When you protect a Sheet, make sure to check the boxes for "Sort" and "Use auto filter" (check the second image in the link above).

I tried it. It doesn't work.

I’ve run into another issue. When I use >, it isn't searching through hidden cells. This wasn't an issue back in the 2003 version.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

Tried it! Still busted.

Well, guess I'm useless then.
Sorting and filtering on a locked worksheet works fine for me.

Hey there!
I’m trying to get Microsoft Excel up and running on my computer. A friend recommended it, so I grabbed a version of Microsoft Excel 2007 from a torrent site, but I can't actually open it... or maybe I'm just doing something wrong? It tells me I need to extract something, so I click through, the progress bar hits 100%, and then... nothing. Absolutely nothing happens! What am I doing wrong here??? 🙂 Just a heads-up, I’m definitely not a tech expert—so far, my only experience downloading things has been movies... any help would be amazing!
I even tried finding a different version online instead of using the torrent, but that was a total nightmare. I spent forever fighting off all those annoying toolbars!

Greetings everyone. I am new here and just registered today. I have spent quite a bit of time searching through Google and visiting local libraries, but overall, I haven't found much regarding VBA programming, especially in the English language.

That said, there are some interesting tutorials on YouTube, which have helped me pick up a few things.

However, I have stumbled upon a specific problem that I cannot seem to resolve.

I have created a user form (UserForm1) where I input certain values. These values are then recorded onto an Excel sheet, where Excel performs the necessary calculations and displays the results in a second textbox on the form. Everything functions perfectly until I hit this particular snag.

So, my question is this:

Is it possible to have a single textbox display a value based on a specific cell range?

To put it simply, the logic would be roughly this:

If a specific cell's value falls within a certain range (for example, M8:M15), display that value in TextBox17.

In my current setup, the form contains one command button and one textbox.

If anyone knows how the code should be structured, I would be very grateful if you could provide an example.
I managed to draft something myself, but I can only get the value to show up in seven different textboxes rather than just one.

The code looks like this:

Private Sub ButtonClick()
' 1.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(9, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(9, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox17.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(9, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox17.Value = ""
End If

' 2.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(10, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(10, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox18.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(10, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox18.Value = ""
End If

' 3.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(11, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(11, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox19.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(11, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox19.Value = ""
End If

' 4.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(12, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(12, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox20.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(12, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox20.Value = ""
End If

' 5.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(13, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(13, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox21.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(13, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox21.Value = ""
End If

' 6.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(14, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(14, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox22.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(14, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox22.Value = ""
End If

' 7.

If ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value >= ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(15, 7).Value And ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(16, 4).Value < ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(15, 8).Value Then
UserForm1.TextBox23.Value = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("3").Cells(15, 11).Value
Else
UserForm1.TextBox23.Value= ""
End If

End Sub

Essentially, these commands establish a condition: if the value of X (the first cell) is greater than or equal to value Y (the second cell), and if value X is also less than value Z (the third cell), then...
The value in cell G (the fourth cell) should equal the value found in P (the fifth cell, or specifically within textbox - a)
Otherwise
cell G (the fourth cell) remains empty

Sorting and filtering on a protected worksheet works just fine for me

It works perfectly if I unprotect the locked cells, but then the sheet protection becomes useless. Completely pointless. Thanks for the effort.

Since I'm already going down this rabbit hole, here’s a little extra effort to help you out if this works for you.

- How to allow sorting and filtering data within locked cells on a protected worksheet

- How to enable sorting and filtering when cells are locked on a protected worksheet.

It all comes back to that same issue: cell ranges with editing permissions. My specific headache is having several protected columns sitting right in the middle of a table I need to sort. It’s clear Microsoft didn't design the software with this exact scenario in mind. Honestly, it's frustrating. My only real workaround is to unprotect the entire sheet, run the sort, and then lock it back up. That seems to be the only way to handle it. Thanks for the help, regardless.

I just want to ask one more time: why does Ctrl+F fail to search through hidden columns? On certain sheets, it still works perfectly fine, but unfortunately, on most others, it doesn't. I’ve gone looking for a reason, but I can't find any discernible difference between them. It’s inconsistent—sometimes it searches hidden cells, and sometimes it ignores them entirely. Why is this happening?

Elizabeth Howard97 said:I tried looking, but honestly, I don't see any difference between them, so whatever... Sometimes it's searching through hidden cells, and other times it isn't. Why the hell is that?

Hard to say anything for sure without actually seeing the file and digging into it. Don't want to pretend I'm some kind of psychic expert.😉

Need some help here 🙂
I need to compare Sheet 1 and Sheet 2 to find discrepancies in column B. For example, in column A, XXX has a value of 100.00 on Sheet 1 and the same on Sheet 2, but YYY has different values (Sheet 1 shows 200, while Sheet 2 shows 250). I'm trying to identify which items don't match.

A B
XXX 100.00
YYY 200.00
ZZZ 300.00

A B
ZZZ 300.00
XXX 100.00
YYY 250.00

I know there's a way to do this using VLOOKUP or LOOKUP, but I'm just not sure how to set it up.

Ashley Collins36 said:I need to compare Sheet1 and Sheet2 to find whatever differences are sitting in column B.

Since you didn't drop a download link for an example, just go check out some tutorials. I'm pretty sure you're dealing with unique values versus duplicates.
- Duplicates in Excel.
- Excel Uniques
- Unique data in Excel.

Let's say:
Column A's got all the data.
Check column B—you can also use Sheet2 if that works better.

So, you drop a formula into a cell—say, D1—and then just drag that thing down the column:
Basically, this formula checks if the value in A1 already exists somewhere in the range B1 through B100. If it finds a match, it leaves the cell blank. If there’s no match? It just spits out whatever is in A1. Simple enough.
So, here's the deal: if the value falls between B1 and B100, you want cell A1 to show up empty. If it doesn't meet that condition? Then just pull whatever's in A1.
The results we got are just the differences between two columns.

I'm running into an issue with Microsoft OneDrive. I need to draft a term paper for college using Word, but since I don't have Windows 7, I decided to use OneDrive Office—the online version of Word. The problem is that every time I start typing, I get an error message saying something went wrong and telling me to restart the application. Naturally, I do that, but the exact same thing happens every single time after I type just a few letters at the beginning. Does anyone know what's causing this mess 🤷?

Hey everyone, I’ve got a bit of a tough one here. I can usually hold my own with the Office suite, but this is a step above my skill level.

Here’s what I’m trying to pull off:
I have this Word document that stays pretty much the same every time—only specific words or numbers change.

For example: AT&T saw 12% higher revenue in 2011 than in 2010.

The bolded part is the only thing that actually changes in this Word doc.

That bolded part—that specific number—is something I currently just type in manually from my Excel spreadsheets. That value is always in the exact same spot in those files, say, cell F12.
Can I somehow upload that Excel sheet into Word, or maybe get Word to just grab the data from cell F12 and drop it right into that bolded spot?

Can anyone recommend a good beginner's book for Excel and Word? Also, where should I look for one—maybe at Best Buy? I want to make sure I don't end up with something outdated from $67.

What does Windows 7 even have to do with a term paper?
A term paper can be written in Word on basically any OS that has Word (or something similar) installed.

Since you mentioned Best Buy, you can probably find them in any of their stores. Honestly, you can pick up basic Word and Excel books at pretty much any bookstore too.

If you just want the basics for Word and Excel online with actual examples and tutorials, check out these links (or just Google the Microsoft site)

- Excel 2003
- Excel 2007
- Word 2003
- Word 2007

The 2003 links cover the basics with examples and instructions (plus some slightly more advanced stuff), while the 2007 ones have more detailed guides on the core elements.
Hope these help you out.

Try using Forms. Might actually solve your problem if you play it right.

- Forms in Word 2003
- Forms in Word 2007
- Linking Excel data into Word Documents
- Inserting Excel data in a Word 2007 Document

I'm running Windows XP, but my college uses machines with Windows 7. I was worried I wouldn't be able to open Word on the campus computers because my older version might not be compatible. I already know I couldn't open a DOCX file on my laptop, even though they always use them in Word at school.

You're probably stuck using Word 2003 with those old *.doc files.
If you're on Word 2007 using the *.docx format, just save it as an older version. Or, if you're stuck on Word 2003, you can actually open *.docx files if you grab the Viewer

- How do I save a document for Word 2003 if I'm using Word 2007?
