I tried looking, but I honestly can't find Application Data or Roaming anywhere.
I head over to the user folder—you know, under the username—but there's no AppData or Roaming in sight.
Plus, when I try typing "Transcoded Wallpaper" into the search bar on the Start menu, nothing pops up at all.

Is it possible my PC just doesn't have those folders?

On the bright side, I ran Slim Drivers (thanks!) and it updated everything, so now Windows is booting up totally fine.

Okay, so I finally tracked down the TranscodedWallpaper file and wiped it out, but nope—still didn't fix a thing. 😢

I'm calling it quits for now. Honestly, I've tried everything under the sun (thanks for all the help, though!).

Robin Johnson said:What would that even mean—that they aren't activated?😕
Everything works fine for me, so I assume they are activated. Not sure...😕
I'm no expert, but they look activated to me.😁

Control Panel, System and Security, System
Check what it says under "Windows activation" 🙂

Did I miss something, or did you forget to mention which computer or laptop you're actually using? Asking because of the drivers. Wouldn't that make updating the system easier?

BTW, are we talking about Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit or 64-bit? 🤔

Did I miss something, or did you just not mention which computer or laptop you're running? Asking because of the drivers—it’s usually way easier to update everything if we know the hardware, right?

BTW, is that Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit or 64-bit? 🤔

Yep, they aren't activated—I'll get on that!
Everything was working fine, then I totally blanked on it.
It's a new laptop, a Toshiba, with 4GB of RAM, and I'm running 32-bit Windows.
The whole setup is brand new and Windows was just installed, so it's possible I'm still missing some pieces.
I knocked out all the drivers right at the start. Hopefully that's everything—once I ran Slim Drivers, it didn't give me any more alerts about missing stuff.

Everything was working fine, then I just completely forgot about it.
For context, it’s a brand new Toshiba laptop with 4GB of RAM running a 32-bit version of Windows.
Since the computer is fresh out of the box and Windows was just installed, it's entirely possible I'm still missing a few things.
I went ahead and installed all the drivers right at the start. Hopefully, that covers everything, because once I ran Slim Drivers, I didn't get any more alerts about missing hardware.

Did the 32-bit Windows come pre-installed on the laptop?
And it isn't activated?
Is it a pirated copy?

[No input provided for rewriting] kaže:
Did the Win32 versions come pre-installed on this Apple?
Not activated?
Pirate software? evo

Alright, finally registered—got my desktop setup all ready to go!😁
The Apple was totally wiped when I first picked it up.

It said that you don't get access to all the Windows features without registering—but I don't really get why it felt like I was just missing the desktop itself.🤷

So, it told me I had a month to get registered, but that deadline already flew by—even though the registration actually went through.🤷

Anyway, thanks for all the help everyone!🙂

Otherwise, you can always hunt for drivers here. 😉

Is there any way to actually wipe or downgrade DirectX11 on Windows 7 without having to nuking the whole OS and starting over?

I have no idea why anyone would even want to remove DirectX.

I've been wondering the same thing, but...

I’d honestly just scrap it—mostly because I’m convinced it’s the thing keeping me from actually launching Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. I wouldn't go as far as a full delete, though; I'd probably just downgrade it back to the latest version of DirectX 9.
Sean Moore77, I'll give that a shot.

So, I just went through all the steps, but for some reason, it's still telling me I'm running DirectX 11

I'm calling it quits. I just can't find any way to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to actually run.
Now I'm left wondering—do I seriously need to try reinstalling DirectX 11? Because dxdiag is telling me I've got version 11, but then Everest shows me DirectX 9... honestly, I'm completely lost here.

Look, you didn't actually delete it—and honestly, you can't really "delete" it anyway—so that useless article above isn't helping anyone. DirectX 11 is baked right into Windows 7, just like how DirectX 10 is part of Windows Vista or DirectX 9 is built into Windows XP. Windows simply uses whatever DirectX features your specific graphics card is capable of handling; it has absolutely nothing to do with whether your game runs or not. You're looking in the wrong direction—the problem is definitely something else entirely.

Look, I get it—it feels pretty ridiculous that Windows 7 users are getting locked out of playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Every time I try to fire this thing up, I’m hit with that annoying "DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error; please read the readme for possible solutions" message. I've been digging through forums trying to figure out if it's a DirectX issue, and from what I can tell, it seems like the game is strictly looking for DirectX 9 support. Apparently, the only real fix people are talking about is a full reinstall of Windows. What a joke.

Just try installing DirectX 9.0 C—it's entirely possible you're missing some random component somewhere in the stack.
