You should probably go with Home & Business, the retail version here in the States is actually cheaper and runs about $433.
There's a little trick where you can install that one on both a desktop and a laptop, provided the same person is using them, so definitely see if that helps you out.

I dealt with a similar setup at a previous company, and we ended up being pretty smart about it—we just bought Office for one main machine and put LibreOffice on the other two since it's totally fine for (most) basic tasks. 😉

Just keep in mind that Home & Student is meant for non-commercial use, and you're allowed to install it on up to three different computers in your household.

Thanks so much. So, I'll go with a professional version of Office for the office setup. Since my home setup is just for personal use, I can stick with LibreOffice or OpenOffice on the other computers—or maybe even grab that Ashampoo suite for $15 or whatever the current price is.

I have an issue, unrelated to this specific thread, regarding Word... I download a book from the internet onto my computer, but when I try to open it with Office 2007, a "File Conversion" window pops up. I have no idea how to fix this so the text actually displays correctly so I can read the book. Instead, it just opens a mess of strange characters and numbers. If anyone can help, please let me know.

Are you absolutely certain that the book is actually in Word format? I mean—honestly—that sounds highly improbable to me.

Can I use some kind of Office program to edit text that's stuck in a PDF?
I've got these scanned invoices I need to tweak (don't ask me why)

Nah, especially if you're dealing with a scan. You’d really need something like Photoshop for that kind of stuff.

I'm not sure... I downloaded a few poker books and they all open like this. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. How are books actually supposed to be downloaded so they open properly in Word?

Why on earth do you need—or feel compelled—to open them specifically in Word? 😕

Take a look at the file extension; check how Windows identifies it (basically, what its "type" is)—that determines which specific program will actually display it correctly.

Then again, maybe the fact that you can't even get those poker books to open is just some sign from the universe telling you to stay far away from the poker table entirely? 😁

Check the filename. Look at how Windows identifies it—its file type. That determines which program will actually display it correctly.

Then again, maybe the reason you can't open those poker books is just fate telling you to stay away from the game.😁

It looks like it's in PDF format... how do I open that? Sorry if I sound clueless... and I don't play poker anyway... haha

if I can find a way to flip that PDF into a format that isn't a total nightmare to edit, I'm just gonna print it out again anyway😉

You could probably take that grocery list for the lasagna and try moving it over to Microsoft Office:
http://www.investintech.com/prod_a2d.htm

It’s always fun to give it a shot, I guess, but honestly? No program is ever going to give you a 1 on 1 perfect replica. They all end up messing something up during the conversion process.

Sure, you can mess around with it if you're bored, but don't expect any of these programs to give you a perfect, pixel-for-pixel replica. They always end up screwing something up during the conversion process.

alright thanks

Is it possible to embed a PowerPoint presentation directly into my HTML code while I'm working in Notepad?
Do I have to take screenshots of every single slide and just insert them as images, or is there a better way?
I mean, can I actually embed the file in its native PPT format so that when someone opens the page in, say, Chrome, they see an interactive presentation rather than just a bunch of static pictures?

So I was working on a page of text, hit the X, and then instead of actually saving my work, I accidentally clicked "no" when the prompt popped up...
Is there any way to get that document back? 😢😢😢😢😢

So, here’s the situation: I’ve got a presentation due tomorrow
And look, I’ll get the work done, obviously, but
since I have absolutely zero desire to actually stand up there and present—because, frankly, the motivation just isn't there—does anyone know how I can sabotage the delivery so badly that my professor decides they don't want me presenting at all?
Is there any way to make it look like I put in the effort first, only to have everything "accidentally" fall apart during the actual speech?
Is that even a possibility?!

if you're using an old version of Word at school, just save that file as a .docx instead of .doc so it works with the newer versions

I believe they’re still running 2007 over there, but if I save this using the 2010 version, will it actually open on their machines?
