Windows 7

So, I'm working on a Dell Latitude running Windows 7 Professional with a student license. I've managed to get all the drivers installed except for these:

Any idea how I can figure out what's missing?
One more thing—this might be a rookie mistake, but... I was using Outlook Express and made some .dbx backup files. My plan was to import them into Mail once I download it from Microsoft Essentials on Windows 7, but I keep getting an error and it won't let me download it😢... Is there any other way to get Mail for Windows 7?
I'd rather just switch over to Outlook, but I've got those .dbx backups stuck there...
Thanks🙏

How am I supposed to figure out what's missing?
Right-click on "Unknown device," hit Properties... what does Windows have to say about it?

I'm getting some kind of error and it won't let me download it.😢Is there any other way to access Gmail for Windows 7?
I’m thinking about making the jump over to Outlook, but I've got this whole .dbx backup situation hanging over my head.
Thanks.🙏
What kind of error are we even talking about? You can just download the Microsoft Essentials suite directly. Here..

My suggestion would be to head over to the Dell support site and grab every driver specifically for your laptop model. They usually provide a guide on which order you should install them in.
Might as well grab all the drivers and any utility software that comes with your model and get everything installed at once.

What kind of error? You can grab the Windows Live programs here.
My bad, I misspoke... I already downloaded it, but I'm getting an error during installation...
I'll have to check out that CU thing once I get home...

That's exactly what I did right after installing. I just grabbed the Windows 7 drivers they offered and installed them...

Seems like the SD Card Reader might be the culprit. I did a little digging and it looks like a pretty common issue. Maybe check this out:

Maybe try reinstalling that driver again.

Whoops, I didn't actually look that up yet... I'll check when I get home. Haven't even tried the reader, so maybe that really is it. Thanks.

When I'm downloading from RapidShare, it starts off saying there's 20 minutes left, then suddenly jumps down to 10—but the actual file takes like 40 minutes to finish!
When it hits the home stretch and claims there are only 2 minutes left, it’s actually still going for another 5. Either way, the timer is a total lie...

Even when it says there's only 2 minutes left, it's usually still going for another 5. It definitely lies...
You can't really trust the speed estimates on MediaFire. They probably throttle your connection on purpose if you don't have a premium account, just to bait you into paying for one. 🙂

So, I think it used to work exactly how it says—if it shows 5 minutes, then it’s actually 5... though I can't be 100% sure.
And all these random things I'm finding online, like those RapidShare accounts mostly packed in RAR files—is there anything actually useful there, or is it just a massive virus trap? (Just asking.)

most of it is just Trojans😢
Maybe try grabbing something directly from Microsoft's own servers; you'll see how fast those downloads actually fly🙂

Steven Hayes80 said:I just had to vent about this—Windows 7 has been such a massive disappointment that I’m still reeling from it.
I tried every single version, from the beta builds to the 64-bit editions once they finally hit the web.
Not everything worked perfectly, obviously, but I figured they'd iron out the kinks by the time the final release rolled around.
Well, here we are! Windows 7 Ultimate.
The installation itself went smoothly enough.
Surprisingly, all my drivers were available online without any hassle.
The headaches started immediately with Firefox—it runs painfully slow. Pathetic, really.
Tried Opera instead. Alright! That works, even if it feels a bit glitchy. Moving on.
Nero, Winamp, and uTorrent all installed fine, but nothing actually performs correctly. For instance, uTorrent randomly kills my downloads and throws some nonsensical error—something along the lines of "files cannot complete because they are in use." Ridiculous.
Then there's the system freezing for no reason while only one program is running.
And then it loses my Wi-Fi password. You name it, it happens.
Just for context, I'm running a Pentium with 4GB of RAM and a 256MB graphics card.
To summarize: If I had to choose between Windows Vista and Windows 7, I’d pick Vista. At least it functions.
Just kidding!
I’m wiping Windows and moving over to Linux!
Ubuntu!
Goodbye, Microsoft! Seriously... fuck this.
Cheers, everyone!!!
🤣🤣
You must have thrown stones at God, because apparently those specific versions you installed were total junk.
Or maybe the rest of us are just geniuses! 😉
Get someone to fix it for you if you can't handle it yourself.

Try downloading something straight from Microsoft's own servers—then you'll see how fast that actually goes 🙂
Look, I don't care about the speed itself—it's the fact that Windows gives you a download timer that's completely useless..
It'll claim one second left when it's actually still got another 15 seconds to go... I checked once it hit the 59-second mark
#2296 ·
I see some other download speeds look pretty decent.
Quick question—I’ve got my Windows update settings set to manual so I can pick and choose what gets installed, which is fine, but now I’m stuck wondering if there are actually any critical updates I'm missing. I hate when AdwCleaner ends up with a massive pile of stuff I don't recognize... plus, is there any chance Windows update will realize I'm running a non-genuine copy and just—I don't know—screw over my OS or something?

I guess you should probably grab anything marked as a critical update in Windows, but the Optional update stuff is really up to you. As for that second part, there’s always a chance a system update might be checking to see if your version of Windows is legit, which could end up locking you out or demanding a license key when you boot up—though that’s probably a long shot. 🙂

Is this actually any better than Windows XP Service Pack 3? I’m seriously thinking about jumping over to Windows 7 Ultimate, but honestly, I have no clue if it’s going to be better for gaming or if I'm just asking for trouble.

There is already a dedicated thread regarding Windows 7, so you might want to go over those posts instead.....
