And what if I told you—as the self-appointed President of the Global Commission for Evaluating Relevance and Significance—that in my humble opinion, The National hasn't done anything meaningful since "Alligator"?
😒

Honestly, this thread is pure chaos. It’s just a non-stop "rat race" where every commenter trashes the previous person's generic indie band just to pivot back to their own favorite cookie-cutter group
:
At the end of the day, for a middle-of-the-road festival aimed at a mainstream radio audience, this lineup is actually solid. Just because none of these acts interest me personally doesn't mean I should play God and claim nobody else will care, either...

You'd just tell me I'm totally missing the point of one top-tier album (The Boxer) and two great ones. 😬

Anyhow... I don't think I said anything subjective about Franz Ferdinand. 🕺

Florence + The Machine aren't some cookie-cutter band... they're a hit, Kevin Chavez3. 🤣

That alone tells you everything you need to know about the decision-making process behind the scenes of this festival.☕

Personally, I wouldn't even book Iggy as a headliner myself—but then again, that is just my two cents.

Personally, I wouldn't even put Iggy Pop in the headliner slot, but that's just my opinion.

The year Billy Idol headlined saw the highest ticket sales on record. Jamiroquai followed closely behind.

It might seem bizarre, but that is just how the market works. Arcade Fire were at their absolute peak—they had headlined Coachella just two months prior and were fresh off a Grammy win—so the crowd was mostly just a small group of hipsters. Half an hour later, the main stage was absolutely packed on YouTube.

No, I mean—it’s more like this venue is just too small and the budget is way too tight to actually land a massive, top-tier headliner... so they’d much rather go with someone who doesn't cost an arm and a leg but still carries a name that sounds impressive enough for the posters...

I honestly think the Coachella organizers should just go for it and book one or even two massive, mainstream headliners. They could easily bump up the ticket price by about $25-$67. If people were willing to drop over $150 for someone like U2, I don't see why they couldn't just add another $67 onto the current ticket price to land a huge act at Central Park. Let's face it, tons of people fly all over the country for shows where the flight and hotel alone cost five times more than a Coachella ticket.

It would end up costing them a massive chunk of their core audience—all those students and college kids who basically make up the heartbeat of the crowd.

The crowds will always show up, don't you worry about that—but the real headache is where on earth you’d fit 30,000 or 40,000 people at Central Park? There was actually this one idea floating around a few years back about bringing in a massive global headliner and moving Coachella just west of Chicago, but... well, everything fell through.
I honestly feel like that lake is what gives the festival its soul, and it would be pretty silly to host it without it.

It’s not just about having a lake right there, though that's a huge plus; it's the sheer fact that this is one of those rare music festivals actually held right in the heart of the city. I mean, we aren't talking about some dusty field out on the outskirts or some remote spot miles away from civilization—it’s right in the middle of everything. And honestly, the location itself is killer, even if it does feel a bit cramped at times; you can tell they couldn't fit a single extra soul in there without things getting absolutely ridiculous.
To me, Coachella always brings Sziget to mind, and vice versa.

Woohoo! Florence + The Machine. 😁 I heard they were in talks with her, but she’s so pricey that I wasn't really expecting them to close the deal. 😁

This is enough for me. 🎉

Is there any way to actually find a setlist for the bands performing? I need to know what we're getting into before the show starts.

Alright, look, even if they decide to dump all the big names into one single band, it’s still pretty underwhelming. The harsh reality is that Florence + The Machine isn't exactly at their absolute peak anymore, and let's be real, they're always lagging behind by a year or two, but I guess we've just become numb to that constant delay. Personally, I'm not holding my breath for any massive lineup announcements before the festival kicks off—and honestly, thank God if I'm wrong about that ☕

The only silver lining here is knowing we're still pulling more weight than that overrated Lollapalooza. I mean, come on, those guys are practically nothing compared to us! 😁
