I totally get what you mean 😉. I’ve spent way too much time dragging my taskbar all over the place—stretching it, shrinking it, just messing around with it. Mine never turned all blurry like yours did, though. Honestly, not much else to say besides: hang in there until the full update drops, and until then... might as well enjoy playing around with these bugs 🙂

Edit: Here’s how fast I can rip files from a DVD to my hard drive:

It's likely dragging because of all those tiny files.

I don't really have much else to offer, other than maybe just waiting for the final release and dealing with these bugs in the meantime 🙂

Edit: Here’s my DVD to hard drive transfer speed:

Well, it probably depends on how many RPMs that hard drive is running at

Hey everyone. Quick question for you... I just finished installing Windows 7 and my microphone is being completely useless. Since there aren't any specific drivers for this version yet, I tried using the Realtek driver from Windows Vista, but no luck. When I plug the mic into the pink jack, nothing happens—it’s like the computer doesn't even know it exists. It worked perfectly fine on my Windows Vista machine, too. I've tried everything... setting it as the default device, tweaking every single Realtek setting imaginable... nothing. I even tested the mic on another PC running Vista and it works flawlessly. Anyone have any ideas?... Thanks, cheers🙂

The one thing I absolutely cannot stand about these versions of Windows is User Account Control. Sure, you can disable it, but until you do, it just sits there constantly nagging you. My second gripe is the whole mess with file permissions. I ran into massive headaches with the partition running Windows XP. Every single file or folder I wanted to access required me to manually adjust user rights. Eventually, out of pure frustration, I just selected the entire partition and forced it to take ownership of everything. That actually worked—until I tried switching back to XP. It was a disaster. Everything defaulted to a temporary profile, programs refused to launch, nothing worked. Naturally, I panicked a bit, did some Googling, and had a "stroke of genius": I booted into Safe Mode on the XP side using the full Administrator profile to reset the permissions back to how they were. Now everything is running smoothly again. That’s really my only major headache, and don't even get me started on how Windows XP can read data from the Windows 7 partition without any issues, while I practically had to perform digital harakiri just to reach the files on my XP system partition. 🙂

Why on earth do people say "WINDOWS-ES" in the plural? :S Like, what even constitutes a plural version of 🤷

Look, I get what you're saying, but when I say Windows as an operating system, that's what I'm actually talking about

I can't get this crap to install for the life of me.

Downloaded it straight from Microsoft's site, still nothing.

It just hangs mid-install, freezes up, or throws some error about missing files.

Specs are
abit ip35 pro
q6600
Nvidia gtx275 4
4 gigs RAM
Samsung monitor is cranking
Two hard drives, one Seagate, one Hitachi. I've tried everything—installing on one, then the other, swapping them out one by one...😁
I even swapped the GPU, pulled the RAM out, even moved a power supply from another PC thinking it was faulty. Swapped basically everything except the motherboard and the CPU.

The CPU is overclocked, though I reset it to stock clock speeds thinking that might be it. Didn't help.

Nothing else in the hardware seems weird enough to stall an install. Googled it, found nothing. I even ran that Microsoft compatibility tool to see if it'd handle Windows 7, and it said everything's fine. It did mention potential issues with Daemon Tools and Norton, but that shouldn't matter here.

Hardware says it's good to go.

Windows XP and Vista install perfectly fine.

No clue why this garbage won't work.

I just followed the instructions to the letter. I went straight to Microsoft’s site, downloaded Windows 7 onto my desktop, grabbed an ISO burning tool, burned the disc, popped it in, and just rebooted... it handles the rest itself. I'm running dual hard drives too, so there shouldn't be any issues since it asks you which drive you want to target during setup. Just a heads-up though, finding drivers for 7 is becoming a real pain... still waiting on someone to help me get this microphone working...🙄

Taylor Campbell4 said:Well, there are just a couple of things that tend to trip me up occasionally—it doesn't really bother me too much, though, and I still use it as my main OS (but honestly, I’d probably argue that Windows XP was more stable. That makes sense, I guess, since this system is way more complex and we're all pretty much just scratching the surface here. Maybe once we get a certain Sony Pictures update out, it'll be as rock-solid as XP). I'll figure it out eventually 🙂

Most of my headaches probably stem from the hardware side of things, because Explorer tends to hang whenever that one specific DVD drive acts up—I have no clue what the deal is with it. (The one that works fine, you know, the one on the IDE/ATA connection? It worked perfectly on my old machine, but now with this Sony drive, it’s copying DVDs at a snail's pace of maybe 300-500 kb/s, whereas the other SATA one hits about 12 MB/s...). As soon as there's a disc in there, everything starts stuttering. I probably need to double-check my "hardware" manual; it's entirely possible I didn't hook everything up quite right, seeing as both the PC and the OS are brand new...

Besides, people definitely don't struggle with Windows 7; if you just look at the support forums, you'll see plenty of issues, but I suppose that's just par for the course when dealing with Windows.

I had a similar situation with a Samsung DVD drive back when I was running Windows 7, and after testing it, I realized the thing was just defective. Once I swapped it out for a new drive, all those Windows 7 glitches vanished and everything has been running smooth as silk ever since. If you want a decent free tool to check your drives, I'd suggest Nero-DiscSpeed.

I have no idea why this junk won't work.

Maybe try burning the image at a lower speed.🙂

I'm honestly not sure yet. I'm hoping I didn't mess up the jumper settings—maybe it's set to slave when it shouldn't be. There's also a chance I slightly damaged the IDE connector; I might have forced it in the wrong way once and bent something a little. Then again, it could just be voltage instability from the overclocking. I'll wait until I'm actually in the mood to crack open the case and swap that jumper before I draw any conclusions.

How exactly did you test the DVD?

Alright, figured I’d jump in here with the rest of you Windows 7 "owners" 🙂
Everything is pretty much perfect—honestly, I'm stoked (running the RC with an official key🙂, huge shoutout to the forum member who helped me score that
). There's just this one tiny thing that's driving me nuts and I can't for the life of me figure out... I went ahead and downloaded the Realtek Audio Driver myself, but now it's nowhere to be found in the Control Panel, and I can't track it down anywhere else😕
The little icon shows up in the notification area... but clicking it does absolutely nothing. Double-clicking won't even open the settings, so I can't mess with the equalizer or anything😕
Is there some kind of fix for this, or am I just out of luck...?

Everything is working perfectly—I’m actually beyond satisfied with it... especially since I'm running the RC with an official key.🙂...well, I really owe a massive thanks to one of the guys on this forum for making this all possible...
There is just one little thing I can't quite wrap my head around... it's driving me a bit crazy. I went ahead and downloaded the Realtek Audio Driver myself, but now it’s nowhere to be found—it's not showing up in the Control Panel, and I honestly can't find it anywhere else on the system...😕
The icon shows up in the notification area just fine... but double-clicking it does absolutely nothing. I can't get into the settings at all—I was trying to set up my equalizer, but it's like the interface is completely unresponsive...😕
Is there actually a solution for this, or......?

So, he’ll grab the drivers for you, but don't expect him to bundle the entire sound card software suite... that's exactly what happened in my case, too. If you happen to have the original disc lying around, your best bet is just to run the installation from there...

I mean, why is it such a huge struggle to just head over to realtek.com and download the drivers yourself?

If this Windows 7 RC is truly as incredible as everyone claims, why hasn't he downloaded it himself yet? 😁 (I had the exact same thought personally)
