I’d love to just upload a screenshot right here, but I’m a bit stuck because it keeps telling me it’s a 64-bit OS, and I haven't quite figured out how to navigate around that yet!

Your 32-bit version is taking up 7 GB of disk space; my 64-bit version, including all the updates installed so far, takes up 11.9 GB. Honestly, doesn't seem that "bad" to me.🤷

casualjackal4 said:I need .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for some software I'm trying to run—it keeps prompting me during installation. What's the deal with Windows 7 regarding this?
Does Windows 7 come with it pre-installed, or is it a separate install?
I've been scouring the web, but all I can find are various beta versions.😕

Actually, .NET Framework 3.5.1 is built right into Windows 7 as a feature you can toggle on or OFF whenever you need it.

Just head over to the Control Panel, type "f" into the search box, and you'll see "Programs and Features" and "Turn Windows features on or off" at the top. Click that, check the box for "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1," hit OK, and you're good to go. You'll probably need to restart once it's done.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could always grab .NET Framework 4 beta 2. here: (link)

Jamie Phillips4 said:I installed Windows 7 last night and everything went smooth, except for a couple of drivers—mass controller and that MTP USB driver I mentioned earlier (Nokia 5800 xm). I managed to fix the first issue using Google, but that MTP USB driver is driving me crazy; I can't find what I need anywhere. Has anyone else run into this?
Also, Device Manager is showing an "unknown device" under Other Devices... any idea what that could be?

Anyway, Windows 7 is alright, though it feels pretty stupid they ditched Quick Launch (don't really dig this new taskbar setup all that much) and Dream Scene.

Alright, fixed those driver issues. The first one just sorted itself out somehow; I plugged in the 5800 xm again and the driver actually installed right that time. As for that unknown device, it turned out to be the BT stack... so yeah, if anyone hits the same wall, just right-click the unknown driver, hit properties, go to details, and copy whatever is in the description to Google it...

Regarding the taskbar and Dream Scene, I found some patches online through Google and everything's working fine now, but honestly, I got used to the new taskbar so I don't even miss Launch that much anymore...😁

I'm moving 11 GB over to a flash drive and it's going to take me about 25 minutes.
I'm running Windows 7 and I can't stop watching the transfer speed—it keeps dropping, and right now it's sitting at 6.6 MB/s.
Is this just because of Windows 7, or what?
I know those GT versions usually hit around 25 or 32 MB/s.

It really depends on what you're actually writing... if you're dumping a ton of tiny little files onto it, the speed is going to tank—that’s just how things work with any drive, honestly. Plus, speeds tend to drop off as the capacity increases; generally speaking, smaller sticks offer better r/w speeds than the massive ones.

I was copying those same files over on Windows XP and it took about 8 minutes to move 11GB

Noah Sanchez39 As follows:
Just so we’re clear, .NET Framework 3.5.1 is essentially a built-in Windows 7 feature. You can toggle it on or off whenever you feel like it, depending on what your system actually needs to run.

Open up your Control Panel and head over to the search bar. Just type in the letter "f." You should see "Programs and Features" and "Turn Windows features on or off" pop up right at the top. Click on that, find ".NET Framework 3.5.1," and toggle it on. Hit OK, and let it do its thing. Once it finishes installing, you’ll likely have to deal with a restart. Typical.

If you feel like it, you can also go ahead and install .NET Framework 4 beta 2.I can't find the link you're referring to. Could you please post it again?)

Thanks! 👍

Other than that, I guess I'm not too sure... Maybe you're using some pirated 🙂 version that claims to be 64-bit by messing with the system info?

Do you see both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders on your system partition?
As for the picture, you can just save one using MS Paint. Just open the window you want to capture, hit Print Screen on your keyboard, then go into MS Paint and use Ctrl+V to paste it! After that, you can just post it here on the forum...

I just picked up the Windows 7 expert guide published by PC Magazine, and I have to say, I'm genuinely impressed. It covers just about everything a person could possibly need to know. It wasn't exactly cheap, which is always a bit of a sting to the wallet, but honestly? If you want to actually master the OS, it’s worth every cent.

Have you tried opening System Information? Basically: Hit Start, type "System Information", then hit Enter. 🙂

Another way to check if you're running Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit is through the Control Panel, under System. 😉

Does anyone have a preference between Home Premium and Ultimate? My PC handles everything from general use to light work tasks.
Should I go with an upgrade or just buy the full version? I can afford either. Which one is actually better? Right now, I'm running a non-genuine version of Vista Ultimate.

Just grab the full Ultimate version instead of the upgrade. If you have the budget for it, why settle for less when you can just go all out and not look back...👍

Here is a little trick you might not have stumbled upon yet.

If you open up a few different windows in Windows and grab one of them to shake, let me know if you actually manage to trigger anything... 🙂

I've got this ISO file sitting here: 7600.16385.090713-1255_x86fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GRMCULFRER_EN_DVD.iso

So, I'm wondering if just burning the ISO to a DVD is enough...
Or what exactly do I need to do to make sure it actually functions as a bootable disk?
I'm using Nero 9

I went ahead and grabbed that tool from Microsoft to check my rig
to see if it's ready for Windows 7... everything looks fine, except for one thing. It says
it's not certain whether Aero will run because of my GPU...
The card is an Nvidia 6800 GT with 256mb DDR...

Help me out here...

Thanks 👍
