Take a look at this; just do a quick Google search to verify.
Check out the official system requirements here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/requirements.aspx

Download this...
Check out the official advisory page on the Microsoft site here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx
Just install it and run it. You'll see pretty quickly whether your computer can actually handle Windows 7.

A quick piece of advice: back up all your critical data if you have any sitting on the C: drive. If everything is safely stored on D:, then just go ahead and wipe the slate clean and run that Windows 7 installation.

Thanks, thanks... I've already done my own digging on Google and seen the whole picture. I guess I'm just looking to pick the brain of someone who actually knows their stuff a bit better than I do. This BIOS situation is what's really giving me grief. P.S. As far as the partition goes, it's all good. ;-)

That’s much better for me because all this white glare is blinding; I actually found the setting, but when I switch it to gray, absolutely nothing happens. I used to have this on Windows XP and it was significantly more comfortable to work with. So, I know exactly where the setting is—Personalize-window color and appearance-advanced appearance settings—but applying it does zero for me.

You aren't going to get that working with Windows 7 themes!
However, you can always "gut" that aesthetic by switching over to Windows Classic, and you'll get exactly what you're looking for! 😉

Or, if I may suggest to Noah Sanchez39: just put on some glasses. Even those cheap ones with the tiny holes will do; they're great for the vision. 😁 👍

You don't even need to touch the BIOS. Besides, you can't just run a direct upgrade from Windows XP; you have to do a clean install. That means booting from the Windows 7 DVD, formatting your C drive, and starting a completely fresh installation.

Honestly, I wouldn't go back to Windows XP even if someone paid me everything they had in the world.

Too expensive. For me, the RTM version runs like a Swiss watch. 😬

Same here, though I managed to get my activation sorted without any issues. 😉

And I have one more question—it seems like roughly every thirty minutes or so, my Windows just completely freezes up for about 30 seconds, and then it starts moving again... but it happens in these little little bursts?? It’s almost like an autosave feature in a video game, except this takes way longer than that! WTF??

Well... you're very welcome, truly. 🙄

But wait—could this be a deeper issue on your end too? The biggest headache used to be the gray window colors, but now this... 🤷 Seriously though... what the hell is going on here?
Which skeletal version of Windows 7 did you actually install? What is your hardware setup? How much RAM, which processor... what kind of power supply are we talking about? And what exactly are you doing when this triggers? How many programs are running? Is a media player playing music, or are you watching a movie?
WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING ????
Good grief, 🤦 just go back to XP properly 👍 😁

Hey man, I actually just found it—it's a total bug and there are tons of people dealing with it. Just type "Windows 7 not responding" into Google and you'll see; it's this error where Windows 7 just literally freezes up. From what I can tell by reading what everyone else is saying, nobody has actually managed to fix it yet. I don't really feel like quoting everyone here today, but there are definitely a massive amount of people facing the exact same thing....

Well, there you have it—the solution has finally arrived. 😍
Just so I can reiterate this for everyone else (of which there will be many):
just Google "Windows 7 not responding"!!!

That’s all from me; I've had quite enough for one day. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother looking for this if 🤣Bill
left me half his fortune.

Just so we’re all on the same page for everyone else—whoever else might be joining us later—let me just recap!
So, I was just sitting here thinking—and maybe I'm overthinking this, but bear with me—and I realized that sometimes you just have to hit up Google and type in "Windows 7 not responding"!!! It sounds so simple, right? But honestly, when your desktop starts acting up like that, it can be a bit of a headache! I guess we've all been there at some point—just staring at that little spinning icon, hoping the system catches its breath—you know what I mean? Anyway, just a thought!

Good grief, that's enough for me today! I think I've hit my limit—honestly, I wouldn't even go looking for answers on this if Bill were to leave me half his fortune! 🤣

I was actually thinking about reaching out to see how things are going on your end with Windows—it feels like I’m just a kid again, trying to figure it all out myself!👍

Oh, brilliant! You attempt to offer help through advice, and now you end up being outright rude.
I am dead serious.
If you were actually halfway decent or honest, you would have provided a link, or at the very least, an explanation for this "famous" problem that is supposedly happening to YOU. Instead, you leave everyone else here tearing their hair out trying to guess what the hell is even going on! 🙄 Peer camaraderie? Zero points. 👎

You can't even muster a simple "thanks for the advice," so I suppose this kind of behavior is exactly what we should expect.

There is never a shortage of these self-proclaimed "experts" lurking around forums like this! ☕

My RTM version is running perfectly—activated without a hitch and I've got nothing but good things to say about it. That said, is there actually any real difference between the RTM and the full version? Is it even worth nuking an RTM install that's working flawlessly just to get the full one?

👍

Honestly, there isn't any difference (link).
The RTM version is what gets handed off to PC manufacturers for testing and pre-installing on factory builds.
The Full (or GA, General Availability) version is simply what you buy at a retail store or through a wholesaler.
Don't bother messing with it—especially if it's working flawlessly, like you said.

Quick question for you guys. I just grabbed a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Retail (Final) 32-bit/64-bit MSDN (from back in Oct '09), and up until now, I've just been running around on a 32-bit version of Vista.
So, I decided to take a peek at my performance Information and Tools, and turns out my processor actually supports 64-bit. I’d love to jump over to Windows 7 64-bit, but here's the catch—I'm sitting on only 2 GB of RAM, and I read somewhere that you need more than 4 GB to make it work properly. My big question is, will it even run on 2 GB? I'm kind of stuck because I don't have any open slots left on my motherboard to add more RAM.

Hey there,

Right now, I'm running Windows XP on my C drive and Windows 7 build 7100 on my H drive. Every time I boot up, the menu gives me the choice between "Older version of Windows" and "Windows 7."
1. If I want to install the latest version of Windows 7 over this current Windows 7 build 7100, will the XP option still show up under "Older version of Windows" if I just install the new Windows 7 onto the H partition?
2. One more thing—I noticed that whenever I boot into Windows 7 build 7100, my drive letters go totally haywire. My C drive becomes D, D turns into F, F shifts to E, and H ends up being C... can I just rename them, or is that going to cause a massive headache?

Thanks in advance.

If you take a closer look at this page, you'll see this stated clearly:

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
*1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
*1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
*16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
*DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Based on that, regarding available memory, you meet the bare minimum requirements for Windows 7 to function.
From my own experience, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in a virtual machine and assigned it just 1 GB of RAM (out of 4 GB total). As far as 👍performance Information and Tools👍 go, I'm giving it a "two thumbs up" so far.
