Taking such a heavy-handed approach to a silly premise like this... Honestly, some people have already mentioned it has potential, but because the setup is so goofy, the movie's tone feels way too serious and just ends up being exhausting. Though, I will say, those scenes with Gibson are mostly pretty solid.
Haltet Alla Uhren an Hindert den Hund daran Das rad anzubellen wo immer ich aufschlage find ' ich dich du fällst oni Schatten der Tage Als Stille und Stich ich trink Hindert den Hund daran Das Rad anzubellen
Wherever I land, there you are... Falling through the shadows of the days Like silence and a sting I'm drinking dozens of Flaschen Wein und just to toast you... But honestly? I'd much rather be a little maggot...
Jason Mendoza said:Hey guys, I was thinking... we should probably start a thread where we can just vent about music we absolutely hate, but let's keep it chill so nobody takes it personally! Just a fun way to talk about the stuff that drives us crazy... without the drama! 😁
So, looking back at that list Anderlon posted at the start of this thread, the top four spots are just The Beatles, then Radiohead, then The Beatles again, then Radiohead... 😁 And fifth place? You guessed it—The Beatles.
I mean, come on, this is just straight-up classic stuff. I’ve listened to all these albums at totally different points in my life, but I just realized they all dropped in the exact same year! 🙂
Your deep-dive study of music by era and decade is honestly impressive, but you don't really need to go that deep for this one... 😉 It’s just a massive lineup of iconic names and legendary albums all in one spot.
Lisa Davis46 said:An absolute classic... truly. Right at the very peak of '69...I mean, if we’re being totally real about it... Ever....
I'm just looking over this list right now, and man... what a killer harvest '69 was! 👍 🙏
We’ve got The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, and Frank Zappa in the mix... plus two different Led Zeppelin vibes! And honestly, I don't even need to bring up Nick Drake or Miles Davis specifically... they just speak for themselves... And some others too, just so nobody feels left out... 🕺😬
Last year was all about hardcore, so let's kick things off with a post-hardcore suggestion... 😁 If you guys are down, we can start building up some momentum for our new weekly album picks! 👍
Just a heads-up, I actually had goosebumps while watching this... which honestly doesn't happen for me very often when it comes to horror movies.
Okay, so as an anthology of short horror films, it feels a bit disjointed and uneven. Only really two of them stood out to me because of their core concept and how they built up the suspense. A few could've definitely been trimmed down, and yeah, not every segment hits the mark.
Even though that whole VHS glitch aesthetic feels a little forced at times, the approach totally works because the surreal effects look so convincing. It’s way better than relying on cheap, bad CGI... the practical makeup and editing here really work wonders!
And looking at the horror elements themselves—beyond just the slashers and the gore—it seems like these evil forces mostly strike during intimate moments. It basically turns those promising, fun nights for teenagers (mostly straight guys) into absolute nightmares by tapping into all those hidden anxieties...😬
Dreamy and totally magical musical filled with Disney tracks that honestly wouldn't be out of place at the Eurovision... 😬 Overall, it’s just a big, bubbly family flick. A little too cheesy for my taste, though I will say it definitely has its moments!
It’s basically a legal nightmare wrapped in some heavy character studies. She’s an ex-addict who loses the house she inherited, and he’s this former Iranian colonel and military man forced to flee to the USA, working dead-end jobs while lying to his family just to maintain some sense of dignity... Once he snaps up her place at a bargain price, the whole fight for ownership kicks off.
Honestly, you’ve got all the ingredients for a killer drama here, but the directing and writing are so messy that the tragic beats feel accidentally hilarious. It actually leaves you feeling totally numb by the end.
Such a shame, too, because a good chunk of the movie actually holds together and works quite well... right up until the finale where everything just completely falls apart.
Both Kingsley and Agdhashloo landed Oscar nominations for their performances here. We've seen him in much better roles, though, whereas for her, this was pretty much her biggest mainstream breakthrough.
Finally, an animated flick that’s actually existential and depressing. 🙂
Reading through this thread after finishing it, I honestly can't figure out where everyone went wrong... people are reading this doll as if she's supposed to be Lisa, turning the whole thing into some weird Lisa fantasy. 🤷 Sure, there's plenty of symbolism flying around, but at its core, it's really just about a main character hitting a massive midlife crisis—he's totally messed up, frustrated, and just plain miserable.
People keep throwing the name "Fregol" around, which is basically the only part you can actually Google that relates to the plot—that whole delusion where everyone starts looking exactly the same. But honestly? The movie doesn't really dig much deeper than what's right in front of you.
It's strange, it's odd, it's tragic... but man, it really sticks with you.
Honestly, there’s so much room here for some really cool stats 👍
And let's not forget how these more controversial albums always kick off the best deep dives 👍 regarding o golotinja, or music and silence. We even had those side discussions popping up, like death, transformation... (think Prince, that lyric from Dennis Hall41, and those comparisons to Bowie)
I'm really hoping we get a ton of similar ideas and fresh debates rolling in this year 🙂
On a totally different note, we've started rolling out some new concepts, so as of today, we officially have a review thread similar to the classic one over at Film. Just a little bit of everything 🎉
It’s basically just another cookie-cutter Hollywood production starring some seasoned vets. There isn't anything groundbreaking or even remotely fresh about it... honestly, the only reason to sit through it is for Morgan Freeman and Meryl Streep. And even then, it would've been great if they hadn't pulled that predictable twist at the end—it felt like such a weak idea for what they were trying to do...
Larry Walker24 said:It’s basically a prequel to Twin Peaks, picking up four years after this movie ends. Even the soundtrack gives off those same vibes. It's just totally surreal...
That being the style, really. The actual plot doesn't have much to do with Twin Peaks at all.
Once you let Samuel L. Jackson step in to de-escalate things, you just get this gut feeling that he’s actually going to pull it off... 😬
Honestly, it's basically just a torture porn flick that tries to tackle whether violence is ever okay during interrogations—you know, the whole "ends justify the means" debate. It doesn't really give you a straight answer, though. Instead, it just keeps spiraling into this weirdness on both sides, topped off with a bunch of total nonsense...
I mean, sure, it gets moving, but by the end, the whole thing feels kind of mediocre.
The roles and characters? Absolutely top-tier. That’s the big one right there. I don't even need to harp on how sharp the writing is... and yeah, Aaron Sorkin definitely knows his way around a director's chair—we already knew that from Molly's game—but man, he really leveled up with this one.
Even though most of the action happens in the courtroom—which is basically his natural habitat at this point—what goes down outside those doors is just as vital.
The rest is pretty much what you'd expect: it's built on these intense clashes and punchy dialogue driven by powerhouse characters. What I found super interesting was how they balanced the screen time among that whole ensemble of A-listers. Everyone's performance is handled perfectly; nobody overpowers the scene, and everyone gets their moment to shine while serving the story perfectly.
nimblescout50 said:The movie is based on the life of Vasili Zaitsev... you really think he made all that up himself or was it the writer, the director, or whoever else?
Actually, the whole film is based on a book that everyone knows is mostly fiction anyway...
Christoph Waltz absolutely crushes it in a role that’s way more than just decent. He plays this slimy, slippery character perfectly—it's basically his specialty! 😁 Pattinson is okay, I guess, but the movie itself? Kind of weak. Honestly, I feel like people will forget all about this one pretty fast... But hey, at least we can cross it off our watchlist now. ☕
