Just a heads-up: that trick didn't work for me either. I even called those clowns over at AT&T, and of course, their brilliant solution was—get this—sign a new contract and we'll send you a new router. 🙄 Luckily, I managed to pick up a LAN router myself, so I’m back online, but I have to say to the folks at AT&T— :2up:

So, just so everyone is aware, if anyone else is stuck with that Siemens USB modem and it refuses to cooperate with Windows 7, your only real option is to head down to AT&T or Siemens and throw it at someone's head. 😍

Keith Bennett38 said:He he... I think this discussion went off track because people weren't reading closely. copperhawk19 mentioned he doesn't have a laptop; he's looking for a key combination on a standard desktop PC to adjust speaker volume via the keyboard. Since he doesn't have a media keyboard and uses a classic one without extra function keys (like Media, Play, Paus, Mute, email, etc.), he needs an alternative. 🙂
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful since I've never really run into that issue myself... my keyboard actually has multimedia keys (which I mostly don't use 😉 )

You can find here a list of all the shortcuts for Windows 7, though there isn't anything specifically for adjusting the volume

There is a script available here, so copperhawk19, if you're feeling adventurous and want to experiment???
http://dan.hersam.com/2009/10/28/how...oard-shortcut/

THANKS!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'll try that out later 🙂

Man, I am honestly surprised by how stable my internet is right now...
Back on Windows XP, whenever I tried playing Call of Duty 2... or had too many tabs open while BitTorrent was running in the background, the connection would just drop.
I'm using local wireless through a 4m USB cable, and instead of an antenna, I've got a USB wireless stick wrapped in a plastic bag (to protect it from the humidity and stuff) 🙂
But right now, I'm getting 600kb down and 50 up... with three forum tabs, YouTube, a chat site, and playtoy...
And it's working flawlessly...
I should also mention that my connection hasn't dropped once in over 12 hours, whereas on my freshly installed Windows XP, it used to crash about every 2 hours...
I'm hoping it stays this steady for the rest of the week. 🙏

Taylor Morales31 said:If you happen to have a tune-up program at your disposal—well, you can certainly work your magic from within it!

Where exactly within the Tune up menu am I supposed to find those settings?
So, I was sitting here staring at my task manager—which, let’s be honest, is where most of my productivity goes to die—and I noticed something rather irritating. It seems that Alarm Zone is constantly hovering around the 10% CPU mark. Just sitting there, chewing through resources like it's an all-you-can-eat buffet in Chicago. Is anyone else dealing with this? It feels like a constant, low-level drain on the system that just won't quit.
Is anyone actually using the zlclient? I’m currently stuck running the free version...

So, just so everyone knows, if anyone else is dealing with that General Electric USB modem that refuses to run on Windows 7, your only real option is to take it straight to CNN or General Electric and throw it at someone's head. 😍

The advice works; it's just that in your specific case, neither Compatibility mode nor your modem are cooperating. 😁

I managed to sort this out using a little utility program that isn't really designed for this specific task... but I guess it works well enough....
thanks for providing that link about scripting; I actually ended up finding this thanks to that info.

QUOTING:

"There is not currently a version of SecureClient that supports Windows 7. Additionally, there is not currently a version of SecureClient that supports any 64-bit version of Windows. Our VPN client for 64-bit Windows is called Endpoint Connect. For now, it officially supports Vista x64, but not Windows 7. I have heard reports that it works on 7, but we do not support it. "

Oh, they’re just wonderful. Really top-tier stuff. You’ve got a manufacturer basically saying, "Hey, I heard our product actually works on Win7, but don't quote us on that." It’s like they were too exhausted from doing zero testing to realize Win7 even existed. 🙄What a joke.

Also, how do I stop ZoneAlarm from constantly eating up about 10% of my CPU via the
zlclient process? I'm running the free version...

Which version of TuneUp are you running? 09 or 10? If you're on 09, head over to "Increase Performance," then scroll down to the "TuneUp Startup Manager." Just switch everything you don't want launching at boot from a green dot to a gray dot, hit refresh in the top left, and you're done. If you have TuneUp 2010, click "Increase Performance" in the middle option on the first page, select "All Functions," then go to "Configure System Start" near the end. Same deal: flip those green dots to gray for anything you don't need starting up, hit refresh up top, and exit. As for ZoneAlarm, I wouldn't know—I don't use it. Anyone else out there actually use that thing?

Seriously, which soft-headed designer decided to put an Fn key on desktop keyboards just so we could deal with this kind of nonsense? It’s absolute stupidity!

Hey guys, I don't want to clutter the board with another thread, but how reliable is a cracked version of Windows 7? Also, where can I grab one and what's the damage to my wallet?
Really focusing on the reliability part here.

I’m not even burning anything because my fryer isn't even working 🤣

and as far as I know, there hasn't been any discussion about it on the forum, according to the rules... 👍

I was playing around for a week and then I went
image
when I stumbled upon
image.

I decided to check out how it calculates the hardware configuration score, only to find it gives individual ratings for: image

but the final overall score is actually just the lowest single rating:
image.

It’s just like when you're at a job interview and they tell you, "You're the weakest link." 😬

Honestly, that was the most useless version of Windows I've ever dealt with. I swapped it out for XP the second I could, though I have to admit, Linux is actually pretty solid.

Anonymous said:Hey everyone.
I’ve run into a bit of a snag... I installed the OS about 40 days ago. Everything was running smoothly, but a few days back I hit a black screen with a message saying my Windows isn't genuine. To be fair, that's accurate since I picked it up from some guy on Craigslist... Anyway, when I first got this laptop, it came with Vista-business pre-installed, but I wiped that immediately because it was just way too slow for my liking...🙂 Now it's asking me for a product key. Everything else seems to be working fine, though.
A buddy of mine mentioned there might be a workaround for this... (not really looking to drop serious cash on an official license right now). If anyone happens to know how to handle this, I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance!

I see you weren't at the Vista conference where they were also doing evaluations. For what it's worth, I gave the aero setup a 3.4 at the lowest—look, as long as I've got the aero advantage, that's all that matters to me!

Hey there.

I don't want to hijack this thread... but can I just ask one quick thing?

How do I sort files in a folder on Windows 7 exactly the way I want them?

Thanks!

Could you give me an example of the "problem" you're having? I'm not quite sure what you mean.
