Taylor Morales31 said:It doesn't necessarily mean that. For me, a handful of these games actually run better on Windows 7 drivers than they do with the latest Catalyst updates... I guess maybe Catalyst is just less aggressive, though you probably have to tweak things manually in Catalyst, whereas with generic drivers you don't really have those options....

And since it hit my resolution perfectly on the first try, I've ditched Catalyst for now....

By the way, is your PC hooked up to a TV? 🙂

So, what about everything else? Can I pull that off? And hey, can we just move this to DMs so I don't get flagged by the mods?

Well, I'm not entirely sure myself, though I have a feeling he actually lays it all out right there in his post, doesn't he? Everything else aside... ☕

It’s an HP laptop,

Back when I was running Windows XP or Windows Vista, I actually had to manually adjust things because the default was stuck at 1024x768. Now, I don't have to deal with that, and honestly, I prefer this way. But hey, computers are strange—every single machine is its own unique little beast... heh

Edit: Also, since my HD3200 supposedly has those issues with 2D performance on Catalyst drivers, I used to have to tweak settings just to stop the screen from stuttering while scrolling through pages. Using this generic driver here, though? Zero issues whatsoever....

That's why I'm saying it really comes down to the specific hardware you're rocking and whether you actually need the extra software or not. Take audio, for example: I definitely install the full driver package because it gives me access to the built-in equalizers and lets me swap input/output settings whenever I want. If you don't install the dedicated driver, you lose all that control by default. Some people skip the driver installation entirely, but it's really just a matter of personal preference... there you go...

So, I ran my rig through that benchmark site—you know the one—and it clocked me in at a 5.1. Honestly, I’m sitting here wondering if that’s actually decent or just a polite way of saying it’s mediocre... because, let’s be real, considering what I dropped on this setup, I was definitely expecting a clean ten out of ten, haha.

man I'm just messing with you a little bit 😲

but seriously, what am I supposed to do with this 5.1 setup to get it up to a 7.99? 😂🙏

Should I try flattering it or something?

It helps if you burn it to a CD and set it to loop. Just leave it running overnight—you’ll see a guaranteed 0.5 bump by morning 🙂

you could always just slap some more RAM in there, that'll bump the value up, 👍
mine sits at a 3.7 with 1GB of RAM, but over at Best Buy they've got one with 2GB listed for 4.5—back when it only had 1GB, they were asking like 2.9

Honestly, just drop about $150 or $200 on a solid SSD and you might see that score jump up past a 7.☕

I wonder why it’s sitting at a 5.1... if you just click on the rating, it shows you all the individual scores, so you can actually see what's dragging it down.

I’m sitting at a 3.7 with 1GB of RAM, but over at Zeta's place they've got a 4.5 with 2GB (which is funny because back when they only had 1GB, the rating was stuck at 2.9)

haha, I actually have 4GB of RAM lol, though it feels kind of low... I mean, a rig that cost like $7,000 should probably run pretty smooth, right??

I actually had a 7000 series myself, so I ended up sitting at a 5.9 because my hard drive just drags everything down with its low score.

I mean, what kind of gear are you even running?? I'm rocking a Dell Studio line myself...

My GPU score was a measly 3.7 at its lowest point.
I just picked up a brand new asus eah4350 silent, ddr2 512 mb pci-e a few months back
everything else scored higher than that.

My score just took a massive hit, dropping from a 4.9 down to a 3.9. LOL, honestly, why should I even bother stressing over it? As long as the damn thing actually works, it's fine. Once it finally dies on me and hits a 7.9, no score in the world is going to save it. heh

edit: Okay, scratch that, the score is back up to 4.7 now. It might even climb toward a 7 after I run a few more tests. Looks like I'm making progress—hold on a second, hahahaha

I noticed my graphics score actually jumped up by about 0.1 after I installed those latest drivers 👍
