I'm still sticking to my guns on that one.👎

I totally agree; Windows Vista was a complete disaster. Honestly, it deserves an award for being the ultimate masterclass in repackaging the exact same old stuff and selling it back to us as something new.
I've gotta hand it to those Microsoft marketing managers—they really nailed it. Don't you just love when they get it right?

I was actually wondering myself what that specific directory (x86) is even used for. 😁

Just a thought—did it ever occur to you to try installing the motherboard drivers first? Usually, those include integrated setups for the network controllers, or you could just grab the network drivers from the board's CD/DVD. 😁 I’ve had to manually install network drivers on both Windows XP and Windows 7 systems (on top of the chipset, audio, and all those other little bits) because my LAN is integrated into the board. On my older XP machines, it would work without them, but barely.

..I have to tip my hat to Microsoft's marketing geniuses here.

Hahaha... honestly, who can blame you for ditching Vista as fast as possible? I knew from day one that Vista was a total disaster, no matter how much anyone tried to defend it as some kind of breakthrough. I stuck with Windows XP for as long as I could. Now that I've moved to Windows 7, I'm having half the headaches I dealt with when I jumped from curiosity over to Vista (which took me all of a few hours, naturally). It’s built on the Vista foundation, but at least it actually works.

Honestly, it looks like the week is running just fine from where I’m sitting. I really don't get the crowd showing up just to talk trash. If this isn't your cup of tea, then don't even bother opening the thread—there isn't anything here that'll appeal to you anyway. 😛
Anyway, since I've been stuck on Windows 7 for an hour now, does anyone know how to stop the Taskbar from jumping to the top every time I launch my browser or something? I've been digging through the properties, but I'm getting nowhere. It's the Ultimate 32-bit edition! Thanks.

No, I picked up a laptop that already has Windows 7 installed with all the drivers handled. My issue isn't hardware; I'm talking about getting a "compatibility problem" error when I try to install SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005.

On another note, I've been on Windows 7 for about an hour now and I'm trying to figure out how to move the Taskbar so it isn't stuck at the top when I open my browser. I checked the properties, but no luck since I'm running the 32-bit version! Thanks.

Just right-click on the Taskbar and uncheck "Lock the Taskbar," then you should be able to drag it wherever you want. Sorry if I misunderstood you, I'm feeling a little bit hungover today!☕

Hey guys, I’ve got a problem! Back when I was running Windows XP, whenever I installed sound drivers, I always had that Realtek control panel to tweak everything. Now that I'm on Windows 7, I can't find it anywhere—it seems like the system just wiped my old drivers automatically. Is it possible that this Realtek guy didn't actually install the full suite? I have a high-end audio setup hooked up to my PC, and right now everything is just playing through the default settings, which I absolutely hate.

Greetings,

I have a quick question for the group. I am currently in the process of picking out a new PC, and I was considering installing Windows 7 on it. However, my internet connection relies on an old USB ADSL modem—an A-100 model or something similar—that was provided by AT&T back when I first signed up for ADSL service. Does anyone know if there are actually drivers available for that little gadget for Windows 7? I’ve done some digging online, but I haven't had much luck; Siemens, predictably, offers absolutely nothing regarding this 🙄 Additionally, if I were to go with Windows XP 64-bit, would the older legacy drivers still function properly?
Also, signing a new contract with AT&T for a different modem is completely off the table since I've already committed to switching over to broadband, though that won't actually be active until mid-month.

I’d suggest heading over to your motherboard manufacturer's website and grabbing the specific Windows 7 audio drivers. You should probably uninstall whatever is currently running before you try installing the new ones.

I have a quick question. I'm in the middle of picking out a new PC and was planning on installing Windows 7... but I'm running into a snag. I connect to the internet using an old USB ADSL modem (an A-100 model or something similar) that Comcast handed out back when I first got ADSL service. Does anyone know if there are actually drivers for that thing for Windows 7? I tried searching online but didn't find much... and obviously, Siemens doesn't have anything listed 🙄 What about Windows XP 64-bit (would the old drivers work then)?
Also, signing a new contract with Comcast for a different modem isn't really an option since I already committed to switching over to high-speed cable, but I won't be able to get everything hooked up until mid-month.

If Windows 7 doesn't just grab the driver for your USB modem automatically, you could probably try using Compatibility mode to run the drivers meant for XP or Windows Vista.

I'm a bit confused by your use of the term "pull." I assume you don't mean downloading them from the web; after all, once I start the installation process, I won't have any internet access until that modem actually starts functioning. 😁

Are you suggesting that Windows 7 already has the built-in drivers for this specific modem?

casuallynx8 said:What do you mean by "get it running"? I guess you don't mean via the internet, since I won't have any connection until that modem actually starts working.😁

Do you honestly think Windows 7 has built-in drivers for that specific modem?

Windows 7 usually comes with plenty of generic drivers. If it doesn't pick it up automatically, maybe you have an old driver CD for that modem meant for Windows XP; if so, it might work using Compatibility mode.

I have the CD, thanks so much.🙂

So, I just realized I’ve got about 50GB of junk sitting on my C: drive from back when I was running Windows XP ==> (Windows Old). I've got Windows 7 installed now, so I was wondering if I can just delete that folder without everything blowing up? I don't really need those old files anymore, I guess...

Didn't you format the C: drive before doing a clean install of Windows 7? I'm wondering where all those leftover pieces of Windows XP programs came from. 😕

I didn't do it like you would with Windows XP, where you just format through the BIOS and install onto a totally clean partition. I went through the DVD and chose custom installation, so it wasn't really a clean install, more like an upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7... anyway, everything seems to be working fine, I guess. Even Microsoft's website has instructions saying you can do it this way. But yeah, I still have that old folder, or that part of the partition from the old OS. Theoretically nothing was deleted—everything is still there from when I had xpu, except obviously the programs aren't installed anymore.

If you aren't planning on using Windows Old anymore, just go ahead and wipe it. Once it's gone, make sure you run a defrag on that partition to clean things up properly.
