Phantom pregnancy: What's your experience? in Psychology ·
I’m curious about what actually goes on in a woman's mind
1) right before the meltdown starts
2) while it's happening
3) once she snaps back to reality

Also, if a doctor diagnoses a woman with pregnancy based solely on symptoms—without running any actual tests—and she just accepts it even though there's no baby, does that count as a psychosomatic pregnancy?

And another thing: if someone starts feeling "pregnant" just a few hours after unprotected sex, is she being hysterical? I mean, physically speaking, you can't have symptoms that early, regardless of whether conception happened or not, because it’s biologically impossible to feel those symptoms that soon

What kind of psychological factors drive this kind of mental state?

Most often, the culprits are diet and psychological stress. It’s incredibly common—affecting roughly 60% of women out there.

That first sentence was pretty much all you needed to say. Thanks for the heads-up.

I’m with you on that. There’s actually this concept called "genetic attraction." It’s that weird pull you feel when you run into a long-lost relative. It even applies to parent-child dynamics.

The thing is, you don't perceive them as a relative; you see them as a potential partner, and the attraction is amplified because your genetic material is so compatible.

It works the exact opposite way with childhood friends. If you've known someone since you were kids, you end up seeing them more like a brother or sister. Even if you can clearly tell the difference between an actual blood relative and a friend, that feeling remains. And that goes for real siblings, too.

For example, my brother listed one of his first-grade buddies as a sibling on Facebook. Since I grew up with my twin brother and we spent every single summer vacation together until we were eleven, the idea of anything romantic happening between us is just revolting.

I get dysmenorrhea pretty regularly, and it always ends with the exact same bout of diarrhea. Is there any actual reason to suspect they're linked? Like, is it even possible for my period cramps to be caused by gut issues?
