A package up to 11 pounds costs $14.40
If you include shipping in the buyout, you pay the $14.40, and the recipient pays an additional $3.25 on top of the price you set
I don't think it can cost any more than that, but you should probably double-check with the USPS just to be safe.

Chloe Moore65 said:If you're looking at shipping a package weighing up to 11 pounds—that's about 5 kg for those of us used to the metric system—you're looking at a cost of $14.40. It’s a pretty straightforward rate, really.
If that fee gets tacked onto the buyout, you're looking at paying $14.40—and then the recipient has to cover their own portion on top of that. $3.25 Based on that price you just mentioned—and I mean really looking at it from all angles—it’s exactly where things stand.
I honestly feel like they've hit the ceiling at this point—there’s just no way it can go any higher—but then again, you never know with these things, right? Honestly, you might as well just ask directly in the post itself—it would save everyone a lot of time!

It’s driving me absolutely crazy—I mean, I’m actually considering posting a public inquiry just to ask exactly when and how I’m supposed to finish studying this entire rulebook. Honestly, this lady at my local post office? She lives to mess with me. Just constant little jabs!😕
I have to admit—I’m actually feeling a little bit spooked here.

I have some books I need to get sent out—and up until now, I've just been slipping them into padded envelopes and sending them off as standard mail. $7.00 Shipping costs, registered mail, or whatever you want to call those extra fees—it’s always one of those little things that trips you up when you're just trying to get a package from point A to point B. Honestly, between the standard rates and the "insured" options, it feels like you need a PhD in logistics just to send a simple box through USPS without feeling like you've been overcharged. It's one of those minor headaches that just adds up, isn't it?

So now she wants me to send it via cash on delivery—you know, where she pays both the item price and the shipping upfront, and then the mail carrier drops the cash off at my doorstep? Honestly, I’m a bit hesitant. I remember the last time I tried something like that, some guy ended up getting hit with an absolutely astronomical shipping fee that made my eyes water. It just seems like a recipe for a headache.
So, what if I just toss all those books into a box and ship them off as a single package? It seems like the most logical way to handle this—just get them packed up and out the door!

Exactly. You just package it up and fill out the form specifying how much the recipient needs to pay. On top of that, you cover the shipping costs—so about $14.40—and then once the recipient gets the box, they end up paying roughly $3.25 more than what was listed on the paperwork.

So, I was wondering, can I just send this thing off as a certified letter if I wrap it up in one of those yellow padded envelopes and seal it tight? It basically looks identical to just tossing it in a standard poly mailer, except, you know, it’s plastic—does that actually make a difference to the post office or the sorting machines?🤔🤷 It's just a small clutch bag.

I believe you can. A box styled like a package should be able to go out as a certified letter

I got such a lovely little surprise from the USPS today... So, a few days ago I was dropping off a package, and right as I'm walking out the door, I realize the clerk processed it as a certified letter instead of a parcel. I definitely did a bit of an eye roll because I’m pretty sure I asked them five different times to send it as a package, but honestly, I just didn't have the energy to turn around and go back inside... Fast forward to today, and I get this notice from the post office saying they corrected the shipping label, refunded the price difference to my account, and even scribbled a little handwritten note on the slip... It’s honestly pretty incredible🙏:
A shoutout to the USPS👍

That's inaccurate. It isn't really a case of them paying $3.25 more; it's just that there's a COD fee which is 3.66% of the total amount. The minimum charge is $3.00 and the cap is $80. On top of that, you've got the standard $1.75 for the delivery itself.

Hey! Does anyone know how long it takes to ship a 6kg package? Also, what kind of value should I list on the form?

Can I just send this little yellow envelope as a standard package instead of using certified mail?
My thinking is—if I go the certified route and they lose it, I get back about three times the shipping cost, right? But if I send it as a package, I’d get whatever value I actually list on the label.
The thing I'm sending is pretty valuable, but it's tiny—not really "package" sized—so I still want to make sure I'm covered if things go sideways.
thx

Yeah, you can. Just make sure you have your shipping label already filled out when you hand over the envelope. You don't want to get caught off guard at the counter.

So, what if my aunt tells me I can't do it? Is there actually any point in trying to argue with her, or should I just let it go? 😬
If I end up being unable to send it as a package, would sending it via certified mail be a decent backup plan? 🤔

The only thing you can really do is insist on getting a tracking number. As long as your envelope is larger than 3x5 inches, they can't turn you away... and honestly, if one branch gives you trouble, why not just head over to a different USPS location?

If I just can't get a package sent out, should I just go with certified mail instead? 🤔

You probably don't need to start a whole argument right now, but you could always just casually mention how it works for you, like saying "oh, it's fine, this is how I always receive and send things..." 😁

I’ve gotta give a shout-out again to those two guys working the shipping counter over at Branimirov !!... they are seriously awesome. They’re always down for a joke and I’ve never had a single issue sending stuff through them. If only there were more people like them instead of the other types, the USPS would have a stellar reputation 🙂

It’s not exactly my local branch, but I might start switching to them too.😁 I already ditched my regular post office because the ladies there are just awful. I used to go all the time and they knew me, but several times I ended up having to circle back and deal with their nonsense because they couldn't get anything right. 😲The last straw was when a card I sent from Chicago to Chicago somehow didn't make it. She wanted me to send it normally, but the envelope was huge—there was no way it could just vanish. I'm pretty sure one of those ladies just kept it for herself.☕

The last time we were expecting a delivery, someone from the USPS actually showed up at our door—well, through the intercom, really—to ask if the package had arrived and if the mail carrier had been polite enough.
I glanced out the window and, sure enough, there was a postal truck idling right out front. I guess they must be dealing with a massive wave of complaints lately if they’ve started running these little internal investigations.

a can I actually send a small box—like, a jacket or something—as if it were just a standard certified letter😬
The item is worth about $67, so should I just take the gamble and list the value at $80... or what? What's the smartest move here?

And while I have you guys, let me ask this one more time: can I ship my stuff wrapped up the way I did it before? You know, just paper, a plastic bag, sealed tight and all neat, but without using those annoying bubble mailers?🤔
(I could probably upload a photo so you can see exactly how I’ve got it packed, though I'm not sure if the system will even let me, since last time I thought about doing it that way but ended up just not sending it at all)🤷
