Joseph Stewart38;53269382 said:That’s exactly the point. These bookmakers rake in massive millions, pouring huge amounts of cash into stadium advertisements, yet they’ll limit you the second you try to place a decent wager. 🤦

It seems like our local sharks are their favorite targets. I’ve personally never dealt with anyone trying to cap my action here, regardless of whether I was hitting a big win on some random Challenger tennis match or a Champions League fixture.

Spot on. At these domestic bookmakers, I’ve laid down heavy sums and walked away with both massive wins and crushing losses without anyone even blinking. A few of my friends and acquaintances have had the exact same experience; they still play today without facing any restrictions whatsoever. I remember running into an old acquaintance about 12 or 13 years ago—the guy was practically carrying $100,000 in his jacket and wanted to put it all on a Venus match, I can't recall who her opponent was. It was some tiny underdog odds, and the USA sportsbook just rejected him outright. That is honestly the only time I’ve ever seen a bet refused. To be clear, payouts in the $30,000 to $40,000 range didn't cause a single stir. And keep in mind, those figures were in the currency used during that referendum the Knight mentioned.

If my memory serves me right, my original USA account is limited to a tiny little cage holding about fifty animals, so I'm really at a loss as to how I'm supposed to respond to your claims 🤷

I’ve never heard of anything quite like that happening directly at a retail location. As for the whole banking situation, I honestly couldn't tell you; people in my generation don't even bother with physical accounts anymore.

And just like that, my account at the USA is shut down.

"Once you withdraw your remaining funds, your account will be closed."

That really says it all regarding just how fantastic our local bookmakers are, doesn't it? 🙂

Tyler Taylor82 said:No, man, you’re reading it wrong again—I said once you get limited, you’re stuck with it for life 😁
and the real answer to the question above is that there's a massive chance you'll get flagged if you try to grab a bigger payout on some low-tier match...

Look, fine, IF you get limited, then yeah, it's permanent. But from what we've gathered, you're probably going to hit that wall the second you try to pull a decent chunk of cash on a Challenger match or some random MLS game.

It was some tiny little odds, and the USA sportsbook just rejected him outright. That’s literally the only rejection I've ever seen with my own eyes. Seriously, payouts up to $30,000 or $40,000 don't even make them twitch. And don't forget, those figures were in the local currency from back when that referendum Tyler mentioned was happening.

Since we're talking about Venus and tennis anyway... just to throw this out there for the sake of the debate... I once placed a bet for $10 on a tennis match without any drama at all. Sure, it took a bit longer to "spin" through—meaning I was waiting a while for approval—but they eventually cleared it...

Then you run into issues with your billing at USA. I know for a fact that things always ran smoothly at the local branch. If our people aren't up to the task, then an "old dog" like me wouldn't be bothering with online betting at my age anyway.

So much for how great our local bookmakers are... seriously. 🙂

Oh, really? Can you give me some actual details, though? Like, why exactly did they do it, how much money are we talking about, and over what timeframe did you pull in that profit they clearly think is "too much" for them to handle? If you’re too embarrassed to talk about it here, just shoot me a DM—I’d really love to know under what specific circumstances USA decides to just shut someone down. And is that even legal? I mean, can they actually just yank your account like that without giving a single reason?? It’s your right to play, for crying out loud—nobody should be allowed to just block you like that.

Well, it’s all right there in the terms and conditions, isn't it? There really isn't anything to argue about.

If they actually treated their regulars right—but hey, they don't—then some "old fossil" like me wouldn't even be messing around with online betting at my age.

That’s exactly the point! When you walk into a physical sportsbook, they can't keep tabs on you like this. But once you start betting online? Man, they see everything. Every single bet, every dime you put down, exactly how much you've lost versus what you've won—it's all sitting right there in their digital archives for them to track. They're watching your every move. Back in the day, walking into a shop and dropping a few bucks was easy because it was basically anonymous; they had no clue who you were or what your betting history looked like. But online? They have your whole life on file—full name, Social Security number, the works... they know everything.

They know exactly what you put down, how much you’ve won, and everything in between—they can track your entire history with ease. If you walk into a shop and drop a few hundred bucks, they don't have a clue who you are or what your betting patterns look like. That’s why the old-school way worked; it offered a level of anonymity that just doesn't exist anymore. Online, they have your whole life mapped out—full name, Social Security number, the works.

Look, I get it. I was specifically talking about the brick-and-mortar shops, and I'm staying out of the debate regarding bank accounts since I don't know the first thing about how those work.

Everyone is acting so shocked, like I’m some kind of villain. Look, if you can't handle it, just don't play. Simple as that. Bookmakers are basically just casinos. If you walk into a casino here in the States and pull in a massive haul, they'll ban you for life. Just like any private corporation has the right to choose who they do business with, every sportsbook has the right to decide who they take bets from and how they structure those bets. It's obvious: when someone hits a huge payout on a niche market, the house assumes they've got insider info. So, they move fast to limit them or just wipe them out entirely to prevent further losses. That's just their business model, and it clearly works since they keep making money that way.

Maybe we should start a petition to get UNICEF to open a sportsbook with zero limits, no taxes, great variety, and solid odds. Because hey, if everyone else gets special rights, why shouldn't bettors? 🤦

Joseph Stewart38 said:Oh, really now? Could you perhaps elaborate just a little bit more on why that happened—I mean, what kind of amounts are we talking about here, and over what kind of timeframe did you manage to pull in such a massive profit that they clearly found too intimidating? If you feel a bit awkward discussing it in public, you could always send me a private message, as I would truly love to understand under which specific circumstances the USA might decide to shut down someone's account. And honestly, is that even legal? Are they actually permitted to just close an account like that without providing a proper explanation?? Surely it is your fundamental right to play, and no one should be allowed to strip that away from you!

I don't know the exact figures involved, to be honest. I was simply placing bets on the ITF and handball, and that was essentially it.

I didn't touch live betting at all, not even a single cent.

I agree that online makes it easier for them to track who's taking their money and how, but what you said about the branches isn't quite right. Since we're talking about major US sportsbooks, I know for a fact they have systems in place to track individual players. They get alerts when someone walks into a location to place a bet, so the idea that you aren't being monitored just isn't true...

Try taking money from any bookie on an ITF event and they'll shut you down. It's always been that way. And honestly? I'd probably block you too... 😁

What exactly is the implication when Bookmakers include ITF in their offerings? Are they just handing out free money?

Kyle Torres60 said:Look, I get it—online makes it way easier to track who’s taking your cash and where it’s going—but what you're saying about the physical shops just isn't right. Since we're talking about domestic Bookmakers, I know for a fact those three guys have tracking systems for specific players. They get notified the second someone walks in to place a bet, so your whole idea about them not having control just doesn't hold water.

So, how does that actually work in practice? You walk up to the counter at a local shop, ready to place your bet, and then the clerk just goes, "Hang on a sec, I gotta make a quick call," right? And then they ring up some manager to say, "Hey, it's that guy again—the one who keeps winning big," and after the call, they look you in the eye and go, "Sorry, we can't take this bet."

Is that really how it goes down? Because honestly, I can't imagine any other way someone could block you from placing a bet in a brick-and-mortar shop without the staff tipping someone off first.

Yeah, honestly, nowadays everything you do just happens on your phone 🤦

Guys, do you all have Skype, Messenger, or stuff like that on your devices?
Why wouldn't bookmakers have something similar?

@ nextgame
I mean, obviously they aren't offering this just to hand us cash, but it’s pretty weird how there are always such bizarre results and interesting matchups happening at USTA events...

Man, you don't actually have to select anything special or click a specific button; you just place a parlay with at least 2 picks from the ATP or WTA stuff, and the bonus just kicks in automatically.
