I am searching for some dynamic emoticons that I might be able to insert directly into Word.

I am envisioning expressive graphics—perhaps someone banging their head against a wall, sticking their tongue out, or eating everything in sight. It would be ideal if these weren't just tiny icons, but rather something substantial that I could scale up to a larger size.

Is such a task actually possible within Word 2003?

What kind of file format would these emoticons even be? They’re usually just GIFs, but Word won't actually play the animation—it basically just sits there. Honestly, a .doc file doesn't really support animations at all unless you save everything as an .html document instead.

PDF doesn't actually support GIFs—it's just not built that way—so you’re going to have to convert it into a Flash video or some other compatible format if you want any movement at all.

Yeah, PowerPoint supports GIFs—you just insert them as a picture object.

Anyone selling Microsoft Office on a disc? Doesn't need to be official, just something cheap for home use. I'd prefer Microsoft Office Professional 2013., but apparently you can only download that directly from the official site now, so I'm stuck with the 2010 version since that's the last one available on CD.

The links I find online either don't work, throw errors, or if they actually do run, they try to bundle weight loss ads and junk search tools I don't want... plus, I usually end up catching a virus. And the installation takes forever.

So, I'm looking for a decent deal on a physical CD.

I have decided to abandon the idea of using GIFs altogether. I attempted to sketch out a simple little comic strip for him, but since my eyesight is quite poor and his requirements were incredibly specific, I simply couldn't meet his standards even when working under heavy magnification. He will just have to create it himself whenever he is able.

My job provides me with a licensed version of Microsoft Office 2010, but I've actually been doing most of my work in LibreOffice since back when I was still using the 2003 version, even after docx and xlsx became the standard. And personally? I find those ribbons just as "charming" as anyone else. 🙂 I wouldn't go out and buy Microsoft Office, and I certainly wouldn't install it illegally when there are perfectly good free options available. ☕

I was messing around in Excel last night, adding all sorts of comments to cells and stuff.
Then, out of nowhere, my mouse just stops working right!
Every single time I click, it selects this huge chunk of the screen instead. It’s like everything gets highlighted.
I tried closing the file and reopening it, but nope—same exact thing. Even when I’m just looking at my desktop, clicking one icon suddenly grabs a bunch of them at once!
If I double-click one thing, it opens a whole mess of windows.

I probably fat-fingered some setting while I was doing copy-paste.

Can anyone help me out here?

Is your Shift key stuck?
You’ve got both left and right Shift keys—maybe check if one of them is jammed or acting up.

Ugh, never mind my little meltdown. When I jumped back on this morning, everything was working perfectly!!!! Awesome!!!! Honestly, I don't even care what happened, as long as it works!🙏😁

I've run into a bit of a headache in Excel.

So, I have 6 numbers spread out across the first two rows (you can see this in the first screenshot). In cell F10, I’m using a "COUNTIF" formula to count how many ones are in that specific range...



Here's where it gets annoying: after setting it up, I insert a new row above the first one containing three more ones. However, the formula in cell F10—which has now shifted down to F11—isn't updating the total correctly. It should be showing 5 instead of just staying at 2. ???

It looks like using the $ sign isn't actually solving the problem (as you can see in the second image), because even though I used absolute references like $A$1:$C$5, the range automatically shifted to $A$2:$C$6 once I added the row.

I have to admit, I’m not quite sure what you’re struggling with here—especially since you actually answered your own question 🤷

So, basically, you just need to update the formula in F11 to $A$1:$C$6;1 so it includes that extra row you added

And, I guess, why are you using absolute references in this instance? The correct formula for the first image would be A1:C2;1, and for the second one, once you've added another row, it should be A1:C3;1

Try this based on your first screenshot:

Put this formula in cell F10: =COUNTIF(INDIRECT(G10):C2;1)
In cell G10, just type: A1

Now, whenever you drop in a new row, the formula will always count starting from cell A1.
