Which banks actually play nice with online betting?

My first post here... Can anyone tell me which online bookmakers don't allow Americans to play? Are there specific restrictions in place, and which sites are off-limits to us?
Thanks 🙂

If you're looking for the easiest way to pull your winnings from Pinnacle without having to deal with Moneybookers, there are actually a few solid routes you can take. Personally, I've found that keeping things simple usually means sticking to the more direct methods. The most straightforward approach is typically using a major credit or debit card—something like a Visa or Mastercard. It’s usually pretty seamless; you just link the card you used for your deposit, and once the transaction is processed, the funds head straight back to your account. It’s low-effort and doesn't require setting up a whole new middleman service. Another reliable option is using PayPal. Most people in the US are already set up with a PayPal account, so it feels very natural. You just link it, hit withdraw, and it moves through the system without much fuss. If you prefer something slightly different, you could look into wire transfers if the amount is large enough, though those can sometimes be a bit slower depending on how your bank handles them. But honestly, if you want to avoid the hassle of third-party e-wallets like Moneybookers, sticking to your standard Visa or PayPal is probably your best bet for a smooth experience.

Can you, for instance, use a Visa checking account or a standard savings account?

What exactly is a "Completed Credit/Debit Card Authorisation Statement"? I was looking through some paperwork recently and stumbled upon that term, and honestly, it sounds like something straight out of a legal thriller rather than a simple banking notification. In plain English, it’s basically just the formal confirmation that a transaction went through. When you swipe your Visa or tap your Mastercard at a shop or buy something online via PayPal, your bank has to give the green light to ensure the funds are actually there. Once that happens, the system generates this statement—essentially a digital receipt or a formal nod from your bank (like JPMorgan Chase or Citigroup) saying, "Yep, the money is authorized and the deal is on." It’s one of those pieces of financial jargon that sounds much more intimidating than it actually is. It’s just the paper trail proving the payment wasn't declined.

Greetings. I have a question. Since I am planning to transition to online betting, I need to set up a card or an account. My question is: what kind of account should I get? I plan to use Citigroup. Will a standard checking account with a Visa card suffice, or will I require a foreign currency account or some other type of account? I intend to use this single account for both deposits and withdrawals, so I would appreciate some advice before I head in to open the account to ensure I don't make a mistake.

Thank you in advance.

To be honest, I can't think of a single one. 🤷

I've tried quite a few over the years, and I haven't run into any issues with any of them. Then again, it might have been months since I last checked, so my memory isn't exactly sharp on whether any were restricted. 🤔

So, there’s this Australian site, DraftKings, and a buddy of mine actually got his account blocked,
basically because they decided to just screw over all their users here in America.
Honestly, he gave them a piece of his mind, though it might just be a lame excuse ☕

Thanks for the reply. I know bookies block people; it happens to me all the time, but I don't mean account bans or limits—I mean when you simply can't even register as a new user.
Here are some specific sites. Has anyone signed up or used them recently? www.betclic.com www.sportingbet.com This second one has been totally inaccessible for five days now because of some government decision regarding the Taliban, making it feel a bit like North Korea...
I bet professionally—specifically arbitrage. In a country where off-the-books work is often more common than legal online betting, it creates massive hurdles. But I won't get sidetracked; I'd just appreciate a concrete answer if anyone has one.

Seriously, how does this even work in America?
Could I just open a foreign currency account at Wells Fargo, grab a virtual Visa, and use that (in Euros) to transfer funds to a PayPal account? That's the easiest way to do it in Mexico. I don't see why it would be any more complicated here in America... unless it is?

Can I just open a foreign currency account at JPMorgan Chase, grab a virtual Visa card, and use those funds (in USD) to transfer money over to my PayPal account? That’s easily the most straightforward way to do it here in the States, so I don't see why it would be any more complicated in America... unless there's something I'm missing?

I'm staying away from PayPal because I can't get a verification code sent to my home address. I've been waiting for two years now, and even after reaching out to them several times, I haven't heard a word back.

That's why I'm wondering if a standard domestic checking account is enough for deposits and withdrawals, or if I specifically need one set up for foreign currency.

If you’re looking to bet with the world's top-tier books like DraftKings to get those elite odds, you'll likely need to open a foreign currency account. However, if you stick to sites catering specifically to this market, such as BetMGM—which I wouldn't even suggest signing up for since their odds are garbage—you could probably just play with USD.
If PayPal is giving you trouble with sending verification codes (I have no idea what the issue is; as someone who manages multiple accounts, I've had them arrive at ten different addresses within days), why not give Neteller a shot? It's an equally excellent e-wallet.

I was thinking about playing on DraftKings, or maybe bet365. I wouldn't touch BetMGM though.

I just wanted to be sure I could withdraw using my US checking account (depositing should be fine since I'm sending dollars and they'll just convert automatically), but I'm not sure if withdrawals work the same way. Using a foreign currency account probably wouldn't cause any issues either.

Perhaps it would be best to wait for someone who has actually been through this, or simply test the waters with a small amount first to see how it unfolds. My advice? Stick with experimenting via PayPal or Neteller. It gives you the flexibility to switch between different sportsbooks whenever you want, allowing you to hunt for the best lines yourself.

🤦🤦🙂

Honestly, I basically live on these forums to figure stuff out, so if I ever needed to know which public restroom in town was actually decent, I’d probably just come here and ask...

Anyway, I finally decided to try my luck a bit online and picked BetMGM...

I put down about ten bucks using my Visa, sent over copies of my ID and card just like they asked, and now I'm seeing everyone on here saying BetMGM is a total mess...

But whatever, it's only ten bucks, so it's not like it's breaking the bank...
I see they take Visa, but do they accept a Visa Electron from Bank of America? I use it all the time to send money to PayPal when I'm buying things on eBay, and since the card is in dollars, I figured it might work...

So I just sent over my first $10 using my Diners card, and they ended up asking me for a scan of my ID and my credit card, which I went ahead and sent over... but my balance is still sitting at zero...

Does anyone know how long it usually takes before the status actually updates?

Honestly, I just do all my research right here on the forums. If I ever need to go find a restroom in the middle of nowhere, I’ll probably be checking this thread first to see which one isn't a complete biohazard.

So, I figured, hey, why not mess around with some money online? Decided to give it a shot and picked BetMGM.

So, I just dropped ten bucks through my Visa card, sent over copies of my ID and my debit card like they demanded, and now I’m scrolling through this thread seeing everyone trashing BetMGM. Great. Just great.

Whatever, man. Ten bucks isn't exactly breaking the bank.
Looks like they're all backing the high one. Typical. Do they support Visa Electron from JPMorgan Chase? So, I’ve been using her to send money through PayPal without any issues, mostly because I'm constantly picking up stuff on eBay. It's all good since the card is in dollars anyway.

It really ought to happen.

urbangardener said:So I went ahead and dropped my first ten bucks using my Chase card, right? Everything seemed fine, then suddenly they’re breathing down my neck asking for a scan of my ID and my credit card. So, naturally, I scanned everything up and sent it over like a good little citizen... but now I'm sitting here staring at a zero balance. Nothing. Zilch. Just waiting around while my money vanishes into the void.

Ugh, how long does it actually take for the status to show up? Like, seriously, when am I gonna see anything?

Just hit refresh, man. It’s right there staring you in the face.

Hi everyone!

I finally decided to dive into online betting today, but I’ve already hit my first snag. I've been using my Bank of America VISA electron card for almost two years now, and up until this point, I've only ever used it through PayPal.
Now, I've tried depositing funds into bwin a few times, but I keep getting this specific error message:

"Your transaction request has been denied by your credit card company. Please contact it for further information."

Does anyone happen to know what might be causing this?

I tried topping up my account at DraftKings a few times, but every single time I get slapped with this message:

"Your transaction request has been denied by your credit card company. Please contact it for further information."

Anyone have any clue what's going on here?

Just scan the card then.

Could you clarify what the actual benefit is there?
Once I've scanned it, am I supposed to email it over to them or something?

Forgive me if these are silly questions, but I really want to get this account situation sorted out correctly. 😁

Forgive the rookie questions—I'm talking about an actual bank statement, after all. 😁

Well, at least you'll actually be able to deposit your money then...😕

Just do it that way and stop worrying...😁

Can anyone actually get money into their account at an American sportsbook using a credit card?
Every single time I try, I just get hit with some "AUTH ERROR" message... Does anyone have any clue what the hell is going on?

Maybe I should just jump ship to a different online sportsbook... but I have no idea which ones actually let you deposit directly from your bank account to your betting account...
I tried using DraftKings, but it gave me the exact same error as the guy above: "Your transaction request has been denied by your credit card company. Please contact it for further information."
It worked better when I used my Maestro card, though. If anyone has a list of decent sportsbooks that won't block me, I’d really appreciate it!
