uh, sorry sir, but there's no such thing as 86-bit 😂

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this "Windows Old" folder left over after I reinstalled Windows 7? I messed something up while trying to run a backup, so I had to reinstall everything, but now that folder is just sitting there on my C: drive and won't let me delete it. To make matters worse, every time I boot up my computer, it asks me to choose between two versions of Windows, as if the old one was never even wiped out...

I figured I’d ask here because I don't think this is actually a browser issue.
So, for about a month now, websites just aren't loading right—sometimes I have to hit refresh three times before everything on a page actually renders properly. My ISP is Xfinity (could be an issue on their end, honestly, who knows). I'm running Windows 7 with Firefox and Internet Explorer on my desktop, and the exact same thing happens on my laptop—I share the connection via a router—whereas everything used to run perfectly smooth back when I was using Windows XP.
I seem to recall there being some setting in XP that used to throttle connection speeds, but back then, broadband was just starting to become a thing, so it wasn't really a big deal.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Two versions of Windows??

-Computer, go to properties, then advanced system settings, system properties, advanced, and then on that same tab hit settings under startup and recovery. You'll get to system startup, and you need to uncheck—not the first box, but the second one—time to display.

As for that Windows Old mess, I actually cleared mine out when I downloaded a Windows 7 customization pack. Just grab something like that and you should find it buried in the settings somewhere—I can't remember the exact path, honestly—but you can just do that and it'll automatically wipe out those double Windows entries for you.

If you right-click on your C: drive, go into Properties, and then select Disk Cleanup, you should be able to find what you need.

Once that window opens, look for the option labeled Previous Windows Installations—that should do the trick for you.

I can point out a problem right away—that VIP mouse doesn't have a driver for 64-bit Windows 7. Everything else needed for office work runs fine, and we were hoping to make use of the 4GB of RAM in this laptop... but no, it isn't that simple. 😢
Life always throws you a curveball when you least expect it. 😢

I'm using that same VIP mouse myself, so I guess 64-bit is off the table for now too... 👍

Oh, and I almost forgot—cheers to our VIP, may his sarcasm live forever.

So, is the VIP stick really not working on Windows 7 x64? Are we sure about that? 😕
I mean, who even manufactures that thing? 😁

I wasted my damn time messing around with an AT&T driver—it works fine on 32-bit, but on 64-bit? Absolute nothingburger.

Well, Chinese manufacturers, I guess. Or maybe not. It’s usually just whatever is cheapest. 🙂

The VIP models are just rebranded ZTE and Huawei hardware; they look identical on the outside, even if the branding says Verizon,
but this thing won't work on 64-bit systems, nor does it play nice with Telac—I have no clue who actually manufactures those,
it’s honestly ridiculous to go through the whole ordeal of upgrading your entire OS and tweaking everything just to get online, only to realize you're stuck because your only way onto the web is via a USB stick that doesn't work. Then what's the point? What good is having a high-end OS or 256-bit processing if you're totally cut off from the world? You're basically useless. I mean, seriously... 👎

I mean, that actually feels a bit weird to me. We aren't talking about some sketchy, bottom-tier brands here, and the gear isn't even ancient. I totally get why HP wouldn't bother writing drivers for 64-bit Windows for a printer that's been sitting around for ten years, but these sticks? They're relatively new and still being manufactured, so the fact that they lack support is just bizarre to me. 😕

On my machine, it wasn't even a driver issue—Windows sees the hardware just fine, everything looks good on paper, the device is recognized, all five of them too—everything seems totally normal... but it can't connect to the internet to save its life. I mean, it’s absolutely useless. 🙂

Actually, it’s not surprising... just grab a new one for $50 and it will probably work... our current model is from a couple of years ago... or you could just get that WiFi router, which acts as an HSDPA modem and an access point for your computer so you can connect "wirelessly." 😁

Everything is designed to drive "new sales."

So, I’ve run into a bit of a headache. I just picked up a new Dell Inspiron, and it arrived totally bare—no operating system installed at all. I thought, "No biggie, I've got my own installers lying around at home," but things aren't going quite as planned. For some reason, none of them seem to want to boot up on this machine, even though they work perfectly fine on my desktop back at the house. The only one that actually makes a move is Windows XP, but even then, it's being temperamental. As soon as it tries to start the actual installation process, I get hit with a Blue Screen of Death. It's super frustrating! As for Windows 7, it won't even attempt to launch (and honestly, it's not an official version anyway). Does anyone have any advice on how to troubleshoot this? Am I stuck having to go out and buy a legitimate copy of Windows 7, or is there a way to actually get Windows XP running on this laptop? I much prefer sticking with XP if I can help it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same model, and Windows 7 runs flawlessly on it. You can also run Windows XP Service Pack 3, provided you have the correct SATA driver. My guess is that your XP installer lacks the necessary SATA drivers. As for why Windows 7 isn't booting, I suspect the installation media itself is the culprit—it could be a bad burn, a corrupted image, or some other issue with how the drive was created.

Hey, where can I actually track down this version? Do you know of a reliable torrent for it? Also, does it come with standard Windows XP Service Pack 3, or am I going to need some special edition for that

1. Grab yourself some legitimate Windows 🙂
2. If you pick up an old version of Windows XP that doesn't come with SATA drivers pre-installed, just head into your laptop's BIOS and disable the SATA Native mode—or whatever that specific setting is called depending on whether you're running an HP or a Dell.
