@John Clark6/">@@John Clark6, you've run into a handful of glitches on Windows 7, which seems like an isolated case to me. You can't really build a whole opinion based just on one bad experience. It’s not just a few people on this forum raving about Windows 7, either—if you check any tech forum, pick up an IT magazine, or read through reviews, you'll see the consensus. It's unlikely everyone else is wrong. They had to release three Service Packs for XP just to make it somewhat usable, whereas Windows 7 offered way more out of the box. Honestly, try running XP without any service packs and you'll see exactly what I mean when you compare them...

PS. It really gets under my skin when I see someone with 15 years of experience using the term "games," but hey, whatever.

John Clark6 said:Look, the whole issue is that you have to jump through endless hoops just to fix basic stuff. That's why I'm done messing around with it. I'm not going to be a slave to Windows; they should work for me. I've been burned by them way too many times already, and I've had enough. It’s not like I claim to know everything, but after maybe 15 years in this field, I know enough. I just haven't had much luck with Windows lately—it seems like there's always some kind of mess to deal with.

You might have issues, sure, but Windows 7 has only been out for a month. XP has been established for 8 years, so comparing drivers for Windows 7 and XP isn't really an apples-to-apples thing.🙂

I don't see how Windows 7 is to blame when your hardware manufacturers can't seem to write decent drivers.

Hey guys, I need a hand here. I'm getting this message saying "volume in drive C is no label"... basically just telling me there's no label on my C drive.
Can someone actually explain what the hell that means?

So, here’s my first Windows setup that hasn't needed a reboot in 11 days straight 🙏

Regardless of how you look at it, I'm browsing the forum right now via Windows XP and, honestly, everything is working perfectly fine. It seems pretty clear that a lot of software for Windows hasn't been fully optimized yet, though I suppose that doesn't affect me personally—I'll probably just wait a year or two until everything is properly synced up before I finally install "7," haha. And let's be real, gaming has always been a huge part of my life, even though I'm 27 now, hehe. Anyway, guys, just keep tweaking your Windows setups and enjoy yourselves👍. I was just trying to lay out my arguments and the issues I've run into, so why am I getting roasted? Kisses!🙂

What kind of tweaking are you even talking about?
Everything is just on default settings here. I haven't touched a single thing or tweaked any settings—except for the wallpaper, obviously. Not one single process has been messed with!!
Even my AutoCAD 2006 32 is running perfectly fine on this 64-bit version of 7.
Honestly, it feels like maybe you downloaded some super sketchy, unofficial version off some random site somewhere. 🙂
And that comment about uTorrent is honestly such a massive lol. I don't think I've even opened that program in ages xD
Never had a single issue with it.
Off-topic though—does anyone know if the Professional version actually comes with DreamScene?
I think that would be pretty cool, and I kinda miss it xD
But hey, even these wallpapers that rotate every 15 minutes aren't bad at all 😁 especially if you take the time to put together a really solid collection :ceek:
Did you guys see how many slideshow options they have over on the Microsoft website? 😍

DreamScene isn't enabled by default on Windows 7, but you can easily fix that yourself:

🙄

I'm looking at the full-sized version, obviously—the actual original resolution. It's taking up my entire monitor. (22 inches, 1680x1050)

Alright, I'll jump into this thread. I’ve been messing around with Windows 7 for about a week now, and honestly? It's nothing special. Sure, the interface looks different and there are some new features, but man, it is unstable as hell. If you're just your average user, you're better off sticking with Windows XP and waiting until this half-baked mess actually becomes a finished product. Unless, of course, you're running Vista on a high-end beast of a rig—then go ahead and enjoy yourself.

I’ve got Windows 7 running on a 5-year-old desktop, a 3-year-old rig, and an HP laptop I just picked up two months ago. Installation took maybe 20 minutes each time. All the drivers snapped right into place, too. Everything’s working smoothly—not a single crash in a week. The UI looks nice and feels more intuitive; for example, installing fonts is way easier now since you can just link them to a folder instead of having to reinstall them every single time 🙂 . Overall, I’d recommend it. Personally, though, I kind of miss Quick launch and Outlook. I know they pushed that other mail client as a replacement, but I'm not a fan because it doesn't keep everything in one place; it creates separate folders for every single account, which gets pretty messy when you're managing seven different ones. 😢

@neonmaker12/">@@neonmaker12 - honestly, looking at your screenshot on my 22'' monitor, I'm not seeing what the big deal is 🙂 . It looks fine to me.
Unless you messed with some settings:

Has anyone actually managed to pull off one of those Superman deals? I’m wondering if these are legitimate licenses that can actually be activated.

I didn't mess with those settings back then—didn't want to end up staring at a blank screen..
Bumped it up to 125...
I've got this nagging feeling that WinFax... the image viewer is rendering things at 16-bit or whatever instead of 32—even though I definitely have it set to 32.
It's wrecking the midtones so badly it's actually ridiculous.

And here we go again; another Blue Screen of Death has decided to grace my afternoon. I was sitting there, watching the download progress steadily climb for about an hour and a half, only for it to hit 85.7% before the system completely gave up on me.

Here is the screenshot for those interested in the carnage: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2vm7mky&s=6

I get the feeling that WinFax... the image viewer displays things in 16-something instead of 32. (even though it's set to 32)
because it totally wrecks some of the midtones, it's wild

Heh... Not sure who needs glasses here. Looks 100% fine on my end. Maybe try checking the sharpness at 100%.
That 16 and 32 thing is color depth, like 16-bit vs 32-bit color display.
Maybe WinFax is causing the issue. I guess that software isn't really being updated anymore. 🤷

Those 16 and 32 settings refer to color depth—16-bit vs 32-bit color display.
Maybe WinFax is what's causing the headache. Pretty sure they stopped updating that software ages ago. 🤷

"Symantec discontinued sales and support of WinFax PRO on June 30, 2006." (link)

How does a program like that even run on Windows 7? 🤔

Sorry, I'm talking about Windows Proto Viewer...
I honestly have no clue why I'm the only one running into this issue...
Are the letters 100% too small for you? Hmm, let me go try that now...
Oh, right—those colors. It's like this viewer is stuck in 16-bit mode, because the shading is just as weird as I mentioned before...

edit... everything is exactly the same, except the fonts are slightly smaller on Windows itself... nope. The Viewer still isn't working right, though I guess not everyone will notice. Anyway, does anyone know some lightweight software similar to a viewer? Basically, I just need to browse files and have a delete option...

It’s been driving me nuts.
I’m heading back to XP ali 64 bit this time—hoping I might actually see some better performance out of it... though who knows if I'm just kidding myself.

XP is just the best, so I went ahead and grabbed this customized version from back in 2008 where they added some clever little tweaks and stripped out all the useless junk...
