Look, there are hundreds of these sidebar gadgets floating around the web—just hit up Google. You can even grab massive bundles for something like $580 if you want everything at once. Just download them, install them, and instead of cluttering up your sidebar, just pin the gadget directly to your desktop.

casuallynx8 said:What do you mean by "get them up and running"? I can't exactly pull them from the internet; once I start the installation process, I won't have any web access until that modem is actually functional.😁

Do you honestly think Windows 7 comes with the drivers for that specific modem pre-installed?

If I were you, I’d try to be proactive before wiping the drive. If you're running two partitions, just dump every single driver you might need—including the outdated ones—onto the second partition. It’s a lifesaver for things like modems or motherboard chipsets when you're stuck in a digital vacuum. I learned this the hard way at a buddy's place because I didn't bother. I ended up having to download drivers onto my iPhone and then figure out some convoluted way to transfer them to the PC, all while wrestling with finding a USB cable and trying to fix a network connection that refused to work because, predictably, I didn't have the network drivers handy. Not even a CD was available.😁

I honestly think it’s a solid OS—definitely a step up from Vista, and lightyears ahead of Windows XP.

Just like they did with Vista, I bet the OEM versions pre-installed on new machines and the big corporate clients will end up "saving" Microsoft.

I've already stumbled upon a few bugs in just the last two days. Hopefully, they actually get them fixed...

If you have a secondary partition, use it to stash all those essential drivers—even the outdated ones for things like modems or motherboards. I didn't even have a disc nearby to fall back on. 😁

I actually use multiple partitions myself... but the point is, I’m planning to build this on a completely fresh machine. I just brought the components home yesterday, and I'm treating myself to the assembly this evening 😁. I'll be tinkering with the setup over the next few days. The plan is to install Windows onto a brand-new 1 TB drive I'm putting in the rig... though, for most of my hardware, I still keep the discs around just in case. 🤷

It’s not like I find it hard to just slap it on there so everyone can see the glory 😛

Taylor Morales31 said:I can't even change my vote in the poll. Just upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 to Windows 7 Ultimate the day before yesterday, and like the guy above mentioned, apparently I have to wait. Honestly, I am not at all impressed by how much you guys—and everyone else—are hyping up Windows 7. Some things are already driving me nuts. And what was the deal with those beta versions where you had that "send feedback" thing? Wasn't the whole point to turn that off so it wouldn't pop up on every single window? Now, when I try to play a video from a folder, instead of it just opening Windows Media Player and playing immediately, Windows 7 just blinks with the WMP icon in the taskbar, forcing me to click the icon just to bring the window up so the video actually starts. Or if I set a music folder to shuffle and set the crossfade to, say, 8 seconds so tracks blend smoothly, it just hits a massive pause until it "remembers" what to play next 😛. Then, if I click a photo in a folder, Windows 7 throws an enlarged preview in a window *behind* everything else instead of in front. I am seriously losing my mind with these RTM releases. Windows XP and Vista were decent enough, but they didn't act like this. And why does this damn taskbar always insist on being at the top? 😛 That’s about as much as I have to say about my "excitement." Forget this whole thing until they actually fix it... if they ever do
.
Edit: And where the hell is the option to minimize WMP down to the system tray like in Windows XP and Vista? It’s gone, isn't it? God, I hate this OS

.

+ Now I'm trying to delete a folder of songs because I lowered the bitrate and moved the smaller files to a different folder, and Windows 7 tells me I need permission because I don't have administrator privileges? Am I not the admin on my own computer? I am actually going to lose it. So then I have to delete the songs one by one until the folder is finally empty enough to delete the directory itself. Unbelievable 😛

For anyone currently rocking—or planning to rock—a Windows 7 machine, you might actually find some value here. It’s a joint effort between Microsoft and the folks over at CNN 👍

HELP!

I'm planning to install Windows 7.
A few questions...

1. Since I have a licensed version of Windows Vista Ultimate, can I upgrade directly? I heard you could do an update over
the internet. If that's true, where do I go?

2. If an online update isn't possible because I'm running dual OSs and want to wipe them both to just have one, is there a way to install via
CD—like a game installer or just a bootable version? Is the process difficult to grasp? I'm not exactly a tech expert. I know how to install Windows XP,
but I've never managed to get Linux working... so, will this be doable? Thanks!

Sub

1. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w.../upgrade?os=xp

2. I guess you could just do a standard installation using a DVD. There are plenty of tutorials out there for that, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. It’s pretty much the same process as installing Windows XP. 🙂

I just finished setting up Windows 7 on my machine, and now I’m running into a wall with VB6. A few things aren't functioning right, and I can't even get the service pack for VB6 to install properly. Does anyone know what the deal is with their compatibility? Maybe there's a specific setting or some extra component I need to add to get this working correctly...
Thanks in advance

I was just sitting here thinking about House M.D.—you know, that show where everyone is basically a genius but also kind of a jerk? Honestly, I can’t stop going back to it. There's just something about that specific brand of cynical, brilliant chaos that hits different. It’s probably the way the whole mystery feels less like a medical procedural and more like a gritty detective noir set in a hospital. I guess I just really vibe with how messy the characters are—they aren't your typical "heroic" doctors, which makes everything feel way more grounded and real. Maybe it's just me, but there's something weirdly comforting about watching someone solve impossible puzzles while being completely unapologetic about their flaws. kaže:
HELP!

So, I'm thinking about installing Windows 7... maybe.
So, I've got a few questions...

So, I was wondering—since I actually bought a legit license for Windows Vista—is it even possible to upgrade from there? I think I heard somewhere that you could maybe do it through...
Is it even actually possible to run an update... I mean, if it is, how do I go about doing that and where do I even start?

So, if it's not working—since I’m running two different OSs right now—and I actually want to wipe them both out just to start fresh with a single one, is there some kind of specific way I should handle the installation? I guess I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up while clearing the slate.
So, I'm thinking about doing this from a disc—either full games or just a bootable version—but honestly, is it going to be a massive headache to set up? I'm definitely not some kind of computer genius or anything, though I did manage to get Windows XP up and running once before.
I’ve never really been able to get the hang of Linux... so, uh, do you think I actually have a shot at making it work? Thanks!

If you can handle Windows XP, you’re basically set—you'll be just fine.
When you're doing the install, I guess you should just go ahead and format those two drives—just wipe whatever OSes you're looking to get rid of.

Hey everyone, I’m a bit lost here. I’ve got an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core setup... blah blah. I have both Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit available. I was planning on going with the 64-bit version, but then I get hit with all this nonsense about how 64-bit is better, followed by explanations that make zero sense to me. Which one actually works better? Does the same logic apply to a Quad-core Intel Core i7? What should I install?

All you really need to do is type Windows 7 32 vs 64 into Google, and you'll get this:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=h...900fa618e092c1

Results 1 - 10 of about 64,100,000 for windows 7 32 vs 64. (0.33 sec.)

My mom just picked up a new laptop running Windows 7, and honestly—she’s completely lost in the new interface (and frankly, so am I). Is there any way to revert the device back to an old-school setup?
I'm talking about getting that classic Start bar back and making everything feel familiar again. Is there a quick fix for this?
Thanks

Either go out and actually learn how to handle this, or just install Windows XP. Honestly, if you’ve got 4GB of RAM, your best bet is to set up XP Mode and just run everything inside that—provided your RAM and processor actually support virtualization...

XP Mode eats through RAM like crazy...

chill with the lectures, they know what xp mode is☕

@quietridge92 if you're struggling with Windows 7, just head back to XP👍

Just gotta make sure all the drivers for Windows XP actually exist first, so I don't end up stuck with nothing. 😁
