You might want to reach out to that guy directly—the photo clearly shows it's just some gadget from AIDA64.

I've already posted in that thread, and I'll send him a PM as well.🙂
That said, if anyone knows of a similar gadget for monitoring CPU temperatures, I’d appreciate the lead.
Thanks again for your time, Mike.👍

I am currently running Windows 7, but I seem to have misconfigured something on my PC. Now, I am seeing old icons from previous versions of Windows, and the same thing happens in Word, where it displays an outdated version instead of the one I actually have installed 🤷. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue?

You probably forgot to format the drive.

Keith Sanchez6 said:Sometimes federal inspectors just don't know what they're doing. Honestly, your best bet is to call Microsoft directly—if an inspector tries to push back against what Microsoft tells you, you can use that as leverage. You can absolutely buy Windows without having the physical box sitting on a shelf; all you really need are the product keys and/or your licensing agreements. I’ve seen cases where inspectors didn't even understand what they were looking at. All this nonsense about needing a specific receipt is ridiculous—for instance, you could have received a computer as a gift, started your business, and put it into service, and yet your Windows keys would still match up perfectly. There shouldn't be any issues regarding licensing. It feels like these guys just make things up to justify handing out fines. Besides, who keeps the boxes? Maybe your wife stepped on it, or maybe she tossed it in the trash after you had a disagreement. Does that suddenly make you unlicensed?
Well, those bureaucrats from the regulatory agencies told us the exact same thing. Before we even went through the process of incorporating our business, we did our homework to see how everything worked. We actually wanted to use our home computers for the office, but they wouldn't allow it—they insisted we needed a paper trail for every single PC, blah, blah, blah... So, my partner and I were essentially forced to go out and buy two separate machines—one laptop for field work and one desktop for the office...
And as for Windows, that's what they told us too...
Man, it's clear that not many people actually understand the nuances of these laws...

Before we even went through the process of incorporating our business, we did our due diligence and asked exactly how things worked because we wanted to bring our own personal computers into the office environment. It wasn't allowed, obviously... they insisted we provide official purchase receipts for every single device, blah blah blah... So, my partner and I were essentially forced to go out and buy two brand-new machines—one laptop for field work and one desktop for the office.
And that’s exactly what they promised us regarding Windows...
Honestly, it seems like most people just don't grasp the nuances of that law...
Of course they’re screwing us over. Now every single person trying to start a new business is forced to buy brand-new licenses for Windows... as if that isn't enough... 😁 I’d personally tell them exactly where to shove it. Honestly, before you even consider taking any kind of action, you should probably just reach out to Microsoft or someone who actually understands licensing better than those inspectors do... It’s a shame that most people don't grasp the law or the specific licensing rules, though I suspect those inspectors are just as clueless as everyone else. Besides, things often change on the fly while you're operating... When Windows 7 first launched, we were told at a seminar that only the Pro version was legal for businesses or small firms. But then it turned out last year around this time that Home Premium is technically allowed too, provided you don't try to join a domain. I only figured that out by pure accident because I went out of my way to ask Microsoft directly...
Just an update on that issue I posted about a few days ago—since nobody seems to have any answers... I honestly ran out of both time and patience to keep poking around waiting for a fix. I just went ahead and reinstalled the OS. Now we’ll see if and when this exact same headache decides to show up again. From here on out, I’m keeping a strict log of every single piece of software installed on this junker... date and name included. Hardware passed all the diagnostics perfectly fine, so everything is technically functioning. For now, the problem is solved by a clean reinstall...

Keith Sanchez6 said:Of course they’re screwing you over. It feels like anyone starting a new business is basically forced to buy brand-new hardware just to get legitimate Windows licenses. Honestly—I have a few choice words for them if I ever ran into them. 😁 My advice? Before you commit to any big moves, please—just ask Microsoft or someone who actually understands licensing laws rather than relying on those government inspectors. Unfortunately, most people don't grasp the legalities or the specific licensing rules, but frankly, it seems like the inspectors don't really get it either. Plus, some things just have to be figured out as you go. When Windows 7 first rolled out, I remember at a seminar they told us only the Pro version was allowed for businesses or small firms. But then, by this time last year, it turned out you could technically use Home Premium too—though, obviously, you can't join a domain with it. I only found that out by total accident because I made a point to go straight to Microsoft to double-check.
An update on that issue I posted about a few days ago—since I haven't seen any replies, I didn't have the time or the patience to keep tinkering and waiting around. I just reinstalled the OS. We'll see if the problem resurfaces and when. This time, though, I'm going to keep a log of every single piece of software installed on this machine—date and name included. Hardware passed all the diagnostics perfectly; everything looks fine. For now, the reinstall seems to have fixed it.
Well, whatever happened, happened. Moving forward, we'll check in here first, then reach out to Microsoft, and leave the state inspectors for dead last. 🙂

Hi there, I wasn't quite sure which thread to jump into here... but I noticed there are plenty of experts in this group who really know their stuff. So, here's my situation: when I boot up my laptop, everything seems fine initially, but then it just freezes right on the "Welcome" screen. Is there a simple fix I can try myself, or am I looking at a repair shop visit? Interestingly, everything runs perfectly fine when I boot into Safe Mode.

Just grab CCleaner and head into those startup settings—you might want to "unlock" everything that's currently set to launch right when you boot up the machine. Honestly, who knows? One of those background processes could be the culprit causing all this headache.

So, here’s the situation—I haven't been able to run a single Windows update since... I don't even know, maybe July 2011? I can't wrap my head around what this specific error actually means or how one is supposed to fix it. And honestly, I'm questioning the whole utility of these updates anyway—is it worth the headache to get things running again, or should I just leave it be? I see plenty of people out there choosing to disable updates entirely—I haven't touched mine in two years, after all—but if I do manage to patch this up and finally update, is there any actual benefit? Will the machine run any faster, or is it just more digital noise? Take a look at this video and tell me what you think about the problem:

If I do manage to get it working and run the updates, will my PC actually run any faster? Or what? Check out this video to see the issue...

This looks like a tough one to crack
maybe check in with a technician to have them run a diagnostic—or perhaps just try a fresh install of Windows 7 (reinstalling everything or doing a factory reset)...

It’s pretty obvious to me that your update service isn't even running. Track down whatever service is responsible for it, flip the switch to enable it, and then give that update another shot.

Samuel Price58 said:He’s telling you quite plainly—though perhaps not eloquently enough—that the specific update service isn't active on your machine. You need to hunt down that particular service in your settings, toggle it on, and then, and only then, can you attempt to run the update again.
Well, it seems my local repair shops all have Windows update ready to go, yet somehow, for some inexplicable reason, I'm the only one left out in the cold without it.

Look, if you want things to actually work, just go find a legitimate version of Windows 7 and stop complaining... then maybe you'll actually see those updates.

I think I’ve finally connected the dots on what’s going wrong here—it turns out my Windows Update service and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) are both missing, which puts me in the exact same boat as http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...ng-in-services
. It just dawned on me—looking back through the wreckage of my digital life—that this all started when I caught a nasty Trojan. I ended up hauling my machine over to a repair shop downtown, and while those technicians managed to scrub the malware away, they clearly left some collateral damage behind. Ever since that "fix," I haven't been able to run a single update. It seems they wiped the registry clean without realizing it; if you look under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\, neither wuauserv nor BITS are even listed anymore.

I was messing around with some group policies on my laptop. I was logged in as an administrator, but I ended up restricting myself—leaving only Firefox and Microsoft Word as runnable applications. Now I’m stuck. I can't revert to my previous settings because I can't access anything else besides those two programs. Is there any way to roll back to the default configuration? 😕

I can’t get any of these programs to run. Nothing. The only thing working is Firefox. If I try to launch anything else, I just get hit with an access denied message. Even trying to open the Command Prompt is a dead end.
