Who said you have to stare at the rearview mirror the entire time you're driving through the pits? You can obviously check the mirror right when you're pulling out of the box.

It’s not like Moss hasn't nearly plowed into someone exiting his own pit lane before. He clearly thinks the rearview mirror is just there for decoration.

And look, whether it's the lollipop man or whatever system Ford uses, they signal the driver that it's clear to exit when the mechanics are done with tires and fuel, not just whenever there isn't a traffic jam at the exit.

You guys are clueless. 🙄

I'm pretty sure the driver can't see a damn thing while he's sitting in the pits, so I honestly think it's on the guy with the lollipop to make sure the coast is clear.

Here's why I think that:

p.s. In both these shots, you can see where the lollipop man is standing. It's obvious he has a way better view of the pit lane compared to the driver, who can't see anything through that swarm of mechanics surrounding the car. 😉

The driver should just stop at the pit lane line, do a quick check—you know, mirrors, blind spots... then go. 😬

p.s. if you look at both photos, you can see where the guy with the lollipop is standing, and honestly, he has a much better view of the pit lane than the driver, who is basically blindfolded by a wall of mechanics surrounding the car.😉

The driver should probably just pull up to that pit lane line and do a quick check—check the mirrors, watch the blind spots... then maybe he can head out. 😬

Just honk the horn or wave a hand, I guess...😁😉

The driver can't actually see the pit lane while he's sitting parked in the garage
His rearview mirrors offer nothing more than a dark void, just enough to see exactly who is tailing him and maybe get a quick glance at the condition of those rear tires, but that’s about it
It really falls on the lollipop man to signal when it's safe to pull out—once all the work is finished and there isn't anyone posing a safety risk, which naturally includes drivers coming through the pit lane itself
If we expected the driver to be constantly monitoring the garage area too, pit stops would easily take an extra second or two longer☕

I’m definitely siding with the folks who say a driver shouldn't have to worry about what the mechanics are doing in the pits, or be stressing over which other driver is coming up on them while they're trying to get moving. ☕
