Album of the week in Music ·
Alright, let's get the ball rolling with a brand new poll! This time around, you can pick more than one option, so don't hold back... go nuts!

Let me jump back in here too! 😛

nomeansno - Wrong (1989)

I'll leave this open until noon in case anyone else has a suggestion... then we can move to the poll!

Getting close! Kelly Clarkson is 🙂

I’ve always used that stuff to get myself hyped up, even if it sounds a little dark 😁 And look, I really hope what Dennis Hall41 is dreaming about is just a fluke. I mean, the pandemic is still hanging around, but as for that earthquake... man, nobody could have seen that coming. (Not that I actually ordered it for my birthday ☕ )

Anyway, I'm feeling some pretty chill, late-night vibes tonight: Fleet Foxes (that side project from the GY!BE guys)

So, following up on that šum video on YouTube, the algorithm just kept rolling with these artists... It’s not quite the same vibe as the last NP, and honestly, nothing groundbreaking here either, but it's still worth a spin (well, maybe for someone else, just a heads-up!): E-Play

Dennis Hall41 said:Some people claim this is the absolute best math-rock band (with some post-rock vibes) of the 21st century. Honestly, I don't know... I don't really follow that scene because most of it just bores me, especially stuff like Hell or Don Caballero.

There are definitely enough post-rock elements here to grab my attention. But as far as pure math rock goes, I have to admit I'm not a die-hard fan. Still, what you linked sounds more than good!

So yeah, a round of applause for Ashley Grant66, Jules, Lawrence Ross, and the late B... 🙂

Not exactly the topic, but the rest of the thread has been buzzing lately! I've actually discovered quite a bit through those "Album of the Week" threads we started recently, and I'm really digging the direction things are heading. Check it out sometime 😉

Just as I'm typing this, this song comes on: NP

Dennis Hall41 said:Speaking of post-rock and math-rock, have you ever checked out these guys?

Giraffes? Giraffes!

Well, I just did... and wow. It’s got a huge progressive vibe to it. Pretty wild choice considering how much you love those classic Americana anthems... 👍

Dennis Hall41 said:Nah, but back when things were happening three, four, five years ago... it definitely felt more alive than it does right now. Mostly just because there were about ten more of us around, but honestly, there were also those three or four coworkers who we really miss dearly.

Oh, but it’s actually way livelier now than it was this time last year! 🙂

I was just checking out "kad biti drveće" and man, I am just so stoked that we're keeping this same vibe going... 🙂

No way you're actually missing out on those days 😬

NP: Black Canyon

It used to be a total whirlwind around here once upon a time... 🙂 And yeah, feel free to jump into the chat! ☕

Lisa Davis46 said:Look, this is a chat thread, or at least that’s what I was told,
so I shouldn't sweat it if we wander off topic for a bit...

The whole point of the NP thread was explained ages ago right here 🙂

For anyone who needs the TL;DR version:
It's the thread where everyone posts what they're listening to, and it basically serves as our main hangout spot. You can talk about anything!

So, you really can't go off-topic even if you tried 😁 But hey, it’s totally fine if the comments stay somewhat related to the music, even if we end up spiraling into occultism or astrology or whatever...

Currently spinning: Blind 🙂

redbear12 said:Is it just the mods picking the albums of the week? How does this all work?

And can it be any genre? Like, could a classical album or some early folk stuff be the album of the week?

Anyone can pitch one, and any genre goes! We usually collect suggestions on Thursdays when the poll drops (once we've got about five picks ready). But, since we know not everyone hangs out here on Thursdays, we’ll occasionally make exceptions for early suggestions—especially for folks who don't usually chime in...

Honestly, though, I’d love to see more than just suggestions. I really want our new members to jump into the existing threads too! Even if an album isn't the current pick for the week, those threads stay open specifically so you can chat whenever you feel like it...

Look, we'll definitely keep this album in mind for the upcoming poll, but remember, it's only Monday and we're already on day three of the current pick...

See, William Foster15, was that really such a big ask? 🙂I’m gonna dive into this listening session myself, very soon... once I finally get this absolute madhouse I'm living in sorted out.

Post-rock vibes on a Saturday morning 🙂

Come on, William Foster15, there’s gotta be a reason you picked this specific album! Give us the backstory... otherwise, it just feels kind of generic, and we really want to dive in. Plus, people love having something to latch onto from the intro post. Think about it!
Album of the week in Music ·
Picking an album is pretty much up to whoever feels like it! The whole point is just to have something we can all dive into and chat about around the same time... There aren't any strict rules here. We might pick a massive classic that everyone already has opinions on, or maybe something totally underground that we can discover together without any preconceived notions... it's all part of the fun!

Look, it’s not set in stone. I could easily start a thread for a new release, but since I wouldn't know much about it, I'd probably just drop some basic info and a link to listen... But usually, we like to give the person suggesting the album plenty of space to set the stage! They often want to write a nice little intro about why that specific record means so much to them or why it's such a big deal...

So, yeah, William Foster15, what do you think? Do you want us to kick off the thread, or do you want to take the reins? It doesn't have to follow the usual format if you don't want it to!

Sometimes I’ll throw out an album on purpose even if it isn’t considered one of the absolute best. Honestly, I think Hendrix is the only real classic in this bunch... As for the rest, it's not that I haven't listened to them, it's just that I haven't even heard of most of them 😁

Maybe William Foster15 🙂

Here's what I'm thinking:

They’d be a perfect fit for a dive bar in Twin Peaks... 🙂When they start playing, you just get this sudden urge to go out and punch someone, honestly 😁
