Thanks for the input, everyone. I think Iโ€™ll swing by the local Post Office tomorrow morning to see if ๐Ÿ‘
has finally shown up.
It was my oversightโ€”had I realized there was an extra fee for a certified receipt, I would have settled it right then and there. But, well, now I know for next time...

So, I need to ship a skirt to another city, and my plan is to send it via a parcel service. Does this mean I am strictly required to use a box, wrap it up securely, and specify that it should be sent via certified mail? Should I declare the value on the package, put my return address in the top left corner, and then place the recipient's address on the right side, or am I overcomplicating things? Also, what kind of shipping costs should I realistically expect to pay for this? My thanks to the kind and helpful people responding here.๐Ÿ™‚

Don't send it as registered mail. Instead, go with the package option; it'll cost you exactly $4.25 provided it weighs under 11 pounds and the total value stays under $27
.
You could also just use a large padded envelope. Weigh it at home first, then check the rates for registered mail at the local Post Office. If the envelope is cheaper, go that route.
Just keep in mind that the envelope itself will run you about $1.25
.

Red alert regarding our beloved USPS ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž

I was waiting on a certified letter for over a week nowโ€”and let me tell you, this was just a local delivery from one side of Chicago to the otherโ€”but the mail carrier never showed up. Thereโ€™s always someone from my household home 24/7, so thereโ€™s no excuse! Plus, I didn't even get a slip left in the mailbox saying a delivery was attempted...
It started feeling a bit sketchy, so I decided to head down to the local post office myself. The clerk checked the system, saw they had a package sitting there for me, and handed it over. But when I looked at the envelope, it said:
NOTICE OF ๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•
REFUSED DELIVERY ๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•
RETURN TO CHICAGO MAIN BRANCH

๐Ÿคท Does anyone have any idea what on earth happened here?
The lady at the counter couldn't give me a straight answer or explain the logic behind itโ€”she just mentioned that I caught it by the skin of my teeth, because if I hadn't shown up, it would have been sent back to the main hub in downtown Chicago the very next day. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž

My real concern, however, is whether this option allows me to track the shipment's progress. Will I still receive that standard tracking numberโ€”the one used to verify delivery if the recipient claims they never actually got the package? Thanks a million.๐Ÿ˜‰

You have to fill out the slip and hand it in when you pay. That way, if the recipient doesn't end up getting it, we can clearly see where the holdup happened.

I was waiting for a certified letter for over a weekโ€”it was just a local delivery from one side of town to the other here in the Statesโ€”and no mail carrier ever showed up. There's someone in my household home 24/7, so that's impossible, and I didn't even get a slip left in the box saying they tried...
It felt sketchy, so I headed down to the local USPS branch. The clerk checked her system and saw there was indeed a package waiting for me. She handed it over, but the envelope had this label on it:
NOTICE OF (๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•)
REFUSED DELIVERY (๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•)
RETURN TO Main Post Office 10000

๐ŸคทDoes anyone have an explanation for what on earth happened there?
The clerk at the post office couldn't give me any concrete answers or explain whyโ€”she just said I caught it at the very last second, otherwise, it would have been sent back to the main regional hub tomorrow.๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž

Maybe they switched your mail carrier and he couldn't find you or something... that actually happened to me once. I went a whole month without getting any mail just because they changed carriers, and since we're renters, my last name wasn't even on the mailboxโ€”it was only on the apartment door itself. When I finally called the post office, it turned out it was "my fault," even though the carrier is supposed to bring packages right to your door, not just leave them by the curb!

I have a quick question, and I would truly appreciate any insight from those who might be well-informed on the matter. ๐Ÿ™‚
Last Saturday morning, I dropped off a package at a local USPS branch to be sent from Chicago to Los Angeles. It was sent COD, and the amount due upon delivery was $50. It has now been over a week, yet the recipient hasn't received the parcel, nor has it been returned to me. If the package has indeed been lost within the postal system, am I legally entitled to claim a refund for the value of the contents?

I sent a package from Chicago to Miami last Saturday morning... I dropped it off at the main USPS branch. It was a COD shipment, and the amount due was $50. Well, itโ€™s been over a week now, and the girl hasn't received her package, nor has anyone sent it back to me. If they actually lost it in the mail, am I able to claim my money backโ€”basically the value of the package contents??

What do you mean by saying you left it at the main post office?
For instance,
if the recipient is in a specific neighborhood in Seattle but you just wrote "Seattle" on the label, the package will
1. wander aimlessly between different sorting facilities
2. get sent right back to you marked as "undeliverable"

Right now, it's probably just sitting in some warehouse waiting for five days to pass before they send it back to your doorstep.
If you want to file a formal claim, you'll need your receipt and a photo ID,
but honestly, a better move might be calling the post office directly (try asking the information desk for the specific branch number where you dropped it off) to see if you can track its actual location.
That way, if the recipient is someone you know, they could potentially go pick it up in person.

2. be sent back to you marked as undeliverable

It is probably just sitting there right now, waiting five days before it eventually finds its way back to your doorstep.
To file a formal inquiry, you would need your ID and the receipt,
but perhaps a more practical solution would be calling the post officeโ€”try asking the information desk for the specific branch number where you dropped it offโ€”to see if they can locate it.
Then, if you are the intended recipient, you could simply go pick it up.

I left the package at the post office near the main train station... and since my destination was Los Angeles, I used the 90001 zip code.๐Ÿ˜ข

Honestly, just give the LA post office a call. Read them the tracking number from your receipt and ask them straight up if the package has even landed on their desk yet.
We've seen plenty of talk on here about how the postal service fails to notify peopleโ€”lots of folks missing out on notifications for their deliveries entirely.
You know, itโ€™s entirely possible the package actually made it to LA, but the girl just never got the alert.
It wouldn't be the first time that happened.

There has been quite a bit of discussion here regarding how the USPS fails to notify people, leaving them completely unaware that a package is waiting.
It is entirely possible the parcel is sitting right there in San Diego, yet she simply never received a notification.
That wouldn't be the first time such an oversight occurred.

I appreciate the assistance. ๐Ÿ™‚
Hopefully, I will be able to figure out a solution shortly. ๐Ÿ™‚

Quick question, though I probably already know the answer (and no, Iโ€™m not just fishing for sympathy ๐Ÿ˜):

So, I sent a letter to my client via standard USPS mail because she specifically asked for it. I even gave her a heads-up that there was a real chance it might never actually reach her hands.
Well, guess what happened? She ended up getting an empty envelopeโ€”it had clearly been tampered with and resealed. ๐Ÿ™„.

I know there isn't much ground to sue over regarding a recommendation or a package, but is there any kind of formal way to file a complaint or appeal this? Since she received an empty, opened envelope that clearly had a significant amount of money ๐Ÿ˜• inside?
I really want to help her out, even if it's just a little bit ๐Ÿ™‚

I suspect there isn't much you can actually do about it, though I can't say for certain.

I honestly don't think you guys can get anything done at this point, unfortunately. I'd much rather just pay for my own referral or package myselfโ€”even when the customer expects me to cover itโ€”just because of how things have been going lately...๐Ÿ‘Ž

Well, it actually happenedโ€”she ended up receiving an empty envelope that had clearly been opened and then resealed. ๐Ÿ™„.

I know there aren't really any grounds for a lawsuit regarding recommended packages or specific shipping insurance, but is there *any* way to file a complaint or some kind of grievance? Since she received an empty, tampered-with envelope that still had a significant amount of money ๐Ÿ˜• written on it, I'd really love to help her out if there's any way at all.
๐Ÿ™‚

You can certainly file a claim, but honestly, itโ€™s probably not worth the hassle.
The most you'll get back is five times the postage. If it was just standard mail, you're looking at maybe $15-$6.75.

More drama with HP again๐Ÿ˜
I missed my delivery from the local hub because I never got a notification and the mail carrier didn't even bother stopping by! It was sent right back after just two days, even though itโ€™s supposed to sit at the post office for five...๐Ÿ‘Ž>
So, they tried reshipping it three days ago, but still nothing! Usually, all my other packages arrive within 24 hours without fail, but this one is just being difficult. I actually swung by the post office today hoping my little package might be just sitting there gathering dust, but nope, nothing to see here๐Ÿ˜ข>
Honestly, what am I even supposed to do at this point? I wouldn't be shocked if some other user on here messaged me tomorrow saying their order got sent back too...๐Ÿ˜ >

Thanks girls, I'll let her know and we'll see how it goes ๐Ÿ™‚

@ Elizabeth Brown90โ€”hold on, maybe it just got stuck in transit or something... if it really sat at the USPS office for only two days and you've got proof, you should probably file a formal complaint with them.

๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Happy New Year to you all! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿคท My address is clearly marked on both the mailbox and the door, and since I live in an apartment complex, thereโ€™s only one single entrance to find. I honestly don't know how much harder it could get ๐Ÿ˜‚

In the meantime, I found out that mail carriers would much rather deliver standard packages (when they have them) instead of certified mail, mostly because of those little $1.75 bonuses they get for deliveries ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

How much experience do you all have with this being true?

Because if that's really the case, I think it's incredibly rude, discriminatory, and frankly pathetic โ˜•
Given how poorly packages are handledโ€”even when they're clearly marked "fragile"โ€”I wanted to ask you guys, my dear fellow forum members, what should one even do about this... ๐Ÿ˜•

I don't have physical proof right this second, but honestly, it doesn't take a genius to connect the dots here.๐Ÿคท
It was shipped out Tuesday from San Diego, arrived Wednesday, and then by Monday it was already being sent back to me! That means they basically tossed it back on Friday after only two days because Saturday and Sunday obviously don't count for mail delivery...๐Ÿ˜ข

Now the tracking is acting like itโ€™s been "in transit" since Tuesday again... I mean, seriously, I don't even know what to think anymore! โ˜•
