You can grab it directly from the Microsoft servers right here.

I’m just a little confused about what you were trying to remove from the ISO file... you don't really "remove" things from an ISO.

The only thing I don't follow is what you think you're "removing" from an ISO file; you don't exactly strip components out of an ISO image like that.

Yeah, thanks 🙂 I was trying to modify the ISO so the system would actually recognize it, since you usually need something like Daemon Tools to mount an ISO, right? And I don't even have Windows on this machine at the moment.

Download the ISO file from the link provided by Drew Allen77 above.
Grab the software called WinISO as well; use it to burn those Windows images you just downloaded—I'd suggest using 4X speed.
Set your BIOS to boot from the CD drive first and that should be it... I assume you know the rest.

So, what exactly are you working with right now?

The ISO format exists for a reason. Honestly, if you don't know what an ISO is or how it actually functions, it might be best to stop messing around with it.

An ISO file is a complete image of an optical disc (like a CD or DVD), allowing you to use the contents without needing the physical media. If your goal is to burn it back onto a disc, you really need to burn the entire ISO file. The data on a disc isn't just the files you see when you open it in a file explorer. By extracting only the individual files and burning those instead, you’re leaving out the "invisible" data. Specifically, you're likely missing the boot sector of the installation package. That part exists for one single purpose: to allow your BIOS to recognize that a disc has been inserted and then trigger the installation process.

Every decent disc-burning program has an option to burn an ISO file directly. You should have used that method, and everything would have worked fine. Now you know for next time. It's highly probable that all the installers you've used up until now were perfectly fine, but you broke them by failing to include the bootable component.

edit. I was trying to reply to martinmg42, but this forum is being incredibly slow. 😉

...you missed the "invisible" part of the data during the burn...

Precisely.
In practice, you can run a DVD like that fine within Windows, but if you try to boot from it, it simply won't work...

Go ahead and download the software under the name... WinISOI’d suggest using that tool to burn the Windows image you just downloaded; personally, I’d set the write speed to 4X to ensure everything stays stable.
Just configure your BIOS to prioritize the CD drive as the primary boot device, and you should be all set. I assume you can handle the rest of the process from there.

I am struggling to make sense of this WinISO software; I simply cannot grasp how to actually burn an image with it. Up until now, I have been burning files without needing specialized programs, as I would just download the ISO files directly. I tried burning the extracted files, but they failed to work, and even after attempting to burn the ISO itself—while making sure to set the DVD drive as the primary target—it still wouldn't boot. To be clear, I was attempting to burn the data directly to the DVD via File Explorer rather than using the software. The machine in question currently lacks any operating system whatsoever because I have already wiped all the partitions clean.

It seems pretty straightforward, really. I assume you've already downloaded the Windows ISO file, right? If that's the case, and you aren't quite sure how to burn an ISO using the software the other guy linked, you could just use Imgburn instead. http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Once you have the program installed, I suppose you could follow this video for guidance... the most important part is making sure you select write image file to disc.

https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...ow+to+burn+iso

That should allow you to burn the ISO file. Like the others were saying, I guess you shouldn't mess around with the actual ISO file itself; if you try to tinker with it or extract files from inside, the DVD probably won't be bootable, which would just be a huge headache.

Just use Rufus to install it via a USB drive.

I guess I don't really see the point in teasing him if he doesn't even know how to burn a basic ISO file, let alone use something like Rufus.

Yeah, it's pretty tough to get it done in just three clicks using Rufus. 🤦

Using Rufus is honestly just three clicks—nothing to be intimidated by. If you’re looking to burn it to a DVD instead, that works too, just make sure you don't try to reuse the same disc once the image is burned. You can also just burn an ISO directly from File Explorer and it should work fine...

unmountable boot volume

https://neosmart.net/wiki/unmountable-boot-volume/

The issue here is that I'm dealing with a laptop, and if the drive has actually kicked the bucket... well, that's a different story. Mostly, I'm wondering if anyone here has actually messed around with this specific rescue CD and what your experience was like. Is there any way to make something useful happen using just a standard Windows 7 DVD? Reinstalling Windows is my absolute last resort—really, truly the final option—because I want to exhaust every single possible tool in the shed first. If anyone has successfully navigated this before, please hit me up with some details.

So, what are you actually trying to pull off with that hard drive? If I were in your shoes, my best advice would be to grab a Linux Mint live USB—just burn it to a flash drive or a disc—and boot from that. Once you're up and running, you can try pulling your files onto a thumb drive or an external hard drive. After you've secured everything, just wipe the drive clean and do a fresh install of Windows. I don't know if that helps you out much, but it's what I'd do. 🤷

Hey there.
I apologize for posting here instead of starting a new thread...
Basically, I was using Movie Maker 2012 and everything was running perfectly until I reinstalled Windows 7. Now, the program is incredibly slow, and whenever I try to save a video, it just stops responding.
Does anyone know if there's a free online converter that can turn .mwlp files into .mov? I'm looking for something easy—no registrations, no subscriptions, nothing like that. I haven't been able to find anything reliable; every site says it's converting the file, but then nothing happens. I'm getting pretty frustrated because this project is really important to me. If anyone has any advice, I'd truly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey everyone...

I've run into a bit of a mess here, and I can't seem to shake it. Here’s the deal: I have this old laptop running a dual boot setup with Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. I thought I just closed the lid, but apparently, it went into hibernation or something similar—I didn't realize, and since the battery is shot, the thing just died completely when I had to move it... totally unexpected.

When I finally got it powered back up, I was greeted by this screen image

The keyboard was completely unresponsive, so it just defaulted to the option to wipe everything out...

Now, the computer just keeps rebooting in a loop. It won't even let me get to the menu where I usually choose between Windows 8.1 or Windows 7...

The big issue is I absolutely cannot format these drives. I have some incredibly sensitive data on there—I work in the judicial system, so privacy isn't just a preference, it's a requirement. I tried to reinstall Windows 7 onto the same drive to see if I could fix it, but it just threw an error at me: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. see the setup log files for more information."

Is there any way out of this nightmare?

There isn't actually an image here—just a long link. Could you upload it properly so we can actually take a look?

Good grief, I am seeing this for the very first time... 😕
Have you attempted a system repair using that Windows CD you have on hand?

Yeah, I tried everything, but nothing’s working. The laptop just boots up, flashes those system details for a second, and then immediately cuts to a black screen. That’s where it should be giving me the option to pick between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, but instead, it just sits there in total darkness for maybe five or six seconds before it crashes and restarts... basically acting like I just hit the power button all over again...

I did a clean reinstall of Windows without any external media—Toshiba pre-loaded everything onto the drive. If they hadn't, I wouldn't even be able to reinstall since Bill's people don't offer an OS download. Now, Windows Update is stuck trying to process 190 installations. The OS is designed so poorly that instead of handling updates incrementally, it tries to grab everything at once—which just causes it to hang, forcing a reinstall. My computer has been spinning its wheels for 10 hours already, and there are still about 150 left. It’s incompetent that they didn't design it to push updates in batches of 20 or 50. It is truly unbelievable that this garbage has been sold for 30 years and somehow remains the most popular choice.
