SPOILER The whole thing feels like such a perfectly circular story, which really drives home why they picked that title in the first place. Like, the dad actually recognizes that one font—you know, the one that’s basically every designer's worst nightmare and a total running joke—which the son keeps bringing up throughout the movie. Plus, that little extra detail for the audience? It’s just such a sweet way to show them finally getting on the same page...
And honestly, the irony is just killing me. The dad goes from thinking the Comic Sans was some serious choice to realizing it’s actually engraved on a freaking headstone...
Honestly, I’m just so happy to see more of us jumping in to geek out and go back and forth about this band (or whatever you want to call them). If this whole debate hadn't kicked off the other day, I probably wouldn't have even bothered sitting down to listen more closely and form these kinds of opinions in a few posts...
And hey, it’s totally fine if someone hates it—just say so and try to explain why it doesn't click for you. Then the other side can jump in and counter those points. So, Dennis Hall41, your mission to stir the pot (in a good way!) has been a total success 😬
Plus, I don't see anyone acting like some obsessed Tool fanatic over Valentino Bošković (though man, I wouldn't mind if there actually were some 😁 ).
Just a little side note, though... I spent the entire day out in the woods today, zero cell service, nothing fancy, just doing the usual grunt work you do at this time of year. I didn't mean to say this explicitly, but it happened anyway—I guess that call from Marsot finally reached me, because all I could think about was "I just need to hear a Brian May solo" 😁
And, judging by that recent post about live shows during the lockdown, looks like they actually got what they wanted! You'll have to see just how far their sense of humor goes 😁
And honestly, it feels like everything released nowadays has to be some massive Top 10 hit just to matter.
To me, these guys are just musicians playing what they love, using this quirky, totally unique lyrical style you don't hear everywhere. And the best part? They aren't being loud or obnoxious about it—it’s subtle.
They actually remind me a bit of Radost! which leans more into that blues rock vibe. You know, those super talented musicians who can actually play their instruments and sound great, but still know how to have a good laugh. That’s the vibe I get from these guys too.
So I’m listening to them now and stumbled upon this collab with Pridjev, who are basically in the same vein but go much heavier on the psychedelic stuff. It’s just another refreshing name that doesn't get nearly enough hype. Anyway, I won't ramble on too long:
The ambient sounds are so soothing, and the lyrics really only hit you once you actually stop to listen. If I had this playing on the radio while driving or working on something, I probably wouldn't even notice the depth right away...
But that’s exactly what makes it feel fresh to me. Honestly, I’m digging this way more than most of the stuff coming out from local American artists lately.
I finally took a breather and sat down to listen to this alongside the new release, and I gotta say, they sound pretty solid 👍 they’ve definitely gone for a different vibe, but it actually makes total sense...
Can you hear the rhythm? That’s Bill Rieflin on the drums, and I just heard the news that he passed away... He was absolutely crushing it for Annihilator up there now... R. I. P.
I don't know about you guys. Honestly, I feel like I've seen way too many movies with this exact same premise, so this whole approach feels a bit redundant to me. The only thing that really sets it apart is the special effects in a few specific scenes.
I just think it would’ve worked better if they hadn't taken such a dead-serious approach to a theme we've all seen a million times before. If they had leaned into the trashy, campy side of things and just had some fun with it, I probably would've given it a passing grade...
But hey, it's totally fair if someone else actually digs it!
It’s funny how everyone was buzzing about this movie right when it dropped, but then it just kind of vanished from the conversation. I remember seeing the hype while it was playing in theaters, though I never actually made it to the cinema myself...
Honestly, maybe I’d feel differently if I’d seen it, but to me, it feels like just another one of those "multiplex movies"—you know what I mean? Those cookie-cutter, assembly-line flicks you pick up at the AMC just because you're in the mood for a specific genre and don't want to think too hard. Just total popcorn fodder...
Long story short, nothing really stuck with me. There wasn't anything memorable about it. You can totally skip this one.
Alright, anything the movie leaves out is super easy to dig up online. With psychopaths, they just don't have a conscience, so guilt isn't really a factor here...
It’s basically your classic tragic backstory—rough childhood, nobody liked him in high school, and he drifted into petty crime as he grew up. But the real kicker was his impotence. Even though he was married, he’d go out and visit prostitutes from time to time.
He actually moved out of that house after the landlord showed up to find a different couple living there! They had been paying Christie because they thought he was the owner... apparently, he was playing landlord to them.
Right after Christie cleared out, those folks found some sketchy stuff, which eventually led them to discover the bodies of his victims walled up inside. That’s when the whole thing blew up, he got arrested, and his true nature was finally exposed.
Grace Sanders24 said:It’s honestly wild to think about... they probably never would've even caught him if he hadn't been such an absolute jerk and been forced to move out of his apartment... turns out being a decent human being might actually be a survival tactic! ... 🍿
So, that one movie basically just sticks to Timothy's case—you know, starting with that first murder just to give you a real sense of who this guy actually was... but this miniseries I mentioned? It goes way deeper than that! It covers so much more ground. So, if you're actually looking to dive into the full story, you should definitely check it out... 🙂
Honestly, I’m not even sure how many serial killer movies were actually out back then—I mean, Ted Bundy and the rest of those guys came along much later, and Psycho was only partially inspired by Gein's case anyway—but looking back from where we are now, this movie really hit the mark for its era. It's a total success!
I gotta say, my take on it is pretty straightforward. The whole thing just highlights how bizarre the situation was: Timothy was just so incredibly naive and clueless, while Christie had all the classic hallmarks of a psychopath. It’s honestly no shocker that he managed to pull the wool over his eyes like that.
The biggest mystery to me, though? How sloppy the court was... they just brushed off any chance that Christie was involved way too easily.
Since I already knew the plot, the predictability didn't really bother me. Honestly, it probably wouldn't have bothered people who already know the backstory of this serial killer either. I mean, movies about these types always feel different... there's just something about how we're constantly shocked by how monstrous they can be, and these films try to shine a light on what actually went down.
The story here is especially wild because it centers on a court case that wasn't truly settled until after the sentence was carried out. It’s a massive legal blunder, which makes the whole movie feel even more surreal...
And hey, there's no reason not to believe this is exactly how it happened, since there aren't many sources out there contradicting this version of events.
As for the acting, I thought the roles were solid (Richard Attenborough and John Hurt)... the story is put together well enough to keep you hooked. It’s not exactly groundbreaking, but it’s good enough to make sure you catch all the motives and walk away with that final impression—which, in my opinion, you absolutely have to connect back to the backstory.
Oh, and one more thing! I highly recommend the mini-series. It's only three episodes... go watch it and see the difference for yourself.
No worries, I haven't really found the time myself, but I'm definitely sitting down to watch it tonight!
To be honest, I don't know a ton about this movie other than it's got great reviews. Since it's based on a true story, reading up on it actually reminded me of this killer miniseries I watched a few years back... Savoy starring Tim Roth.
It’s basically a biopic about an American serial killer active during the 40s and 50s. (He passed away in 1953.)
The director is Richard Fleischer. Man, I can't even remember everything he's done, though I do vividly remember Red Sonja with Schwarzenegger when he was just a kid. 😬 Oh, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Kirk Douglas. I've actually got a few more of his flicks on my IMDb watchlist, including Soylent Green... among others. He even won an Oscar for a documentary back in 1947.
Basically, he was the kind of director producers could always count on back in the day, having had a pretty solid career with a handful of big commercial hits under his belt.
I'll post my thoughts on the movie later once I've actually seen it!
Mark Cruz15 said:Exactly! Most music just hits way harder at a live concert than it does on a studio recording. Except for that one Nipplepeople exception everyone keeps arguing about...
I’m telling you, Vojko V sounds even worse live than when you just play him like this ☕ ... honestly!
Chris Myers said:Look, I think Foo Fighters are consistently solid. Sure, they've evolved, but honestly, sometimes I even like the new stuff better! My only gripe was when they started doing those songs for athletes—you know, all that commercial stuff, like sponsoring Budweiser... But hey, the band really grew up musically and creatively. They moved past that early punk sound and totally nailed the transition!
Well yeah, they're definitely more mainstream now. They still tackle stuff that matters socially, and while they technically sound better, I think that's mostly just because they've been touring forever. Plus, Milet's vocals just don't quite fit with something that melodic...
Noah Roberts46 said:That's every single band after I see them live.☕
I mean, if they come on shuffle, I'll listen and it's fine, but I'm not exactly hunting them down to play. Some old stuff just doesn't work for me though... like almost all glam rock, except for T. Rex.
For me, seeing a concert usually makes me want to go home and blast the album, not stop listening! Though, this whole shift in their style is actually pretty interesting...😁
It’s the exact same deal with Hladno Pivo. They totally pivoted toward that commercial sound, and it shows... Ever since the šamar era, they just don't have that punk edge anymore.
I mean, sure, they had that one killer show at KSET where they stuck strictly to the old stuff, and I’ll give them respect for that. But nowadays? It's all just mainstream radio fodder...
Back in the day, the whole Falkland situation was a huge deal for the skinhead scene, much like how everyone was totally split over Thatcher during her era. Basically, the entire punk rock subculture just exploded out of pure frustration with the government at the time, which you can really see in both the anarchists and those on the flip side...
Comov is honestly just a straight-up sociopath who flips out the second things don't go his way. He laid hands on that girl, and then once it finally clicked for him what he’d actually done, he took her and the kid to the hospital. That's when the little guy started realizing that everything he looked up to about Comov was just plain wrong.
Tossing that flag is nothing more than a symbol of rejecting that whole ideology, especially given everything that went down right before it...
I feel like I’ve officially listened to every single track by JJ Cale available on YouTube. But then, Mr. YouTube himself decided to drop this gem in my recommendations— Deodato. It is absolutely perfect for putting on in the background while I'm reading... 🙂
