Michael Scott38 said:Anyone know if Word 2007 has some kind of pop-up feature? Like, when you highlight text, a little note box appears right there with info.

Try the mouseover trick using bookmarks and hyperlinks to trigger a tooltip if you can live with a 255-character limit.

Does anyone actually remember how to do that "tips & tricks" thing where you stick a $ sign in front of a letter in a formula?

It’s just totally slipped my mind.
If someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll probably figure it out eventually—I have to!

At the 11-minute mark.

Come on, Benjamin Wilson7, you actually caught me off guard there. You spent like two whole hours hunting for this (judging by how long it took you to post).
Just throw the term into Google. That's all you need to do. Absolute cell references in Excel. Use the dollar signs. Check the first link. Solution's right there. 😉

Hey.

Maybe you didn't quite catch my drift.
So, here's the deal: I'm copying a formula with relative references twenty rows to the right, and if I use absolute references, I have to manually rename all those columns.
When I've got something like 30 different formulas using relative addresses, I was looking for a way to flip them all to absolute without typing out every single $ sign by hand. I know there's that F4 shortcut, but I think there might be another way? I can't recall.

Wait, did you seriously think I didn't know how to add a $ to a single formula? 🙂.

edit: Okay, you totally understood me—I see it on your end now F4.
And there I was, searching on Google in English, haha. Honestly, I needed this so badly at work today. I wasted a whole hour just typing everything out manually like a total amateur. It was a nightmare.

I think I need to run a bit of a join in Excel

Like this:

Frank Reyes 1 2 3
Bla 123
something 1 4 6

Frank Reyes 4 5 6
Bla 2 5

What I'm looking for is something like this
Frank Reyes 1 2 3 4 5 6
Bla 123 2 5

Is there some kind of function that can handle that?

Check out this http://www.techonthenet.com/excel/formulas/concat.php.

Pair it with an IF function and it basically works like a SQL JOIN command... ☕

For example:

User A 1 2 3
User B 123
User C 1 4 6

User A 4 5 6
User B 2 5

The desired result would be:
User A 1 2 3 4 5 6
User B 123 2 5

Is there a specific function that handles this?

You should check this out here.

I think I might be asking this in the right place, but I was wondering how I could go about changing my document type to either a .txt or a .pdf file. It seems like those are the only formats supported on one of the pages, and I’m just trying to upload my Microsoft Office .doc files
It's for my cover letter and resume

Just head over to Google and search for "xls to pdf" or maybe "xls to txt," depending on what you're after. From there, you can just pick between using an online converter or downloading a dedicated program to handle the conversion for you.

Frankenstein!
My apologies! What I actually meant to say was:

Just search Google for "doc to pdf" or "doc to txt"—you can either go the online route or just download a conversion program, whichever suits your workflow better.

Check out Save As Rich text format in Word. If you're working on a resume, you can get pretty creative using your own template or a pre-made one in Word. Plus, in Word 2007, you've got the option to save as a PDF.
And yeah, like the other guy mentioned, there are plenty of online converters like doc2pdf

Just save it as a .txt file so you can open Notepad and grab everything. You'll lose all your formatting—fonts and all that nonsense—but if you want fast and easy, that's your best bet. Which website are we even talking about here?

So, whenever I try to set up heading levels in Word to generate an automatic >, the software keeps overriding my formatting. Every time I apply a heading level, it automatically changes the text color, the font size, and even messes with the line spacing between that heading and the paragraph below it.

Is there a way to get those automatic headings working without having the color, font, and spacing change on me every single time?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here. 🙂

I’ve no idea which version of Word you're running, but why make it harder than it needs to be? Just head over to References > Table of Contents > Custom Table > Modify and then tweak the settings for TOC 1, 2, and 3...

I'm using Word 2007. Every time I assign a heading level (using References > Table of Contents > Add Text > Level 1, 2, or 3), the text itself automatically turns light blue, the font changes, and the spacing between the heading and the body text shifts too.

Just tweak the styles to your liking. Check out this or this tutorial—might solve your headache.

Alright, I decided to finally upgrade from Office 2007 to Office 2010. Since I was sitting on a measly 500 MB of free space, I ran CCleaner first—which bumped me up to a decent 2.05 GB. The installation itself went smoothly enough, but once I fired up Outlook, I hit this wall:

"A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider".

I just click YES to proceed with the server and my account opens fine—but I’m not interested in a workaround; I want to stop this irritating pop-up entirely by getting the right certificate installed.

The software is legitimate and fully registered, and I'm running Windows XP.

Maybe give those root certificates an update—try this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=41084

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown on what I actually need to look out for when it comes to licensing Office 2010 for a small business. I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle the purchase—like, how do prices usually shake out, where's the safest place to buy it (should I be looking at eBay?), and do we really need to keep physical stickers or COAs on hand for any potential audits? There are just so many little details to consider...

I did try digging through this thread to see if someone had already covered this, but I haven't quite found the specific answers I'm hunting for. It’s becoming a bit of a situation because my boss is really breathing down my neck to get this sorted out immediately, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
