I installed Windows 7 RC1 7100 about two weeks ago (by the way, that’s currently the latest version) and it runs flawlessly. Windows Update even pulled down the newest graphics driver for me just last week. As far as software goes—there are plenty of compatibility lists online—I'm more than satisfied. For instance, the Steinberg and Propellerhead software suites run without a single glitch.

The actual final build is 7137, I believe...☕

Yep, you got it. Build 7137 is the final version. My bad.

I didn't want to clutter things up with a whole new thread, so I figured I’d just drop my question right here.
Does anyone know if once the final version of Windows 7 officially drops, we'll be able to grab a free upgrade to the original edition?
thanks!

Once the final version of the Service Pack comes out, will we be able to upgrade to the original version for free?
thanks

I don't have a ton of experience when it comes to buying Windows, but my guess is that they’re two different systems, so the answer is probably no.

Once the final version of Service Pack 1 drops, can we upgrade to the full version for free?
thanks

Hey everyone... just checking in. I’ve been sticking with Windows 7 build 7100 lately, mostly because I spend my time digging through all these various 71xx builds—you know, the newer and newer iterations. However, I stumbled upon some info online suggesting that these 71xx builds are actually just incremental updates to the 70xx series (for example, implying build 7134 is essentially just a repackaged version of 7034). This has left me feeling "slightly" confused, given that I know Build 7100 is the official release I pulled directly from microsoft.com. Can someone set me straight? Are these higher builds actually superior and more stable than the base 7100, or is it all just superficial window dressing?

Honestly, if everything seems to be running smoothly for you, I wouldn't touch a thing until we finally hit RTM 😉

Microsoft says this beta runs through August, and then it’s gonna start shutting down every couple of hours—total nightmare! Is there some kind of workaround or a "crack" to fix this? I really don't want my setup crashing again since everything is running perfectly right now—plus, I've got so many apps and custom settings dialed in...

EDIT:
Once the full version hits the torrent sites (😁), can I actually turn on automatic updates? Back when I was using Windows XP, I knew how to dodge that annoying pop-up telling you you're using pirated software. But with Windows 7, I'm clueless—so if anyone knows the trick, please let me know! 🙂

I can't speak for everyone else, but my "RC" (7100) is valid until March 2010... As for your other question, you'll obviously have the best answer once the final version actually drops. Regarding cracks? I wouldn't know; I simply have no need for them. As I mentioned, this RC lasts until March 2010, and by then, I'll be using the full version—I might even just buy it. Otherwise, I'm sure there will be billions of cracks floating around anyway.

PS Just hit the Start button and type "winver" into the search bar... A little window will pop up telling you exactly when the expiration date is.

Which is actually better, the Windows 7 beta or the RC? I’m currently running version 7127 x64, but I can't help wondering if there's something newer out there floating around... if anyone has a download link, please send it my way.

@US_Psycho
RC
is the superior choice.
As for the rest......
Microsoft’s last actual release was RC7100
Anything else you see out there is just a quick edit in Photoshop
Take a screenshot of the desktop, tweak it a bit, swap out the text, and suddenly you’ve got "Version 20000." Just look closely at those images and tell me what you see.!!!!
If you actually want RC7100, stick with it and wait for Microsoft to drop the next official version.

I'm just putting this out there... I can't say for certain if this is a done deal, but word on the street is that Microsoft is set to drop the RC2 build 7200 on June 11th, 2009—that’s only ten days away. There’s even some quiet chatter suggesting they might already be tinkering with Service Pack 1 for Windows 7... it's just a rumor for now, though. @Chris Fox65/">@@Chris Fox65: If I were you, I’d hold off until that 7200 build actually lands.

@SE7EN.Th
Just follow my posts. If you're still confused, try actually reading the entire thread instead of skimming.
I’m a Windows 7 tester. Once there’s an update, I'll drop the links here. 🙂

I’m keeping one eye on this thread while the other stays shut, just waiting to hear your "expert advice" and seeing what you have to say about the latest updates... so, I’m signing off for now... and waiting...

7148 was the latest release
It’s nothing too crazy—just some stability tweaks, a few new themes, and slightly faster boot times...

I just really hope they don't mess it up by stuffing it with all kinds of bloatware. Build 7000 was only using about 400MB of RAM, but now 7100 is already hitting 500 or 600MB
