I’m running into a massive headache trying to install Windows, so I’d really appreciate some help here. Here’s the deal: I’m trying to reinstall the OS on my parents' computer. I brought over a Windows 7 DVD—the same one I used to set up my own laptop recently. The computer definitely recognizes the disc, but when it tries to boot, it just sits there. You can hear the CD-ROM spinning like it’s doing something, but then after about 20 seconds, the whole thing just restarts and nothing happens. I have no clue why it won't take. Honestly, I was getting so frustrated I almost punched the damn thing!

Did you set the BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD drive first?

Yeah, I already did that. Every time I pop in a disc and restart, I get that "press any key to boot from CD" prompt. Usually, I just hit a button and it works perfectly, but this time? Nothing. It just spins the disc for a bit and then boots straight into the OS like nothing happened.🤷

Maybe the DVD drive is just acting up...

Try using a fresh disc and see if you can get it to boot on a different computer, just to rule out a bad medium.

I was thinking the exact same thing! I tried a bunch of different DVDs and none of them would play. Honestly, I have no clue what the deal is. I'm going to try running it via USB instead.

God, I swear, this damn Windows 7 can be so flaky... sometimes after you delete a file from a folder, it just automatically refreshes the rest of the contents so the file disappears properly, but other times? Other times it just sits there, leaving the ghost of the deleted file right in the list until you manually hit refresh. 🙄 It’s like the OS just decides how much effort it feels like putting in after a reboot... 😁

Can anyone point me in the right direction for downloading my graphics drivers? I'm running a Toshiba Satellite C50-A-1JT with Windows 7 ultimate, and I've tried installing a few games to pass the time, but they won't launch because of an outdated graphics driver. I already tried running updates through the Device Manager, but nothing new seems to be coming through.

According to Toshiba's website, that laptop is running an Intel HD graphics chip integrated into the processor. It’s not exactly a powerhouse when it comes to gaming—so don't expect miracles there—but you didn't mention what specific error you're seeing, did you? Which games are you trying to run, and what exactly does the error message say?

You might want to try installing the latest DirectX 9 end-user runtime pack.
Just go ahead and install the latest Intel HD graphics driver. You can just Google it or head straight to the official Intel site.
It should work. Unless you're trying to run Crysis 3 or something.

Anyone have any clue why my laptop won't connect to the internet after I reinstalled Windows? I finished the OS install, plugged in an Ethernet cable, and hooked it straight into the router, but I'm getting absolutely nothing. Usually, I have to manually connect, but this is just dead air. I already tried restarting both the modem and the router, but still no luck.🤷

When you say you "reinstalled the system," do you really think that's all there is to it? You also have to make sure you install the LAN driver for your laptop 🙂

Larry Ortiz5 said:According to the Toshiba website, that laptop uses Intel integrated graphics on the processor. That basically means it isn't particularly powerful when it comes to gaming, but you didn't specify what error message you're actually seeing or which specific games you tried installing on the laptop.

For instance, when I try to launch basic games like Solitaire, I get this message:
"Hardware acceleration is disabled or not supported by your graphics card driver, which could slow down game performance. Please check if the latest graphics card driver is installed and if hardware acceleration is enabled." And once I click through that message and enter Solitaire, everything feels incredibly sluggish.

I also installed GTA: San Andreas and FIFA 14... and when I try to start FIFA, this warning pops up and prevents me from even entering the game.
"Warning:
Your computer does not meet The minimum system Requirements to run this software. As a result, you may expirience errors during operation. Your Video Card does not meet the required specifications.(GPU:Shader 3.0)"

I am going to try downloading DirectX 9.0 like saiyadjin suggested, though I feel like I might have already downloaded it back when I was setting up Call of Duty, so we will see how that goes.

Once you've finished reinstalling Windows, you'll need to make sure you install the LAN driver as well...

I totally get it! I had to do the exact same thing. Last time I wiped my drive and did a clean install, the second I plugged in the ethernet cable, I was online instantly. It actually caught me off guard for a second!🤷

Hello everyone!

I was hoping I could get some advice from you all.

I guess I'm wondering how much you would be willing to pay to have a computer completely wiped and just have Windows 7 reinstalled?

$17.
Honestly, you can totally just do that yourself...

Does anyone know how to tweak my laptop settings so it stops saving my browsing history? I'm running Windows 7.

The usual tricks with CP don't seem to work either—even when I try to clear things out through History (using Ctrl + h).

Thanks!

Kvešćn:

I’m currently running Windows 7 32-bit, even though my laptop actually has 4 GB of RAM—which means I could easily handle a 64-bit version if I wanted to. The only reason I didn't jump on that sooner was because I was using an original copy of Windows, and honestly, I just didn't feel like dealing with the headache of trying to use a cracked version... but now that we've got that sorted out, I have a new question. Is it actually possible to perform an upgrade from Windows 7 32-bit directly to Windows 8.1 64-bit, assuming my hardware can handle the load?
