I wanted to share the one and only bad experience I've ever had with the USPS..
Basically, I arranged a swap with someone from a forum. I wrapped everything up pretty carefully; the main item was a heavy winter jacket, and since I didn't have a box big enough, I tucked the other items inside the jacket, then wrapped the whole thing in layers of paperβ€”both the fancy kind and just standard brown kraft paper. I even went overboard wrapping it in twine three times and taping it all down. Honestly, it looked like something you'd find in a survivalist bunker πŸ˜‚
The moment I got to the post office and handed it over, the clerk told me there was a chance it might tear because the paper layer felt too thin. I offered to go grab something else to pack it in, but she just brushed me off, saying it would be fine and pass through without any issues..
Well, the package arrived at its destination the very next day 😲, completely shredded. All three layers of paper were torn apart, and naturally, the most beautiful and expensive items were missing...
When the girl I sent it to complained to the clerk about what happened, the woman’s excuse was simply that it was my fault for not packing it properly. In the end, nothing was left of those items. The girl was incredibly sweet and understanding about the situation, so I ended up sending her some different things she picked out as an apology.. But seriously, no matter how large or small what you're sending is, it's always best to use a sturdy box if you can. You don't want to end up dealing with a mess like this...

I suppose I should recount my little encounter at the post office today... Honestly, I’m still not quite sure how to feel about it, but it was certainly a first for me.

I walked in with a packaged dress intended for a friend, planning to send it off as a standard parcel. Initially, the clerk insisted it wasn't possible because the weight was hovering right around that 2-pound mark, though she eventually relented. The strange part was that she then demanded my ID and proceeded to transcribe details from it onto the package, which felt entirely unnecessary. I think I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on, even if it is the only branch in my neighborhood.πŸ‘Ž
I have never encountered an issue like this before; as long as things stay under two pounds, nobody has ever asked to see my identification.

Does anyone happen to know where I can pick up those yellow bubble mailers somewhere else? It feels like the prices at the local Post Office are getting a little out of hand latelyβ€”I was checking them out the other day and just thought, "Really?" 🀷

Hey everyone, has anyone noticed any changes with USPS lately?πŸ˜•
I've already had two different customers reach out to me today saying they ended up being charged more than the amount we actually agreed on. Anyone know what's going on there?😒

You can usually find them at places like Barnes & NobleπŸ˜‰
They tend to be a little easier on the wallet than the Post Office...

I've already had two customers reach out today saying they were charged more than what we originally agreed on, so I'm wondering what's going on here.😒

I dropped off a package earlier today and ended up paying about $12.70... which seems pretty much identical to what I’ve been paying the last few times.

Nicole Cooper72 said:I sent off a package today, and it cost me about twelve bucks and changeβ€”maybe $12.70? Pretty much the same as the last few times I've done it...

No, they didn't charge her at the Post Office counter. It was actually the mail carrier who collected the extra cash right at the doorstep.🀷

I need to ship some stuff over to Canada, just some general merchandiseβ€”nothing too heavy or fragile... does anyone have an idea of what the shipping costs might look like? Also, I'm trying to figure out if it’s actually worth it to send it as a standard package or if I should go with registered mail to be safe...

I stopped by the local bookstore today and picked up a few envelopesβ€”one padded mailer, two small ones, and two large ones. It felt like a better deal than heading down to the Post Office, though I honestly can't remember their exact pricing since I’ve been shipping everything in cardboard boxes lately. I realized I was running low on my preferred packaging, so a quick trip for supplies was necessary...😒

You can grab them individually or just pick up a full pack if you want to stock up. Just thought I'd mention it for anyone interested...πŸ™‚

A few days ago, I was at the local USPS office sending a small perfume package via certified mail, weighing in at just 0.43 lbs with a shipping cost of $5.75, yet my sister went to a different branch in the same city to send a heavy 22lb box for a charity drive πŸ‘ and ended up paying $6.75 for certified shipping as well... I haven't dealt with much parcel shipping myself, but looking at the numbers, it feels like there's something fundamentally off about the price gap between half a pound and twenty-two pounds $1.00...?? 🀷

Sending it as a standard parcel isn't recommended; you're mixing up the terms here.
For certified mail, weight is the key factor and rates vary accordingly. Any package under 11 lbs with a value up to $27 will cost 12.27

So, here’s the situationβ€”I had a perfume sent out to me on February 12th, but by the 19th, the whole thing was sent right back to the sender because I never received a single notification or even saw the package show up at my door.
Now, they tried again this past Tuesday, and still, nothing has arrived. I actually went down to the local Post Office to see if they could track it down, but apparently, they haven't even seen it come through their system yet.

It was sent via certified mail,

I honestly can't wrap my head around what the issue is here.

restlesstiger47 said:It wasn't at the service counter either; they had the mail carrier collect the extra fee right at the doorstep...🀷

Just to add my own experience to this... I recently bought a vest from a lovely seller and everything seemed fine at first. Usually, my mail carrier just leaves a slip in my mailbox, and I head down to the local post office to pick up my package without any extra fees. But this time, the carrier brought the package right to my door and charged me an additional delivery fee on top of everything else... $1.75I don't think... I wasn't arguing or anything like that... it just felt strange to me... If I hadn't been home, would the package have just sat there at the local post office waiting for me without anyone saying a word? I just don't get it...🀷

Personally, I always opt for certified shipping every single time.
I make sure to hand over a perfectly filled-out customs form along with my package, too.
Honestly, you can send just about anything via certified mail if you want that peace of mind.
The problem with just sending a standard parcel is that you're basically flying blindβ€”there’s zero guarantee it actually arrives,
and you don't get a tracking number to follow its journey... which is why I never, ever ship things that way.
I need to know my stuff is safe! I’d much rather shell out an extra four or five bucks$1.75 than deal with the massive headache of something getting lost in the shuffle.😍

I don't think anyone bothers with certified mail here; most people just send it as a standard package with insurance. That way, if it goes missing, you get back whatever amount you declared on the label. Usually, we all just put $27, since that’s the typical range, but when I've sent something more expensive, I make sure to list the actual value.

I'm looking to mail a piece of clothing, and I was wondering if putting it inside a large yellow envelope would cause the postal service to classify it as a package instead of just standard mail.
