One quick click and—boom—I was straight to the desktop! But now, everything feels different... Seven weeks! Can you believe it? Just seven weeks! Time really does fly when you aren't looking, doesn't it? It’s just flying by! Seven weeks on the calendar, gone, poof! Gone! So, here's the deal! First thing you gotta do is right-click on the Taskbar, and then—only then—can you actually hit "show The desktop"! Simple as that! 😢
Can you actually add a shortcut, or am I stuck with just this one other option?

Take a look at your Taskbar! Way over on the far right side, there’s that little square button—you know the one—it's labeled "show desktop."

But now, it seems to have vanished entirely. It has been seven weeks. Seven long, grueling weeks of watching everything crumble while we sit here waiting for a resolution that feels increasingly like a mirage. I find myself forced into a tedious little ritual: I have to right-click the Taskbar first, and only then am I permitted to select "show The desktop." It’s an utterly unnecessary extra step that serves no purpose other than to irritate me. 😢
Is there any way to actually insert a shortcut, or am I stuck with this one other option?

👍 Visually speaking, this is a far superior solution. With just a minor mouse movement, you can see the desktop through the translucent outlines of your active windows. If you actually click the button, however, the windows minimize instantly—and clicking it again brings them right back. It’s much more intuitive.

Hey everyone... I’ve been digging through the minimum system requirements for Win7 lately, and honestly, the information is all over the place—some sites claim you need 512MB of RAM while others insist on at least 1GB... Now, the amount of memory isn't my main headache here; I'm currently sitting at 512MB, but I have another 1GB arriving very soon... My real concern is whether this whole thing is just going to be a stuttering, laggy mess once it's actually running. Some guy who handed me the installation disc swore it would work fine on my setup... I'm running a 3.0 Dual Core with 128MB of video memory... and for storage, I've got one 30GB drive and another 40GB one... Is it even worth attempting this with just 512MB, or should I just hold off until that extra RAM arrives before I even bother trying to install it? Thanks. 👍

If you've got the RAM on hand, just go ahead and install it now—then I can swing by later and grab the old sticks from you.
Upgrading your RAM shouldn't cause any issues at all, regardless of which OS you're running.
Though, if I'm being honest, I probably wouldn't bother putting Win7 on a setup this weak.
Mainly because, well, first off, Windows is going to eat up a huge chunk of that 30GB drive—maybe not the whole thing, but it’ll definitely gobble up half of it right out of the gate.
Look, just give it a shot and see how it feels for yourself.

Alright, thanks. I’ll give it a shot—but if this turns into a complete disaster, I’m reverting straight back to XP... honestly, if I can just slap some more RAM in there, then we're golden. And look, I actually agree with STARS here—the guy's got a point... even the dude who handed me this CD is running Win7 on a measly 512MB of RAM 👍

EDIT: I'm going to format the old drive and just blast Win7 onto it... I've got a secondary hard drive too, so I can probably just move my backups over there to make sure I don't lose any files while I'm messing around with this, right??

Quick question about Windows 7:
I'm running Windows 7 on my PC right now... I want to set up a second operating system alongside it to run some older programs that don't support Windows 7 yet. The issue is, Windows 7 isn't playing nice with my plans. My BIOS settings on this Windows 7 build aren't looking like they did back when I used Windows XP, where I could just toggle off protection to install a different OS. I know I could just wipe everything and install the other OS first followed by Windows 7, but does anyone know how to do this directly without a total wipe?
thanks

If you’re running Professional or Ultimate, you should probably just grab Windows XP Mode.
It lets you run XP right from inside Windows 7

Hey there. I was just wondering if I could actually get Windows 7 up and running on my current rig - here's what I'm working with: an Intel Celeron

running at 1.80GHz with 2GB of RAM
(it's got Physical Address Extension)

and an Nvidia GeForce 9600 gSo with 512MB of DDR2!!

If anyone could help me out and let me know if this PC can handle Windows 7... I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I’d really appreciate some help figuring out if Windows 7 will work on this machine... thanks.

I see absolutely no reason why you couldn't! The only real headache you might run into is if you're using some outdated peripherals—think old modems or specific Wi-Fi cards—where the manufacturer has completely abandoned driver support. I ran into that exact issue myself with a digital TV card for my laptop that refuses to function on anything newer than Windows XP, but honestly, given what those things cost, it wasn't a massive loss.😁

It's definitely not all brand new stuff! I've still got DDR2 RAM lying around and a Gigabyte GA-MA69WM-S2 motherboard 😁 heheh, and my modem is a Sony Bravia 🙂

In that case, there shouldn't be any issues at all—just get behind the wheel and drive. 🙂 After all, Windows will automatically run its own compatibility checks during the Setup process anyway.

Go ahead!

heheh alright, awesome... I was actually kind of worried it might hang up on me since my processor isn't "dual" core or anything, so I figured maybe 🤷

Oh, one more thing—do you think I'd be able to play anything on it if I end up using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit? Just asking because I already have the installation media sitting right here.

brisktrucker85 said:Haha, fantastic. Honestly, I was sitting here thinking there was no way it would actually work—I figured since my processor doesn't have that "dual" capability, it would just fall flat on its face. 🤷

Joshua Garcia3 posted the minimum requirements over by the processor specs—it says 1GHz minimum, which means we’re perfectly fine.

brisktrucker85 said:And what else? If I actually manage to get this thing running on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit—since I already have the installation media sitting right here—would I even be able to play anything on it?

The question at hand concerns which specific games—considering the demographic of those actually playing them (myself excluded, of course)—are truly worth the investment. It’s a matter of analyzing the player base versus the actual substance of the software. 😁 They’re claiming that Windows 7 is generally acting up on them. 🤷 Surely there shouldn't be any issues running that on a 32-bit version of Windows, right? It’s practically a given at this point.

Take a look at this. I am currently present on these web pages. I have an explanation for you.

So, here I am with Windows 7 all installed and ready to go, hehe... everything seems to be working fine—I even tossed in the activation code... (cd key)—but man, it feels like things are lagging just a tiny bit? Like, when I try to open Google or jump into My Computer, it feels kind of sluggish. It honestly felt way snappier back on Windows XP than it does on 7. Any idea why that might be happening? Is there some way to fix this or make it run smoother?

Maybe it's because of this, haha. 😁

I mean, it's definitely less demanding than Windows Vista, but it still asks for more from your hardware than XP did. Which browser are you using, Internet Explorer or Mozilla? 🙂

Hi

I have some version of Windows 7 that includes certain graphics software...
So I was wondering if it's possible to skip the software installation when I switch operating systems, since the stuff included with Windows is outdated compared to the specific software I actually need to use.😕😕

Maybe just grab a clean installation of Windows 7 that doesn't come loaded with all that extra bloatware. 🙂

In the meantime, I'd suggest uninstalling any programs you aren't actually using, including that graphics software. 🙂

I have a quick question about how to stretch a low-res image to fit my monitor's resolution in Windows 7.
Basically, I'm trying to figure out how to take an 800x600 image and stretch it up to 1280x1024.
