AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512MB RAM.
ATI Radeon 9200

It probably worked, though I guess it’s a question of how. I have Windows 95 running on a laptop with only 3MB of RAM, even though the minimum requirement is 4.

It worked. 🙄

Joshua Garcia3 said:How am I supposed to know if it wasn't working at 100%? I guess I'll be the judge of whether it worked or not—and now I'm testing it on a different computer anyway.

Intel Pentium 4 2.4
Maybe 1GB of RAM.
ATI Radeon 9550

Everything is working perfectly. If you don't believe me, feel free to come over and check it out yourself. I managed to get Windows 7 up and running, and I even tracked down all the drivers, including those for this ancient graphics card. 🙂

But honestly, it runs so much better on this specific configuration. 🙂

I guess I believe you. 😁 It’s not quite that, but when the drive starts thrashing through virtual memory just because you wanted to play a single song in Winamp, it really isn't ideal. 😁 Windows XP might technically "run" with 20MB of RAM, but I guess you could call that a struggle. It's probably not going to be much of an experience.

That all holds water. I remember running Windows XP on an Intel Celeron 466 with just 192 MB of RAM. Sure, it took a full year just to boot up, and you’d probably wait two years just to get a single program to actually launch, but I guess it worked. 🙂

Man, those were the days 😬 I used to run Windows XP on my very first rig, which I picked up for $117. It had an Intel Pentium 233 and 128MB of EDO RAM, heh... It stuttered a bit, but it was fine, I guess—enough to spend my time spamming forums. 😁

Hey everyone, I could use some help here.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the Administrator login prompt when I'm booting up my Windows 7 machine? Right before I actually get into the system, the Windows logo pops up, and it seems like nothing else happens until I click on it to proceed.
Is there a way to just bypass that step?

Thanks!

There is one thing about Windows 7 that just makes absolutely no sense to me. I have a 5.1 setup, everything is plugged in exactly where it should be, and the settings within Windows 7 show everything is configured correctly. I’ve gone through the speaker tests over and over—I swear I’ve tested each individual speaker at least 300 times—and they all work fine. But the second I actually try to play something, whether it's a movie or an MP3, only two speakers kick in. It’s driving me crazy! Instead of actual surround sound, I'm basically stuck with stereo. No center channel, no rear channels, nothing... just a total mess. I'm feeling really Angry because I honestly have no clue what else to try at this point!

I installed some games on Windows 7, but when I launch them, they aren't filling the screen properly. There’s this black bar about two inches wide on the side. Is there any way to get full screen through some kind of adjustment? I've tried messing with the resolutions, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I think I read somewhere how to fix this, but I can't quite remember where.

I'm guessing your own user account already has admin rights, so you probably don't even need to log into the main admin account. If that's the case, just hit up the command prompt:

net user administrator /active:yes -to enable it
net user administrator /active:no -to disable it

You could also mess with the user group settings, but honestly, this way is way faster, I guess.

I didn't feel like digging through 50 pages of posts, so I apologize if I'm repeating something already asked.
Basically, I want to install Windows 7 without having to reinstall all my programs from a different partition. Is it possible to export the registry from Windows XP, install Windows 7, and then import that registry into Windows 7 so that all those programs on the other partition are recognized in the registry?
The XP installation is 32-bit, while the 7 version is 64-bit.

Is it even possible for Windows 7 Ultimate to take up 26GB on an HDD?🙏

Hey,
I just finished a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my Acer machine—it's a Quad-Core 2.4, 4GB RAM, with an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS. Windows 7 handled everything perfectly; it even found and wiped out that hidden Acer recovery partition, then went ahead and installed all the drivers for my USB gear (camera, printer, etc.). It’s running flawlessly. Everything feels way faster now. On my hard drive, Windows 7 is taking up about 9GB.
Finally, I can say goodbye to that Windows Vista garbage—it was nowhere near ready for prime time.

I happen to be one of those "new" Windows 7 users myself. I can honestly say I am quite satisfied with the performance, especially considering I am running this on just 1GB RAM and an Intel Celeron 466. All the drivers were installed automatically without any hassle... truly excellent...

I just finished setting up Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in a virtual machine. I allocated 1 GB of RAM and a 40 GB hard drive. Right now, it’s sitting at 11.7 GB of usage. 🙂

Thanks a ton, nofrx!

I recently installed Windows 7 on my PC, and now I am trying to figure out which newer titles I might be able to download, since it seems like nothing quite recent actually runs on 7. That said, I did manage to get FIFA 10 and PES 2010 running perfectly fine. My question is, what about everything else? I suppose I am wondering if other games—whether they are newer releases or perhaps some older classics—will actually work on Windows 7.

For those older titles—just right-click the exe file, go to Compatibility, check the box for Windows XP SP3, hit Apply, and you should be good to go.
Maybe try installing some older games first and let us know how it turns out 🙂

What about the more recent ones? Maybe from 2008 or 2009?

So, I’ve got all my drivers installed and everything is running smooth as silk—everything works perfectly, really—but for some reason, the "switch user" option has completely vanished from my menu 😲
Any ideas on how to fix this?

So, if I go to start - Shut down (right arrow), is the first option there Switch User?
