Thomas Sanchez2 said:I’m running a Western Digital My Cloud EX2 Ultra server. We’ve got about ten people using it, and I’ve set up several folders with specific permissions for different users—everything works fine over ZeroTier. We all just access everything through File Explorer by mapping the specific server folders each person needs.

But now we’ve hit a snag—one of the users accidentally wiped out some really important files. I jumped straight into the server settings and noticed there's a 'Recycle Bin' option, but it wasn't enabled. I went ahead and turned it on for all the folders immediately (though, obviously, I didn't expect that to magically fix things retroactively).

Afterward, I did some digging online, and apparently, some people claim that even if you have the Recycle Bin enabled on the server, files deleted via File Explorer don't actually get sent there. I ran a few tests myself, and yeah, it’s true—deleting stuff doesn't move it to the Recycle Bin at all.

So now I'm totally stuck—does anyone actually know how to fix this?

On top of that, I stumbled upon this file recovery software:
https://www.imyfone.com/data-recover...m-wd-my-cloud/

The site explicitly says: "As WD My Cloud is remotely accessible, iMyFone D-Back Hard Drive Recovery Expert can work from any PC as well."

The problem is, I can't actually "locate" or see that mapped folder in File Explorer when I try to use the software.

Is restoring from a backup the only way out?

Paul Rogers94 said:I'm running a basic internet setup with a Technicolor router, and back when I actually had the password, any device with Wi-Fi could just hop on—like my phone, for instance—but my desktop is stuck because it doesn't have a built-in Wi-Fi card.

I actually tried following your suggestion by typing that address into my browser, but I hit a total dead end; it just kept spitting out "This site can’t be reached" instead of letting me into the admin dashboard.

So, here's the mess: I've got three different phones still connected to the router from before, but my laptop is basically a paperweight right now because I lost the password and can't get it online.

Just log into the router using one of your phones and you should be able to see or reset the Wi-Fi password from there.
Scanner help needed in IT Support ·
Jesse Morris3 said:I could use some help here. I have an old Epson Perfection V300 scanner that I need to use, but Windows 10 isn't recognizing it. I can't seem to find any drivers for it. Is there any way I can still get this scanner up and running?

Honestly, just grab VueScan; it'll make that scanner work perfectly fine on Windows 10.

Best way to send a 1.5 GB video to a friend? in IT Support ·
Nancy Thompson8 said:A buddy of mine works as a merchant mariner and he’s currently out in Asia
I’ve been trying to get a 1.5 GB video over to him, but I tried using some of those free web hosting sites and it turns out the crew on his ship won't let him access those kinds of portals at all. Does anyone know if there's a workaround to get this to him? Maybe via email using some kind of specialized software that handles huge file transfers, or honestly, just anything else that might work

Laptop USB port replacement/repair help in IT Support ·
fadedbear92 said:Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some advice or maybe a solid recommendation. Basically, the USB port on my laptop is getting super loose, so when I plug in my mouse, the connector just wobbles around like it's dancing, and I keep losing the connection constantly.

Do you guys think the only way out of this mess is to have the actual USB port replaced on the motherboard, and if so, what kind of damage am I looking at financially? Also, does anyone know a reliable repair shop in the West Coast area they could point me toward?

Thanks a bunch!🙂

Check with a local repair shop in a Small town in the US Midwest.

Try switching things up by using the SSL/TLS port 465, or just go old school and try port 25 without any security protocols at all.

Just make sure you're plugging in the exact SMTP username and password provided by Xfinity.

Sarah Adams48 said:How am I supposed to get this massive mountain of data over to them? Is there some kind of digital dropbox where they can just grab everything without me clogging up their inbox with a million emails?

Just toss all those files into a single Zip folder and shoot them over using something like WeTransfer or a big file transfer service.
Sam Wright21 said:My bad, the laptop is a Dell Inspiron. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. The TV is a Samsung LED model, and I'm using an HDMI cable. Everything was working perfectly fine until it just decided to quit on me out of nowhere—now, whenever I hook the laptop up via HDMI, the laptop loses all video and audio, and the TV just sits there staring at me with a "No Signal" message on HDMI ports 1, 2, and 3.

Since it works fine over at my buddy's place, I'm leaning towards the TV being the culprit here.

Have you tried swapping out the cable for a different one yet?

wiredtinker11 said:I’m already losing my mind here. At first, I thought the firewall was acting up, but nope—that wasn't it. It worked fine yesterday, then suddenly stopped today. I’ve reinstalled the drivers more times than I care to admit. I even went into Device Manager to disable the wireless USB adapter just to toggle it back on; it gave me an error, so I toggled it again, and—presto!—it suddenly started working. God knows how long this little dance is going to last.
And I’m still waiting for my internet service to actually be installed. My options are either running a 20-meter cable from the outlet to my PC or relying on a wireless connection. Based on this headache, the wireless route doesn't seem particularly reliable in my setup.
The stick is an ASUS USB-AC51, if that helps anyone.
Should I try hunting down some newer drivers? The box says it supports up to Windows 8.1, but I noticed there might be versions available for Windows 10.

Edit: It's dead again. I had turned off my phone's mobile hotspot because I'm on a limited data plan, and when I tried to reconnect, I got the exact same nonsense. It either connects without any actual internet access, or it won't connect at all. Could the issue be the stick itself?

Are you 100% sure your router is actually getting a signal from the provider? Like, make sure the connection isn't dropping on their end.

Did you mention you just moved into this place? Is it your own spot or are you renting? If you're renting, there's a chance the previous tenant or even the landlord gave the password to a neighbor, and they're hogging all your bandwidth.

Besides those two devices you mentioned, is there anything else in the house hitting the Wi-Fi?

Let's rule out the obvious stuff:
Kill the mobile data on your phone before you try connecting with the computer.
Check if the router actually has an outbound connection.
Change your Wi-Fi password on the router.
Plug the computer directly in via Ethernet and see if the connection holds up.

No need to do them in that specific order.
WiFi password not working? in IT Support ·
Try wiping your network settings from your phone and reconnecting from scratch. Don't just blindly punch in the password when the prompt pops up.
Honestly, I’m right there with you on the fact that Google's router is absolute garbage. Especially that little white Cisco unit without any antennas; my Wi-Fi was dropping constantly, and all customer support would do was recite some scripted mantra about how they had zero grounds to swap out the hardware.
That’s exactly why I ended up ditching them for Comcast, and honestly, I haven't dealt with a single headache since.
