Everything else, though, scored above a 5.

Look, you’re scoring higher simply because your GPU is faster than mine. If my Aero wasn't stuttering, yours shouldn't be either. Just tell me: was that lag there immediately after a clean install of a fresh version of Windows, or did it start creeping in over time?

It's been stuttering from the very start. I don't clutter my PC with unnecessary programs, games, or any other junk—I keep it lean to ensure it stays fast and conflict-free. Honestly, I mostly notice the lag when running Java programs; everything else seems fine.
Guess I'll just keep Aero turned off then.

Jonathan Morris40 said:...a sensible, articulate individual finally weighed in. 🙂 😂

On another note, 2 gigs is plenty for basic weekly tasks. I ran it on 512 MB of RAM without much trouble. Slower than Windows XP, sure, but no crashes...

Oh, come on, Morris40. 😍

By the way, 2 gigs might not even be enough for his needs. All we know about this issue is that he thinks Windows Aero is slowing him down while some Java app runs in the background. Experience tells me two things: 1) nobody knows what kind of bloatware or background services are eating his RAM, and 2) nobody knows what that specific app actually does. Java is inherently problematic, and most apps built for it are borderline nonsensical. Memory leaks are practically a feature in those types of applications...

Now, you can act like an expert and claim you aren't being aggressive here, but your posts make it obvious you're just looking for a fight. You think if you shout loud enough, you'll convince the crowd you're right. It works on people who don't know better. I'm not one of them. 😉

I seem to remember my Java acting up whenever I’d hit a site like speedtest.net—you know, those ones that require Java just to run a basic test? Every time, there’s this sudden, minor stutter. Nothing catastrophic, really. Personally, I wouldn't go disabling Windows Aero right out of the gate, though I have no idea how much you actually rely on Java for your setup. If I were you, I’d just try disabling it temporarily as a test run, then see if Aero starts behaving itself better.

And look, let's be real: 2GB of RAM isn't going to cut it for everyone. It all depends on what you're doing and which specific programs or games you're throwing at it.🙂

I don't get what part of this is confusing,

The screenshot looks like garbage, but you'll see it actually runs on 1GB of RAM. I'd give it a 3.7 out of 10.

Look, I think you might be struggling to grasp the situation here:

Back to basics:

Jonathan Sanders said:On a side note, 2GB doesn't necessarily mean he's set for the week. All we know so far is that he thinks Windows Aero is slowing him down while some random Java app runs in the background. My experience tells me two things: 1) there's no telling what he's got installed or how many background processes are eating his RAM, and 2) there's no telling what that specific app even is. Java is a headache on its own, and most apps built for it are just poorly designed... Memory leaks are practically a feature in those types of applications.

👋

P.S. When you take a screenshot in Windows 7, just use the Snipping Tool. It’s much easier than the whole copy-paste routine in MS Paint, and you won't end up with all that extra white space on the edges.

Can we please dial back the constant bickering and flaming? Let's just stick to the topic at hand!

Look, if you two can't get along, just take it to Instant Messaging or settle it over a beer!

Let's try this instead. Maybe try uninstalling Java and see if that changes anything.
I think I read somewhere that people were mostly having issues if they installed some kind of beta version of Java. But hey, don't quote me on that.
Just try ditching Java for a bit and see if it helps. You can always reinstall it later. 🙂

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't have any personal vendettas here. What I do have is zero patience for people talking nonsense because they either have no clue or they completely misunderstood the facts. Posts like that just spread ignorance and misinformation, leading everyone else astray. It’s even worse when people start attacking those who actually know what they're talking about—people with real-world experience. Instead of actually reading and learning something...

When I say 2GB isn't enough for work (see: Python applications), I'm not just talking to hear myself talk. I'm trying to help someone solve a problem. All this noise from kids claiming a single gigabyte of RAM is plenty? That's just pure stupidity. For me, 512MB is useless and 4GB is often too little. It all depends on the workload and how many processes you're running simultaneously...

It's hard to believe the US tech industry was ever this lenient toward people spreading such blatant misinformation...

Try pulling Python off the system and see if anything improves. You can always just reinstall it later. 🙂

I'm not running any beta version of Python. I already uninstalled it, grabbed the latest release, and still nothing. Maybe I really could use another gig or two of RAM, but it's fine—for now, I'll just keep Aero turned off. Honestly, I care way more about speed than looking pretty. 🙂

Jonathan Sanders said:Look, if I’m telling someone 2 gigs isn't enough for actual work—like running a heavy Java app—I’m not just talking out of my ass. I'm actually trying to help them fix their damn problem. But then you get these kids jumping all over the place, acting like a single gig of RAM is plenty? Please. That's just pure stupidity. For me, whether it's 512 MB or 4 GB, it doesn't matter—if it's not enough for what I'm running, it's not enough. It all depends on the workload.

It’s honestly wild how relaxed the IT community used to be before people like these two started spouting this nonsense.

Since I can see Douglas Garcia52 actually has a brain, I’ll try to be super polite here—mostly just so I don't get banned.

When you're talking about running Windows 10, how much RAM you need totally depends on what software you're throwing at it. Obviously, you're gonna need more if you're doing pro-level video editing or something similar.

But you can't just claim 2GB is too little for Windows 10 until you've actually tried running it on 1GB and seen everything working perfectly smoothly. Only then do you get a say in the matter.

Peace out 😉

Basically, if a system has more RAM to play with, it’s just going to be more reckless with how it allocates resources, I guess... 👍

yeah, exactly, but you can't exactly go around proving that to everyone

the OS just grabs whatever RAM it needs—well, whatever it can get its hands on

On my old Dell laptop, everything runs perfectly even with less than 1 GB of RAM available.

Heh, who exactly is doing the judging here? Is it just the OS itself? Regardless, it doesn't crash, freeze, or cause any issues. Mind you, I don't perform heavy audio/video editing or anything particularly demanding on my machine.

for just surfing the web, watching movies, and listening to music, it's plenty, really.😉

So, I've got this Acer eMachine E529. It used to run Linux, but now it's on Windows 7, and the internet is being a total pain. It connects just fine, but the second I try to actually load a page—like trying to log into Facebook—the connection just snaps. I read somewhere that this is a known issue with Windows 7, but honestly, I’m tech-illiterate and have zero clue how to fix this. Mooooollease help/advice/suggestions.

Thanks 🙂

E Series | Product Serie ; one model runs Linux, while the other uses Windows 7 🙂

Check here to find your specific notebook. Select the correct Windows 7 version and download your wireless lan driver 😉

Here. Track down your notebook model, pick the right version of Windows 7, and just grab the wireless lan driver. Simple as that. 😉

Everything's working perfectly. 🙂 Thanks a ton.
