Still nothing, honestly—I feel like I’ve run every single upgrade available since the moment I finished installing it (I think I've covered everything, anyway)

Is there any chance this is a one-in-a-million fluke, or is anyone else actually running into these same issues... 😕
It’s highly unlikely that the installation actually went smoothly... he might have just downloaded some complete garbage instead of Windows, or perhaps his own lack of technical know-how is tripping him up, or maybe they're just totally lost in the woods...

If you actually possessed a shred of common sense, you wouldn't be running into an issue like this in the first place... let alone considering making the jump to Linux... 😍

Honestly, I suspect his lack of technical experience might be getting the better of him. Perhaps they’re just lost somewhere deep in the woods?

If you had been using a properly functioning system to begin with, you wouldn't be facing an issue like this. And honestly, do you really think jumping over to Linux is going to solve anything? 😍

I have been following this thread closely for three weeks now.🙏 I didn't want to mess things up, but honestly, I was absolutely dying when I heard that joke! 🤣😂😁

Which version of Windows should I go with—Home or Professional?🤣I’m definitely going to skip the retail store on this one. Given my current hardware specs—specifically that Intel Core 2 quad Q8200 running at 2.33GHz, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce 9800 gt 512mb—is it really worth paying full price? I think we can all agree that downloading it is the smarter move here.

(Home, Professional, etc.)—and just to be clear, I won't be buying anything from a physical retail store (home, profešnal🤣,...) (neću kupovat u dućanu)

7 👍

There isn't much to debate there, really. It’s Windows 7 Ultimate.

Steven Hayes80 said:I simply could not restrain myself from weighing in on this subject, because quite frankly, Windows 7 has disappointed me to such an extent that I am still struggling to process the sheer frustration.
I have personally tested just about every iteration available, ranging from those early beta builds to the 64-bit versions once they were finally released for download.
Not everything functioned with the expected level of stability, but I held onto the naive hope that by the time the final retail version arrived, Microsoft would have smoothed out all these ridiculous kinks.
And here we are! Windows 7 Ultimate.
The installation itself proceeded without much incident.
To my genuine surprise, I found that all the drivers were easily accessible online.
However, the trouble began immediately when I attempted to install Firefox; it runs at a pace that can only be described as pathetically sluggish.
So, I decided to try Opera! Well, look at that! It actually works, albeit in a somewhat peculiar fashion! Regardless, I shall move on.
Nero, Winamp, and uTorrent all installed successfully, yet none of them seem to function with any degree of reliability. Should I even mention how uTorrent, for absolutely no discernible reason, will abruptly terminate a download and throw up some nonsensical error message? Something along the lines of "the files you are downloading cannot be completed because they are currently in use"?!
And then, quite suddenly, the entire system freezes for no apparent reason, even when there is only a single program running.
Then, naturally, it loses the wireless password settings. And so it goes, and so it goes...
For the sake of context, I should note that my machine is running a Pentium 4 with 4GB of RAM and a 256MB graphics card.
To summarize my ordeal: if I had to choose between Windows Vista and Windows 7, I would actually pick Vista, simply because it manages to perform adequately enough.
Just kidding!
I am wiping Windows entirely and making my escape to Linux!
Ubuntu!
Goodbye, Microsoft! For heaven's sake...
Greetings to everyone!!!

To begin with: run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and it will signal to you exactly what is malfunctioning on your system. Following that, you really ought to ensure you are using a clean, legitimate version of Windows 7 that isn't riddled with bugs. In my own experience, the 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate beta version operates without any errors whatsoever. The only issue is that certain older games—Will Rock, for instance—don't run perfectly (I suppose I'm getting old), whereas some newer titles, like Crysis, run fine provided you have the latest updates.
I have noticed that Windows 7 seems to be a bit more aggressive at detecting pirated software, but aside from that, everything is fine.

Because from what I can tell, there are tons of threads about Vista...

thanks

Just Google "Windows 7 themes" and you'll find them. 🙂

I'll look, though I haven't found anything useful yet.

Got a question... does Windows 7 Ultimate let you download a language pack
for a different language, like... maybe Spanish? So everything shows up in Spanish?
What's the actual process for that?

Also, from what I've gathered with Windows 7, even if it pulls down 90% of the drivers—maybe even all of them—
it still happens that some driver isn't 100% compatible, so you have to run an upgrade or just install a new one manually. It happened to me where the network driver was acting up and the connection was garbage. Once I grabbed the official driver straight from the manufacturer's site, everything worked fine.

What's the best way to go about it?

You can actually just handle that through Windows Update...

What exactly do I need to do?

it can still happen that a driver is technically compatible but needs a manual upgrade or a fresh install to actually work. I had an issue where my network driver was acting up and the connection was terrible. Once I downloaded the official driver directly from the manufacturer's website, everything worked perfectly.

1) You can download the English Language pack through Windows Update.

2) Windows 7 installs drivers for specific components during the initial setup, but over time, those drivers get newer versions. You'll need to grab those yourself from the manufacturer's website, or just use "check for updates" if that option is available.

I recently made the jump to Windows 7, and honestly, I have to say the experience has been nothing short of fantastic so far!! (I was using Windows XP previously)👍👍👍

However, I’ve hit a bit of a snag because I just can't seem to figure out how to SHRINK THE ICONS. They feel a bit too oversized for my taste, and I'm not really a fan of the current look,🤷🤷🤷

so if anyone happens to know the trick to making those desktop icons smaller, I would be incredibly grateful if you could walk me through it!
Thanks so much in advance🙏
Best regards

You can find this stuff at pretty much any decent electronics retailer.

For instance, check out Best Buy

Just so we’re clear, I’ve been running legitimate copies of Windows 7, and when I ran a hardware benchmark, the results confirmed the machine has more than enough muscle to handle a full week of heavy lifting without breaking a sweat.
Besides, let's get one thing straight—I'm far from some novice who just figured out how to plug in a mouse; I’ve been working with computers for over 20 years now.
That's really all there is to it.
Best regards!!

Steven Hayes80 said:I should point out that the Windows 7 machines I’ve been working on are fully licensed, and according to the hardware benchmarking software I ran, this rig has more than enough power to handle the workload for a week straight.
Beyond that, I’m hardly some novice here. I’ve been working with computers for 20 years.
that's all.
Best regards!!

If you’re such an absolute expert, then why haven't you fixed the issue yourself? I mean, 20 years of experience... for heaven's sake, if you actually knew what you were doing, you wouldn't be posting on a forum because you'd have already solved the damn thing. It would be embarrassing...🙄
