So 🤣 Just like that one other singer who goes, "Today it’s totally normal
to, say, not have a name like Joe?" 😬

Total agreement here...

I don't know why, but Mirzin popped into my head the other day too... 😁 even though everyone loves to claim they were the absolute worst disco band in the States. Honestly, it's probably just that wild contrast between Mirzin's vocals and those backing singers, plus they were hitting the scene right when disco was starting to feel a bit "out"...

The worst? Whatever. They were pure trash in the best possible way, which is totally ☕

Not the movie of the week! 😁

If his ten most famous works all circle back to the exact same themes and characters, then yeah, he’s definitely going to catch some heat from the critics... it makes sense, really.

You could binge-watch his entire filmography and still walk away thinking Kurosawa just did samurai epics and historical dramas set in the old USA. But this week's pick proves he’s got way more range than that! It was honestly such a departure from what I usually expect from him... it totally shifts how I view his whole body of work.

And let's be real, criticism is just one way to look at movies—it's basically just evaluating the content. When people start throwing around terms like "elitism," they're usually talking about the perspective, like how he portrays the common folks... who always seem so helpless without those big heroes stepping in.

But honestly? I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be making and watching movies like this more often!

Dennis Martin6 said:Actually, movies like this make up barely a third of Kurosawa's entire body of work, so calling it a stereotype just doesn't hold water.

Well, if you're deep into his filmography, sure, that argument falls apart. Out of maybe thirty films, you might find ten like this. But let's be real—whenever Kurosawa pops up on a "must-watch" list, these are usually the ones mentioned first. Still, those ten are more than enough for the average viewer to get hooked...

If I were a bigger superfan, I’d probably argue otherwise, but even with the few I've managed to sit through, he hasn't quite won me over yet...

Samuel Scott54 said:That’s not quite right... back in his 40s and 50s, he actually made some non-samurai flicks, which I think I already brought up earlier in this thread.

I hear you, totally! It's just that those aren't nearly as famous as his massive epic hero movies. In fact, later critics actually called him out for that exact thing—how he always seemed obsessed with heroic figures and pushed this whole elitist vibe...

Guys, this isn't the first time you two have gone at it over the exact same topic. Just saying'... 😁 ☕

You two have such a wild chemistry when you're tearing apart movies. Just a heads-up though... let's try not to cross the line from critiquing the films to making it personal, okay?
How to recover photos from a dead laptop in IT Support ·
Rachel Brooks63 said:Seriously, don't try to DIY this if you aren't 100% sure what you're doing! Just set that broken laptop aside for now. Once things settle down and we can get back to our normal routines, grab both the old machine and the new one and head over to a local computer repair shop... there are plenty of pros out there who can swap that HDD tray for you for basically nothing.

I totally agree with that advice. The exact same thing happened to me last year, and they managed to save every single one of my files just like that! They even turned that little tray into an external hard drive for me, and it works perfectly fine today.

And honestly, it didn't cost me much at all...

Photography is easily one of the most gorgeous parts of cinema, and I totally agree—that swing scene is just stunning. But honestly? The way this movie handles its philosophy on that subject... it doesn't quite click for me like it does in other films. That’s just my take, though! It’s definitely a personal preference, and it doesn't change my respect for the movie or how much it matters.

Well, damn... looks like I'm in for a lifetime of being bored then... ☕

I’ve mentioned this before, but I honestly find my issues with Kurosawa a bit tedious... even when he’s doing those massive epics like Seven Samurai, or his later stuff like Ran and some of the others. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Rashomon! That one is just fantastic (I actually have the book at home).

Also, Ikiru reminds me a little bit of Ozu. It’s not really his usual thing to focus on the lives of ordinary people, since Kurosawa is mostly famous for those epic heroes, samurai, and all that American history and stuff...

It doesn't grab me that much either, but what really keeps me hooked is the technical side: the camera work, the cinematography, the editing, how they handle interiors versus exteriors. Okay, sure, there are clear themes too: family life, showing bureaucrats through their jobs (and that general attitude toward bureaucracy), plus the personal side and, obviously—death, or rather, the meaning of life.

I think it’s a beautiful story, but it just doesn't quite hit home for me right now. Still, experience tells me I might have a totally different take on it if I catch it again sometime in the future...

The issue with this transformation is that I can still totally see Hardy... Not that I have any doubts about his acting chops, mind you! But honestly, projects like this usually end up being either pretty solid or just a step below that level.

Don't hold back on the details! I'd love to hear more about what you thought... wouldn't mind a deep dive if you're feeling it! 👍

My mistake! Everyone suddenly started asking about Signatures all at once, and I just went into autopilot mode trying to be helpful... 😁 Guess it’s probably better if I leave this stuff to the local mods instead... 😬
