Just Burn image to a DVD and you should be fine. The graphics card might struggle a bit, I guess, but it shouldn't be much of a problem. 🙂

thanks a lot 🙂

one more thing, when installing Windows... do I have to manually hunt down drivers
like back on Windows XP, or does everything just pop up automatically? I think I read somewhere that they do...

thanks 🙏

You’ll probably end up installing most of it yourself, but I’d strongly suggest grabbing the graphics drivers directly from the manufacturer’s site first.

On my end, all the drivers just loaded up automatically during the Windows 7 installation. If any specific one happens to be missing, I guess you can just track it down and install it later; it’s not really a huge deal. 🙂

Does that driver install during the Windows setup itself, or only after it's done...?
So, if that happens right after the install, does that mean it's just grabbing the drivers from the web?...
And if you don't have high-speed internet, that can be a real pain too... 😁

Whatever...

And if I'm stuck with slow internet, isn't that going to be a total nightmare? 😁

Dummy.

Exactly. You can always check the Device Manager to see if it actually grabbed the latest versions.

hvača

If you're working with slow internet, that might actually be an issue. It's not just the drivers; Windows 7 also pulls down OS updates, which could end up taking forever ☕

Man,

I guess you're still running on a dial-up modem from the nineties. 🙂

One last question before I commit to Windows 7. My hard drive is partitioned into several sections. One drive holds nothing but the OS, while the others contain various files. If I install Windows 7 on the primary OS drive, will it leave the other partitions untouched? In my experience with Windows XP, when the system became unstable, I would simply perform a fresh installation on the OS drive without affecting the rest of the data. Otherwise, I’ll be forced to move everything to another computer before starting the installation.

I did this back when I used Windows XP—whenever the system started acting up, I’d just slap down a fresh copy on the OS drive without touching the rest. It saves me from having to move everything to another PC if something goes wrong.

If you tell the installer to target the C: drive and specifically choose to format C:, you'll get a clean installation of Windows 7. It won't touch your other partitions, so all that extra junk should stay right where it is. 🙂

I've got DSL, but it's capped at:

is that enough?

Great, then. Thanks.

It’s not exactly fast, but hey, it's ADSL. It'll get the job done. I guess if you aren't super impatient or in a massive rush, you should be fine. 🙂

Windows 7 is total garbage to me... took a million headaches just to get Daemon Tools and other junk installed.. plus all those stupid popups, asking if you'll let Daemon mess with your C drive or whatever... such a joke. Vista with the service pack was way better...

Open up a few Windows windows, grab one, and give it a shake. Let me know if it actually works. 🙂

Testing that out in Firefox right now. It seems like when I "shake" one window, the other one just goes hidden. If I give the first window another quick shake, the other one pops back up. Is that what you were getting at? 😉

Yeah, I get it 🙂 ... me and a few others are pulling the signal via wireless from one router, so we set it up to avoid overloading the bandwidth...............
Got the week installed. Only thing was I had to manually grab the sound card driver after the fact. Now I'm hunting down the graphics driver—even though Windows already installed one, I can't find any option for TV-out anywhere... stuck if I am.
One more thing, how do you actually get icons onto the taskbar?? I can't seem to pin anything down there...

Also, are you guys using the default Internet Explorer or switching over to Firefox?

thanks

Is anyone else running into weird issues with Windows 7 64 on an HP 6735s?
It’s mostly being a pain with the screen brightness, I guess. Like, I'll set it to full brightness while it's plugged into the wall, but either it's super finicky about actually staying there, or it just decides to dim itself back down after a little while... which is just great. The thing is, when I was running W7 32 bit, everything worked perfectly fine, so I don't know if this is just some weird bug or what.

Hey, I need some advice here.

Should I go with the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Windows 7?

I'm running 4 gigs of RAM, an Nvidia geforce 8800, and an AMD 64 x2 dual-core 5200+.

Thanks in advance.

Do you actually have any software that runs in 64-bit mode? I'm assuming you don't, so I guess the answer is pretty obvious.
