Helou.

I'm running into an issue. I want to add a proofing language—specifically American English—but my default is stuck on just one option.
So, I try to add it, but it says "not installed." I follow the hyperlink to the Microsoft site, download the proofing language pack, install it, and restart Word (I even went as far as restarting my entire PC), but Word still claims it isn't installed. Meanwhile, when I check Programs and Features, the language pack clearly shows up as installed.
I guess I'm at a loss here. What am I supposed to do now?
Thanks in advance for any help.

1. I'm trying to figure out how to fix capitalization in Excel. I already know about the PROPER and UPPER functions, but they aren't doing what I need. For example, if I have "El Paso City Street," I want it to look like "El Paso City Street," but my current attempts are forcing everything into lowercase after the first letter—turning it into "El paso city street." I need a way to capitalize the first letter of the cell while leaving the rest of the existing casing exactly as it is.
2. Does anyone happen to have a link to a reliable site that lists these kinds of macros or VBA snippets?
3. Also, is there an efficient way to bulk-insert text into an entire column? Say I have a list containing "Mainz" and "El Paso," and I want to prepend the word "Street" so it reads "Street Mainz" and "Street El Paso." On the flip side, I also need to append text to the end of cells—like turning "Frankopanski" or "Heinzlov" into "Frankopanski Street" or "Heinzlov Street."

3. Is there a way to add words to an entire column? Like, if I have Mainz City, El Paso City, -- and I want to put "Street" in front of them so it reads Mainz City Street, El Paso City Street. Same thing for adding stuff to the end of a cell, like Heinzelov, Frankopanski------>Frankopanski Street, Heinzelov Street.

You should've uploaded the file for us to download. Gotta see what you've actually done and how much effort you put in—basically seeing if you're even on the right track since you're already messing around with some Excel functions.

1. Try using LEFT, MID, and so on... basically build a nested formula.

2. You can find a quick rundown on macros at this link, and VBA for Excel is also covered in this beginner guide
.
3. To merge text, just use the CONCATENATE function.

Why on earth aren't you just using Replace:
1. To switch Street to Street,
2. Or to tack Street onto the front of a city, just swap the word city
with City Street and let the software rip through the whole document for you.

The solution is so incredibly simple that, frankly, I’m starting to worry I didn't even understand what was being asked here.

I think you missed my point because you got too hung up on the specific example I used—and honestly, changing a single value like that is trivial with a basic find-and-replace. In my actual spreadsheet, I’m dealing with a massive variety of data points: different cities, streets, lakes, mountains, and so on. What Kyle Johnson2 is suggesting is definitely the right way to go, but I’m currently struggling to get the nested formulas to behave themselves. I have already implemented the CONCATENATE command 👍. From what I can see, Excel offers a tool called Kutools that solves this exact headache instantly, but those bastards charge a premium for it.

That’s great, thanks. You didn't really need to go through the trouble of explaining how to add an expression to a cell—I actually figured that out on my first pass—but I appreciate it. It'll definitely come in handy for someone else reading this thread.

Alright, I need some assistance here. I am working with Word 2013 and I need to design some labels—specifically a sheet with a 4x10 layout (4 labels across, 10 down, totaling 40 per page). Each label measures 52 mm by 30 mm, assuming a 0.5 mm margin.

I am looking for a step-by-step guide on how to set up a document in Word where every single label contains the exact same text.

Additionally—if anyone happens to find an Avery template online that matches these dimensions (52.5 x 29.7 mm) for easy printing—I would be quite grateful.

It's not that specific version, but these tutorials should at least walk you through the basics step-by-step.

- making address labels in Word
- how to create a new label
- creating labels in Word 2003

Hey,

anyone out there actually have a fix for this headache?

Here’s the deal: I’ve got three columns in Excel. The first two are totally fine, but column three is a disaster. I need to swap out "Alpbach" for whatever city is sitting right there in the middle column.

I managed to grind through the first 19 rows manually, but now it’s getting ridiculous. From row 20 to 28, I need "Alpbach" replaced with "Arlberg." Then from 29 to 27—wait, my numbering is all over the place, but you get it—it needs to be "Alpbach Axamer," and so on.

This goes on for over a thousand rows. If there was some way to do a lightning-fast replace, I wouldn't be losing my mind here.

Can we cook up a formula or maybe a macro to handle this?
If it helps, I could just set up a fourth column filled with all these specific cities that are supposed to take over for "Alpbach" in the third column. Then maybe a formula could just point to that fourth column as a fixed reference and swap everything out in column three automatically.😕

Right now, I’m stuck highlighting nine rows at a time and manually replacing "Alpbach" with the city for that specific line. It's soul-crushing.

I've run into a bit of a snag. At my firm, we use a digital signature system to handle employee check-ins and check-outs through the Social Security Administration and health insurance portals, which works perfectly fine. However, I'm trying to figure out how to insert a physical signature line directly into a document in Word 2003 for printing purposes. In Word 2007, the process is straightforward, but for some reason, I can't seem to locate the option in Word 2003.

Thanks!

Man, it’d be way easier if you actually uploaded a sample file for download instead of just some screenshot.
And maybe show what like ten rows of actual data should look like.

Here's a workaround while you wait for someone to whip up some VBA for you. 😉
Uses a bunch of Excel functions here (CONCATENATE, FIND, LEN, LEFT, SUBSTITUTE, SEARCH etc..)

The formulas are:

D2: =CONCATENATE("+";LEFT(B2;FIND(" ";B2)-1);" +";RIGHT(B2;LEN(B2)-FIND("*";SUBSTITUTE(B2;" ";"*";LEN(B2)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B2;" ";"")))));C2)

D3: =CONCATENATE("+";LEFT(B3;FIND(" ";B3)-1);" +";RIGHT(B3;LEN(B3)-FIND("*";SUBSTITUTE(B3;" ";"*";LEN(B3)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B3;" ";"")))));" ";C3)

D4: =CONCATENATE("+";LEFT(B4;FIND(" ";B4)-1);" +";RIGHT(B4;LEN(B4)-FIND("*";SUBSTITUTE(B4;" ";"*";LEN(B4)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B4;" ";"")))));" ";C4)

D5: =CONCATENATE("+";LEFT(B5;FIND(" ";B5)-1);" +";RIGHT(B5;LEN(B5)-FIND("*";SUBSTITUTE(B5;" ";"*";LEN(B5)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B5;" ";"")))));" ";C5)

D6: =CONCATENATE("+";LEFT(B6;FIND(" ";B6)-1);" +";RIGHT(B6;LEN(B6)-FIND("*";SUBSTITUTE(B6;" ";"*";LEN(B6)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B6;" ";"")))));" ";C6)

D7: =CONCATENATE(B7;" ";C7)

D8: =CONCATENATE(B8;" ";C8)

D9: =CONCATENATE(RIGHT(B9;LEN(B9)-SEARCH(" ";B9)) & " " & LEFT(B9;SEARCH(" ";B9)-1);" ";C9)

D10: =CONCATENATE(RIGHT(B10;LEN(B10)-SEARCH(" ";B10)) & " " & LEFT(B10;SEARCH(" ";B10)-1);" ";C10)

So basically this is one group—just select the block in column D and paste it group by group, one right after the other.

You can skip column C entirely if you just hardcode the name (like taxi/transfer) directly into the formula for every item from column C.
If you want to blast this whole group down through 1,000 more rows, follow these instructions on copying cells or go even faster with copying tens of thousands of rows. Just grab the D2:D10 range and copy.

EXCEL - quick little hiccup here!!!!
In columns A, B, C, and D on sheet1, I’ve entered some data and sent it off to users to work with.
The people using this file have permission to edit those values, but I really need to know which specific cells they've changed from my original numbers. Is there a way to make a cell change color automatically—maybe turn the number a different color or just something super obvious?
- I’ve used a method like this once before, but honestly, it was ages ago. I can't remember where I saved the instructions or how the setup worked. I'm currently drowning in deadlines and just don't have the bandwidth to go hunting for answers, so please bear with me! (Works for Excel 2007 or 2010, doesn't matter much to me).
- These details are for monthly reports, so we're looking at changes happening throughout the entire year.

EDIT: Oh, right—"Track Changes" didn't really do it for me. Not quite what I'm looking for.
I'm hoping to get some help before midnight, otherwise, I've got to head out and return some shoes. 🙂
Thanks in advance!

I finally dug something up! If anyone else is looking for this kind of thing, feel free to check it out:

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Sheet2.Cells(Sheet2.UsedRange.Rows.Count + 1, 1) = Application.UserName
Sheet2.Cells(Sheet2.UsedRange.Rows.Count, 2) = Date
Sheet2.Cells(Sheet2.UsedRange.Rows.Count, 3) = Target.Address
Sheet2.Cells(Sheet2.UsedRange.Rows.Count, 4) = Target.Value

If Target.Interior.Color <> vbGreen Then
Target.Interior.Color = vbGreen
Else
Target.Interior.Color = vbRed
End If
End Sub

So, what does this code actually do?
- It logs changes made in Sheet1 over to Sheet2. It grabs the username in column A, the date of the change in B, the specific cell address in C, and the new value in D. Plus, it toggles the cell color in Sheet1 between green and red every time you update an entry. Pretty handy, right?

Greetings!
I’m relatively new to this forum, so please bear with me if I stumble over any technicalities or make a mess of things.
Does anyone happen to know how to insert an image into an Excel sheet? Now, don't get me wrong—I'm not such a complete novice that I wouldn't know how to perform a standard "Insert Image" command, but I'm looking for something a bit more... surgical. Specifically, I need the image to land in a precise location, and the choice of which image appears needs to be dictated by the value within a specific cell.

Does anyone here know how to actually insert an image into an Excel sheet? Look, I'm not such a total amateur that I don't know how to hit "insert," but I need the image to land in a specific spot, and—here's the kicker—the image choice needs to change based on whatever value is sitting in a certain cell. Any ideas?

Hi everyone. Is there any way to set it up so that when I open a document in Microsoft Word, my cursor starts right at the end of the text? I want to be able to just pick up where I left off and keep typing—right now, it always defaults to the very beginning, which means I’m constantly having to hit Ctrl+End just to get to the bottom.
