I would be incredibly grateful if someone could help me make sense of what’s happening here.

Here's the situation: every time I boot up my laptop, I'm slapped with this red screen offering a few different options, like Windows without loader, GRUB, and a couple of other things. This all started after I accidentally slammed the lid shut while a torrent was running and some software was mid-installation. Now, I can't get into Safe Mode or anywhere else—the BIOS is the only thing that responds. To make matters worse, I have my senior thesis and several other critical documents sitting on that drive. Is there any way out of this? I am willing to lose every single byte of data on that machine if it means I can just get it back to a functional state.

Honestly, I don't think you even need to go through the hassle of a full reinstall.
First things first, can you tell me exactly what error message you're seeing right at the start? Like, what are all the specific options popping up on your screen?

Have you given the Windows without loader option a shot yet? Seriously, just try that one and see what happens.
Is there an option for with loader available?

If none of those work, your best bet would be to burn the exact same version of Windows onto a DVD—assuming you have one handy—and then just boot from that disc and hit > repair.

You mentioned you can't even get into the BIOS, right? That sounds to me like your laptop might have just gone into a sort of deep sleep instead of doing a full, proper shutdown. If it didn't actually power down completely, it's basically trying to pick up right where it left off, which totally skips that initial boot sequence where you'd normally tap DEL or F2 to jump into the BIOS settings.

Once you give me a bit more detail on what's going on, we'll definitely figure this out together.

So, here's the deal—every time I boot up my laptop, I'm hit with this red screen offering a few different paths: 1. Windows without loader, GRUB, and a couple of other options. This all started after I accidentally slammed the lid shut while a torrent was running and some program was mid-install. The real kicker is that I can't get into Safe Mode or anything else—I'm stuck in the BIOS. I've still got my senior thesis and several other important documents sitting on there. Is there any way out of this? Honestly, I wouldn't mind wiping the whole drive if it meant I could actually use the machine again normally.

Just follow the steps outlined in the second post: http://windowsforum.com/threads/how-...g-linux.34709/

I have to ask—which "tech genius" installed Windows on your machine without actually removing the Linux setup that was already on there? 🤦

So, what kind of "expert" installed Windows on your laptop without actually wiping the Linux partition that was already sitting there? 🤦

Well, if that's the case, we definitely have an issue on our hands.

I didn't even bother following those specific instructions. I just booted from a Windows CD and ran the repair option. Done. Simple as that. I didn't lose a single byte of data, and everything is back exactly how it was before. Still, it's worth mentioning regardless.

So, I’ve been messing around with Serif draw plus x5 lately—and look, I know this is totally off-topic, but I didn't want to clutter up the board with a whole new thread knowing damn well nobody would have an answer anyway...
The headache is what happens when I try to save my work as a JPEG. Usually, a little dialog box pops up so I can tweak the pixel count and all those other tiny details, but instead, the whole program just crashes right in my face.
It used to happen once in a blue moon, I guess, but now? It’s happening every single time I try.
I keep getting hit with this error message, kind of like what you see in the picture here

Does anyone actually know how to fix this? I already tried a full reinstall, but that didn't do squat.

He’d be better off looking for some help over on the developer forums.

The whole mess was basically my own fault—I went overboard with the pixel count right at the start because I completely missed the second unit of measurement... yeah, total rookie mistake. So when I tried to export the thing as a JPEG, the software just choked and crashed because the file was way too massive to process. Anyway, I ended up just redoing everything from scratch using standard pixel dimensions, and now it’s running smoothly without any more headaches.
Thanks for the help,

I currently have the system files for two different versions of Windows sitting right there on my C: drive—one labeled Windows.old and the other just Windows—as you can see in the attached screenshot. The issue is that the current installation (the "Windows" folder) was set up later, and since it's the active OS, the computer boots straight into it without even giving me a choice at startup. I actually want to get back into that first installation (the Windows.old directory) instead. Is there a way to either boot into that old version or perhaps just clear out this current one so I can access the original data? Any advice on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.

I know this sounds pretty amateurish, but... could someone please explain how I can lock a specific folder (or just an entire USB drive)

I've got this tiny little program that just refuses to run because it's crying about a missing mfc100ud.dll file...
I managed to track down the DLL itself, but now I'm stuck—where am I actually supposed to drop this thing?

Windows 7 Loader,Activator v2.0.6
Does anyone actually know what this is for? I just finished reinstalling Windows 7 a few days ago. Look, I’m no IT expert, so I need some straight answers to get through this without a massive headache. Here’s the problem: my graphics card isn't being detected at all. My resolution is stuck at the absolute lowest setting. It keeps trying to download every driver under the sun, but I might be screwing something up on my end.

It looks like you forgot to install your graphics card drivers.

This second one (Windows) was installed later, and it's what I'm using right now. It just boots straight into this version without asking which one I want to load. But I actually want to go back to the first one (Windows.old). I want to either get rid of this current setup or at least be able to boot into that old Windows.old folder. How do I do that??

You can't "go back" like that—Windows.old isn't a functional OS installation, it's basically just a graveyard of data. You can dive into the Users folder inside that old directory and grab whatever files you saved there as a backup from your previous install, but that's about it.

It's pretty likely you just haven't installed the specific driver for your graphics card yet.

The Loader is used for cracking Windows, since you can't use them legally without a product key. Just a heads-up, though—don't go asking questions about that kind of stuff on this forum, because piracy is strictly against the rules here.

If you want your stuff back, your only move is to go into the Users folder within that directory and manually copy over your files. Think of it as a manual backup from your previous setup. That's it.

You probably didn't even bother to install the graphics card drivers.

The loader is designed to crack Windows because you can't exactly run them legally without a valid product key. Just don't go asking questions about this on this forum. Piracy is strictly prohibited here.

This is absolutely unbelievable. I’ve installed every single piece of software available for this graphics card. I even went as far as running a dedicated driver scanner to hunt down that specific driver, and still—nothing. Does installing this driver require me to completely wreck my system first? I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 15R, so if anyone actually has the answer to this, please step up. I need help.🙂

Maybe try just nuking everything you’ve installed related to the GPU. Then, head straight to the manufacturer's site, hunt down the specific driver, and install that instead.

Which specific 15R model are we talking about here? There are at least four or five different versions out there—it matters. Drop a screenshot from your Device Manager (you know, My Computer -> Properties) so we can actually see if your drivers are acting up. Also, what resolution did you set your monitor to?

If you're rocking a Dell, just head over to their site and grab the .CAB file specifically for your model. It’s got all the drivers you'll need bundled up in one spot.
