stormycanyon4, our resident IT genius, don't let this get to you. Just go put on some makeup for the reception. Leave levelheaded alone; he's just a kid and hasn't learned any manners yet...
We'll sort out your issue tomorrow afternoon over on the Chat

The drivers are installed and the webcam works fine on Skype, but where on earth is it located in the Control Panel?

darkviper7 said:Check under Devices and Printers.

There's no webcam listed in
Devices and Printers, and in Device Manager, it looks like this. Is the webcam actually that Lexmark X422?
I tried using the drivers (HP ProBook 4515) from
this website (), but nothing changed.
At the end of the day—the camera works, I just can't find it in the Control Panel. 😬

HNY 2010.

And you think you can determine age by post count? That’s a slight improvement, I suppose, but still flawed. 🙄

No, it appears that resolving this Microsoft debacle is actually the priority here, because that's where the core issue lies—there is no Self Repair like we had back in the XP days!
The world will essentially grind to a halt by tomorrow afternoon, and frankly, this simply cannot wait!

Besides, there's that old adage from my younger days: "Never put off until tomorrow what you can accomplish today!" 😉

And a very Happy New Year to you too!

I am not getting worked up. 🙂

I'm gonna crush him while my hair dries. I have zero interest in hunting for fixes or messing around with workarounds.

This isn't Linux. 🙄 When it comes to Windows, I expect it to fix its own damn problems—otherwise, it's useless. 🥳

This isn't Linux. 🙄 When you pay for Windows, you expect the OS to actually handle its own problems, or at least exist when you need it. 🥳

😂 it's all just nonsense....

Just tell it straight—that pathetic excuse for an operating system 🤣needs to start following orders.

Anyway, goodbye... you people are incredibly dull. I'm heading out to a reception, so feel free to keep playing games here. 🤣

edit: It honestly baffles me how these self-proclaimed "experts" can complain without ever having suggested a single fix to Microsoft during their week of testing. You know, like using the actual "send feedback" feature?! Good grief...

Just be polite and tell him he needs to listen—that’s one poor soul among many struggling with Windows 🤣

Whatever. You guys aren't interesting. I'm heading out to a party, enjoy playing yourselves 🤣

edit: It honestly baffles me how these self-proclaimed "experts" show up, yet never bothered suggesting actual fixes to Microsoft while testing it for a week. You know, that lovely little "send feedback" button? Just wow...

It also baffles me when people show up here to act like geniuses without even knowing how to fill out their own profile correctly.😛

Ah, my apologies. Looking at your profile, you're a woman.😁 😁 😁
Go paint your nails and head to some wild party filled with reckless kids.

Look, I get that you're trying to be helpful, but you're totally missing the point. Everything on that Recovery disc is already sitting right there on my installation DVD—I've tried it all. It’s useless to me. What I actually need is a way to have the setup automatically repair my current installation by swapping out the system files while leaving my programs and data completely untouched—exactly how you could do it back with Windows XP.

None of those features exist here, and none of these other workarounds are doing a damn thing for me. I didn't have any Restore points set up. And a backup image? No way—I'm not doing that, especially since it would require 27 GB 😲 of space just to stash the image on another partition—Acronis True Image can't cram all that onto a single DVD. As for the Recovery console... why on earth would I bother messing with that too?

Bottom line: they took one genuinely great feature, tossed it out, and replaced it with a bunch of junk that’s pretty much worthless when your system is actually crashing.

The drive's already been formatted and the backup is tucked away in ASZ, so honestly, a Microsoft employee should be embarrassed for pulling such a stupid move.

I made it quite clear in one of my earlier posts that it is absolutely disgraceful to charge such massive amounts of money for software that is demonstrably imperfect. And I’m not just talking about this specific release, but all of them—just think back to the endless Blue Screens of Death we endured on Windows 98 or Windows XP, not to mention the constant stream of patches and countless SP updates.
It is entirely plausible they assumed these kinds of extreme failures wouldn't happen often, given that (let's be honest) this is the most advanced system they've ever engineered. Consequently, they failed to account for the necessity of a more "straightforward" Self Repair option. But then again, what does our opinion as users actually matter? 😉
Personally, I haven't had any need for it during these first three months of use. However, my Recovery disc is ready, so if things go sideways—well, then we'll see.

In any event, I hope the instructions on how to promptly create a Recovery disc prove useful to those who weren't even aware that such an option existed! 🙂

Let’s get one thing straight: Windows XP isn't Windows 7. You won't find that functionality in Windows Vista or Windows 7 because the core installation architecture is fundamentally different. With an XP install, you're basically extracting .cab files into specific directories. But with Windows Vista and Windows 7? Everything changed; they use a single, massive image file deployment. There are countless advantages to doing it this way.
The whole way we handle deployment and backups for Vista and Windows 7 has been overhauled from the ground up. Honestly, it's your own fault for not looking into how these newer systems actually work.

Just install your OS, get all your programs running, and then run a full backup. No need for Microsoft or any of that other junk.

🙂 Look, I get it. Everyone is busy, stressed, and short on time, but one really ought to be—as I have maintained before—properly educated. It is basic common sense. 1.1. is
I haven't said a single word about anything other than the Windows 7 Recovery disc. If this information proves useful or helpful to someone, fine. If not... well, good God, let's just move on. Let’s stay upbeat and avoid unnecessary agitation.

I need some serious help here. So, I just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate yesterday and man, it’s awesome—even with just 512MB of RAM, the thing flies and doesn't lag at all, even when I've cluttered it up with all my usual junk xD. But there's a huge catch: it won't recognize my modem, so I'm totally cut off from the internet. I tried setting up a broadband connection, but nothing is working. Can anyone help me out? Also, Happy New Year 2010!

Oh, so we're talking about Sagem now... interesting.

I honestly don't know. Perhaps someone else might actually be able to provide some insight based on such incredibly thin data, but I’ve already provided the link. If you can't find what you're looking for there—and from the looks of it, it simply doesn't exist—then you're facing a much more straightforward reality: you either swap out the modem or you upgrade the OS. It's really that binary.

Here it is again, just in case: hardware > networking: Modems

Bravo! The important thing is that you figured it all out and found the solution yourself. 👍

Na XPI used to be able to enable that "show desktop" icon right on my Taskbar, which let me jump straight to my desktop with just one click, but now... seven weeks I have to right-click on the Taskbar first before I can even select "show the desktop." 😢
Is there any way to add a shortcut, or am I stuck with just this one other option?
