You might end up having to go in and kill off Aero, shut down a million background services, and strip away every single little graphical effect just to turn Windows 7 back into something that looks like a classic OS.

I mean, seriously, what's even the point of doing all that work?...........😒

So, I had an original version of Windows 7 on my laptop, but because I wasn't thinking clearly, I decided to try and reinstall the OS myself. I ended up downloading a clean version from somewhere online, but the CD key didn't match up. Windows 7 threw some error codes at me, so I called the automated activation line, typed in the numbers they gave me, and hey—it actually worked. But there’s a catch: it keeps throwing errors constantly. It’s one of those "it works, but it doesn't work" situations, and I'm dealing with one specific error that is driving me absolutely insane. I can't seem to fix it no matter what I try. Before this started, I was getting a DLL error, so I grabbed some files from the internet and dropped them into system32, but then this current issue popped up and nothing—not even any patches or updates—seems to help. Am I just looking at a total reinstall of a pirated version of Windows 7 at this point?

Check out this video—maybe it’ll clear things up for you.

To be honest, there isn't really such a thing as a "pirated" version of Windows itself. What actually happens is that some people—especially on those torrent sites—strip out certain programs or bundle extra stuff into the installer. They create these modified versions of Windows with all sorts of custom themes or pre-installed updates up to a certain date, which, if you ask me, is just a headache waiting to happen. It's much better to find a clean, original setup rather than dealing with the nonsense I mentioned above. At the end of the day, what really matters is having a valid product key; you can usually pick one up at a local retailer for about $100.😁

Here’s a site where you can grab an original Windows 7 setup. It has all the different versions available, and it's completely legitimate and free to download.

I'm pretty sure that's where I downloaded mine from, though I might have messed up by downloading the SP1 version when I didn't actually have SP1 installed yet. I'll give this a shot and let you know how it goes.😉 Do you think that "Repair Windows" option might actually help?

Maybe give your Windows a quick repair attempt—but if that doesn't do the trick, you might be looking at an issue with one of those programs you installed recently...

None of those suggestions really did the trick. I tried running a Windows repair, but as soon as it started downloading something and attempting to load, it just kicked me right back to that same error—something like 0E000000. At this point, I think my best bet is to just download a fresh version of Windows and try from there.

Messing around with DLL files in system32 is a massive mistake. Usually, any program that needs specific DLLs—like VC Redist or DirectX, for instance—will just install everything it needs during its own setup process. If you’re missing something specific, like .NET 4 or something similar, you should just install that component on its own. Even if you still run into a missing DLL error after that, if you end up downloading a file from the web, you should ALWAYS put it directly into the application's folder. On Windows, EXEs look in their own local folder first before they ever check system32. Messing with system32 just isn't a smart way to work.

@Roger Gray8/">@@Roger Gray8 - What do you mean, "what's the point?" If someone wants to run a 7mic, they'll figure out how to make it work. 😛

Hey,

Got a bit of a headache here, so I’m posting this to see if anyone has a clue how to fix it... 🙂

So, it's an old rig—here's the Everest report https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfvphnr5v2...83%29.htm?dl=0

The issue is pretty simple: no sound.
It used to run Windows XP, and everything worked fine back then, but since I picked this machine up from someone, I wanted a fresh start and decided to wipe it and install Windows 7.

Ever since that, the audio is completely dead. I've been hunting through the web for drivers, found a few possibilities, but every time I try to install them, I just get a blue screen... nothing works.

Device Manager is showing a yellow exclamation mark.

What's the move? Should I just grab a new sound card or go back to Windows XP? 🤔

Your motherboard is an ASUS P5PE-VM, and unfortunately, there aren't any drivers available for Windows 7—the support really cuts off at Windows Vista. You could try downloading the Vista ones and seeing if they actually work during installation, though I wouldn't hold my breath...

On top of that, you're running a pretty old processor—an Intel Pentium 4 with just a single core. To keep Windows 7 from crawling, you’d likely have to disable Aero and several other features, which would leave you with a "dated" version of the OS—not exactly ideal, right? Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I’d just wipe the drive, do a fresh install of Windows XP, grab the necessary drivers, and call it a day...

Greetings!
In your opinion, is this item here ---> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-Wi...item1e9512b905 a "genuine" version of Windows 7? If I decide to purchase it, will I actually receive the real, original Windows 7? I am concerned about whether I might be getting scammed if I buy this specific Windows 7 on eBay.

You can easily grab a Windows 7 installation—it’s actually pretty simple to find the original, legitimate setup files for free without any hassle...

For instance, check out this site:

The most important thing is having a valid product key; if it hasn't been used before, you should be able to activate Windows just fine. As for your question about using eBay to find one? I'm honestly not sure how that works or if it's a good idea...

The product key is what matters. If it’s valid and hasn't been used before, you'll be able to activate Windows without any issues. As for your question about eBay, I wouldn't know how to answer that...

So, where can I actually buy a product key?

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32Bit/64Bit COA with Activation Key

So, that eBay link you shared—you'd basically be getting the Windows software along with the product key... But honestly? I'm just not sure how reliable it actually is. Who knows if the key has been used before or what else might be up with it? You might run into some annoying activation issues, or then again, it might work perfectly fine without any hiccups at all. It really just comes down to whether you want to take that chance or not 🙂

So, that eBay link you sent over includes both the software and the product key. I have to be honest though—I really can't vouch for how secure that is. There is always a chance the key has been used before or might run into activation errors. On the flip side, it could work perfectly fine without any hiccups at all. It is entirely your call whether you want to take that risk or not.🙂

True, but if I go ahead and download the version you recommended, where am I supposed to buy a legitimate key in that scenario?

Hmm.. for instance, this...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/software-listing-example

So, you just head over to my link, find whichever version of Windows you're looking for, and then give that seller a call to see how they want to handle things—it’ll probably be a direct transfer to their account, and then they'll shoot you the product key via SMS or email. Just make sure you tell them exactly which Windows version you need the key for, okay?

Larry Ortiz5, thanks so much for the reply 🙂
So I tried reinstalling XP today. Made a bootable USB and everything seemed fine until it hit me with: NTLDR is missing ☕
The installation won't even start... how do I get this USB to actually run the installer properly? I looked up the error on Google, but I really don't feel like reading through pages of stuff... 😵
Can you explain what to do? I can't run the install from a CD because I pulled the drive out... I've got a hole where it used to be 🕺

What kind of software were you using to move those Windows files over to the USB drive?

this ISO to USB tool... it told me the bootable USB was made successfully... 🤔
tried running the installation on the machine I actually need to set up Windows on, then tried it on another PC too, but nothing... neither one worked...

I’ve been using this little utility for a while now and honestly, I've never run into a single issue... You might want to check out the video tutorial first—if you just follow along and set everything up exactly like they show in the clip, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. But before you do anything else, make sure you grab the Rufus portable version

HERE

Once you've got the program downloaded, just follow the steps laid out HERE

hm.. yeah. I did. followed everything you wrote. and the copying part finished successfully.
but the installation just wouldn't start.. I set everything up right in the boot manager 🤔

this is what's on my USB drive:
