁
I’ve always been a bit of a vigilante myself... just out there trying to hunt down the truth! 😁 Total beginner at this whole linchpin thing... just trying to find my footing!
Man, that was such a great little reminder. I ended up rewatching it, and honestly? It just keeps getting better every single time I see it... 👍
