Hey everyone!!! I'm new to this forum and looking for some advice!
So here’s the deal... I've been using Windows since I first got a computer (98, XP, Windows Vista Ultimate), and right now I'm running the 32-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate—which, honestly, has been getting pretty old lately! Since I know Windows 7 is out, I'm planning to install it in the next few days. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with Windows 7... just so you know, I have zero interest in going back to XP or Vista!
If anyone has a better OS recommendation, let me know and I might consider it too! But the current plan is Windows 7, specifically the 64-bit version. I'm curious if you think I should go 32-bit or 64-bit, and if Windows 7 is actually worth it... also, please spare me the "XP is the best" comments!
I've read so much about Windows 7 online, but the problem is one person loves it and the next one absolutely hates it...
Here are my specs!

Motherboard: AM2NF6G-VSTA
Processor: AMD Athlon 2.21 GHz
HDD: 2X250GB HDD Maxtor and Seagate 7500 rpm
RAM: 4X1GB DDR2 800MHz
Graphics: ATI X1600 Pro 512MB GDDR2
Samsung WriteMaster DVD-RW DL
LG CD-RW
PSU: MS 550W

Thanks in advance!

Some guy told me I'd totally wreck my hard drive and motherboard if I reinstall Windows too often—I gotta admit, I gave him a pretty skeptical look 😁

edit: So wait, I can just wipe and reinstall Windows like a hundred times in a row and nothing's gonna break? 😁

Look, you aren't gonna learn anything new or get any real answers from this thread at this point. It's just a loop. One guy says it's amazing, the next guy swears it's garbage, and some third guy is just sitting there waiting for the final release version to drop... blah, blah, blah.🤷

My brother actually sat down yesterday and installed Windows 7 (7057) x64, and honestly? So far, it's killer. It runs incredibly fast and I haven't run into a single thing that bugs me yet...

Maybe if you're restarting your PC all the time? I mean, I'm probably wrong about that, though.
Formatting the drive and doing a clean install of Windows is pretty much just like installing some massive AAA game—at least that’s how it feels to me. If I've got that totally wrong, please set me straight 😬

nope, you've got it wrong. It hasn't actually launched yet. What's out there is just a beta—maybe RC1?—but nothing is a finished product. Betas are strictly for testing. I guess the official release isn't slated until closer to the end of the year.

😳 My bad!! I’m such an idiot—I didn't even realize this was just a beta version!
I know everyone is raving about it, so I was really just asking if it's worth installing even though it's still in beta... you totally missed my point there!?!

I understood perfectly. I read exactly what was written. 😉

Go ahead and install the beta. It's like driving a car with just an engine and half-empty tires—no doors, no windows. Whatever.

Since upgrading to a new Windows 7 build on an HDD won't magically fix your physical shortcomings, I don't see any reason to install a beta unless you just want to play around. From what I can tell, you're looking to use it as your primary OS, which is just foolish.

Just set up a dual boot. Test it all you want; you'll still have Windows Vista sitting right there on the other partition.

Quick question..

I installed Windows 7 and everything was running smooth as silk. Then one day, I step away for a bathroom break, come back, and the whole thing is wiped. Just a bare-bones Windows install. Every single program is gone, all my photos are gone—everything except File Explorer and a few basic system tools. Everything I worked on just vanished into thin air. I have no clue how or why this happened. When I tried to run a recovery, it told me the trial had expired, so I re-entered my serial key, but still nothing. It’s just a naked Windows 7 install again. Any idea what could cause this?
Help please..
Anyway, I just tried reinstalling the CS3 suite and it won't even launch. Before this mess, I could see it in "Add/Remove Programs" to uninstall it, but now when I try, absolutely nothing happens.😕

Yeah, I've heard that before... hmm... maybe you grabbed a "bad" version of Windows 7. It happens. If they give you a shady installer, you get whatever they want to give you. Your best bet is to track down a legitimate version of Windows 7 and just reinstall from scratch. Honestly, you don't have much of a choice left.

I was just wondering if anyone could point me toward the absolute latest Windows 7 build—and maybe where I can grab the download for the most recent version?...

The last one is 706x—not sure of the exact number—but you can find all the x68-x84-x32 versions over at www.miniva.org. They're all available for download and they're clean, too—not some modified junk, just pure versions. I'm running build 7057 right now... it's solid. No errors.🙂

The latest build is 7105, but watch out for the wave of fakes hitting the torrent sites...

Latest build is 7105?? Wow... I thought 7067 was the one before that—maybe? Anyway, another one just dropped in the meantime... which means RC1 could be coming any day now. Lol. And yeah, there’s definitely a huge risk with those fakes. Personally, I’ve always had good luck with mininova.org—it works every time. If you're downloading something, especially Windows 7, you just check the comments first to see if the file is a dud. That way you know if it's legit. But man, I need to track down this 7105... sounds tempting.👍

I'm just gonna chill and wait until the full version actually drops—then I'll finally get it onto my rig! 😁

Can you actually use Windows 7 normally? Like, does everything just work? Vista keeps screwing me over, so I'm thinking maybe I don't have to crawl back to XP. I just need stuff to run without lagging—specifically PaintShop and Premiere—plus all the basic programs.

Back at the station and I'm seeing the exact same posts from you. What, are you on something or what? Why are you acting so stupid?
