I've been looking into those DreamScene wallpapers, but I'm starting to think they aren't actually compatible with Windows 7; it seems like that feature was strictly reserved for Windows Vista.☕

Also, maybe try using a bit more proper grammar when you type.🤦

Does anyone happen to know how I can set up a password in Windows?

You know, just the standard stuff—where I turn on my computer and it actually asks me for a password before letting me in.

Go to Control Panel -> User accounts, and you can just set your password right there in your account settings. That’s your standard Windows password—if you're looking for that specific prompt that hits you the second you boot the machine, you'll need to mess with the BIOS settings instead.

Thanks.😉 (I was just sitting here being a total goofball, watching something completely random)

and maybe learn how to actually type properly...🤦

Look, I'll write however the hell I want, and you should probably go figure out how to get DreamScene running on 7 right now... seriously...

By the time you realize that it’s actually more decent to communicate on an American forum using standard English rather than all these abbreviations and teenage slang, you'll finally understand that people are much more likely to actually answer your questions if you stop trying so hard to act cool...

Nobody is forcing you to be a scholar, but when you try this hard to show off, you're basically just pushing away anyone who might actually want to help you. 🤷

When Jonathan Morris40 starts riding you about your grammar, you know you're in real trouble.😁

Does anyone know why Aero is slowing down my computer? It’s actually dragging my Java programs to a crawl. What am I missing here? Do I need more GHz on my processor, more RAM, or something else entirely?

It would always be incredibly helpful if you could share whatever hardware configuration you're currently running 🙂

The only good Java is uninstalled Java. And the only decent Java programs are the ones you haven't installed yet. I kid you not.

Two gigs of RAM isn't nearly enough. You should check which processes are eating up most of your memory...

Look, I'm running on 2GB of RAM myself. Personally, I don't think it's too little—though sure, more wouldn't hurt—but it isn't strictly necessary, at least for a 32-bit system. Then again, it really just depends on what you're actually doing on your PC.

man, I seriously hate it when someone pops up out of nowhere just to bark about how 2GB of RAM isn't enough for a week

you clearly have no clue what you're talking about

Jonathan Sanders said:Two gigs of RAM? That’s nowhere near enough. Seriously, why struggle like that? You really ought to take a look at what's actually eating up all your memory.

Right now, my RAM usage is sitting at 45%. I’ve got about 797 MB in use and 970 MB available. At the moment, I have seven tabs open in Firefox, a Java program running, some other software in the background, and the Resource Monitor open so I can keep an eye on everything. These are the main culprits eating up my memory—Firefox is using the most, followed by Java, then a few svchost processes. Everything is running smoothly for now, but honestly, if I were to turn on Aero right now, wouldn't the whole system start feeling sluggish?

Hey, does Aero slow down your programs too?

Unlike you, who obviously has plenty of it.

Does Aero actually slow things down for you?

Honestly, 2 GB should be plenty for Windows 7. Maybe you're just stuck with a weak graphics card? That might be what's messing with you. 🙂
Check your system rating and see which part is dragging. Control Panel

Aero isn't slowing me down at all. I'm running an HD3200 (256MB), which pulls from my system RAM anyway—between that and the shared memory allocation, I’ve officially got 1.75GB of usable RAM available due to that reserved chunk

If you're seeing issues, it sounds more like a driver conflict or something else entirely to me, unless your GPU is even weaker than mine. Personally, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x86 3.3, and Aero runs just fine

Check your system rating and see which score is lagging behind. Check the Control Panel

I've got an Radeon HD 4200. My lowest score is a 4—specifically for Graphics: Desktop performance for Windows Aero.
Everything else is scoring above a 5, though.

Well, it looks like someone actually decided to show up with some common sense and a decent education for once. 🙂 😂

On a side note, two gigs is plenty if you're just trying to get through a standard work week... I've managed to limp along on a mere half-gig without any major issues myself. Granted, it's certainly slower than running Windows XP, but it doesn't crash...
