Burning a DVD

I'm in the dark about how those DVDs were actually put together either. Besides, whenever I download stuff like that to my PC before burning it, I always end up seeing those folders like VIDEO_TS, AUDIO... just a mess of files.

That’s exactly my point—it’s just way easier to whip up an image and call it a day. Then you don't have to deal with the headache of worrying about file formats, specific content layouts, navigation menus, or any of that other technical nonsense.
