Look, I’m gonna need some help here too...
So, I'm looking at buying a phone from the USA, and this would be my first time
trying a transaction like this—you know, through the mail...
I have no clue how the whole process actually works, and honestly? I'd be crushed if I got scammed
and ended up losing my cash and everything else.

...so can someone just walk me through how this all works?
The package delivery, the payment, the whole nine yards!
Thanks in advance!😉🙂

Check this thread out; there’s a massive discussion going on about online shopping, so you should head over there and ask, provided you include some specifics such as:

- exactly which vendor you're planning to buy the phone from
- your intended method of payment

As for shipping, it's straightforward. The sender can provide a tracking number so you can monitor the shipment online. But seriously, go ask around in that specific thread first. 🙂

Absolute jokes. They haven't even gotten back to us yet. I'm dying to know why they're taking forever🥳

Unbelievable!!! I am absolutely fed up with the USPS!!!! I went in to mail three packages—just like I always do—but they still insisted on undervaluing them. I even filled out the receipt confirmation and clearly marked the value as $17 right on the package itself... I paid $33 for the whole thing, so I guess it's just pure incompetence at this point. HELP!!!!!! 🤷 🤷 🤷

I probably wouldn't pay them a dime until they actually provide some sort of explanation.

You sent it as a registered letter when you should have just used a standard package. A small parcel under 11 lbs is only about $14.40. The actual paperwork is identical; they just change the heading 😢 Honestly, don't be so naive—next time, don't pay a dime until they actually explain what’s going on. You can always just say, "No thanks, I'm good." Value your own hard-earned money. It’s obvious they’re being rude and nobody there is going to hold your hand through the process 😢 Even for regular packages, you still declare the value, and those rules apply just like they do for registered mail. The only difference is that the letter costs ten times more 😢 Bass, I feel terrible for you!

The explanation is basically that their shipping rates are tied strictly to weight—as if that makes any sense. It’s ridiculous. From now on, I might as well just pick everything up myself; I'd probably spend less on gas driving it to its destination than giving my hard-earned money to those thieves. 😠😠😠😠

I've tried everything—standard shipping, certified mail, even registered letters... but it’s always the same story, I end up paying WAY more than I should 😠😠
It feels like here at the local USPS office, they're just looking for any excuse to rip you off 😠 well, maybe they'll get what's coming to them eventually 🤣 !!!

I guess you can always plan things out ahead of time at home so you know exactly what to say to prevent them from scamming you. 😁 Honestly, my wife ended up swindling me too—well, not me personally, but the girls I was sending stuff to, since they were the ones footing the bill for shipping. But that was way back when I was first starting out with them. Nowadays, they don't even try it. 😉

The local post office could really use a better marketing strategy. Right now, customers walk in feeling completely lost because there’s zero signage or clear info on what services are actually offered. It leaves everything up to the clerk at the window, which creates this sketchy vibe—like you're being hustled rather than helped. Honestly, they should probably start by teaching their staff some basic customer service skills.

I’m in complete agreement with that last post—honestly. I have no clue what services are actually available, so whenever I show up, I'm basically at the mercy of the staff... who, I suspect, won't be any more helpful than usual since everyone there seems to view a customer as nothing more than an unwelcome interruption.🤣🤣

For instance, why does www.usps.com exist? It lays everything out clearly and even provides a toll-free number for those who apparently find surfing the web or clicking through a few links too taxing. Civic duty, I suppose. 👍

It exists, sure, but it’s far from enough. These days, the real game is about pushing services through targeted marketing and actually tailoring things to the user. Sure, keeping a client happy is important, but wouldn't you agree it's even more vital to build a client who keeps coming back because they actually recognize and value the quality? Most people don't even realize they can use www.usps.com or call a toll-free number, which is exactly where marketing needs to step in and point them toward the right resources. The Postal Service still has a lot of work to do if it wants to actually function in the 21st century.

Folks... I find myself facing a bit of a dilemma. I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to ship a pair of boots—specifically, how to package them properly. I don't have a large shipping box on hand, and quite frankly, I am at a complete loss. Would it be acceptable to simply place them in a heavy-duty bag and wrap the whole thing in kraft paper to mimic a standard parcel? Does anyone have any practical suggestions?

Definitely don't put them in a bag 😁 you have no idea how they handle packages; it’s like they think they’re playing football with them—NO bags

Basically, yes, but they use paper lining on the inside and that thicker cardstock on the outside...

Well, that is precisely what I was getting at! You start with a larger bag, then wrap it in newspaper, and finally secure it with that thicker, more rigid paper.

👍

Ladies, quick question: does anyone know if they’ll actually penalize me for a package being a few millimeters undersized? I'm trying to ship something small, so I put it in a larger box, but the dimensions are exactly 8.6cm x 18cm. Their website specifies it needs to be at least 9 x 15... so I am technically short by a tiny fraction on one side. Are they really going to be that pedantic about it?

Arlena, if what you're sending is relatively small, you could always just pop it into one of those yellow bubble mailers from FedEx and send it via certified mail; it should only cost you $5.00
