crogamer -
cpu $67
gpu $33
ram 100-$43
motherboard—honestly, I haven't a clue, just aiming for $50 max
These are realistic prices, though many people would try to ask for more (it’s just a question of whether they could actually find a buyer)

Anonymous said:So, I’ve been staring at this ASUS M2N-SLI deluxe Kingmax 2 lately—just sitting there on the bench—and honestly, it’s a trip. It’s one of those boards that really makes you think about how much hardware changes in what feels like a heartbeat. You look at the specs, you look at the layout, and you just realize we're living in a very specific era of PC building. It’s got that certain... presence. Not necessarily "modern powerhouse" presence, but more like "I know exactly what I am" presence. Anyway, just some thoughts while I tinker around.
Kingmax 2GB 800MHz DDR2
I can't quite remember if I was looking at the AMD Athlon 64 dual Core 2400 or the 2600—it’s one of those things that slips your mind right when you need it—but either way, they're both interesting little chips.
So, my Nvidia 8500 is basically running a sauna in here—it’s overheating like crazy.

Is it actually worth ditching my desktop for a laptop?
My current rig is running an Intel Core 2 Duo 5000+ dual core at 2.6hz
with an nvidia geforce 9600 gt 512
and 2 gb of ram
power supply is 430 w
running on a 22 inch monitor
The laptop I'm looking at:

It still has two years left on the warranty

If you're asking specifically about gaming, I’d definitely stick with a desktop—you just can't get that kind of performance out of a laptop. Plus, with a PC, you always have the freedom to swap out your graphics card, upgrade to a beefier power supply, or add more RAM. Even with a laptop, you might be able to bump up the memory, but it's nothing compared to what you can do with a full tower.

And honestly, it really comes down to personal preference—I’d probably just leave it as is since the impact is much stronger that way.

Are you actually looking for portability or something? I mean—you’re trading in a high-end rig for something way weaker—I just don't see how that makes any sense for you.

Yeah, I definitely need the laptop, and honestly, this looks like a solid deal to me... I can't imagine finding a way to get something more powerful than this under these circumstances...

You didn't give me much detail regarding the PC specs—like the power supply, the case, or the storage—but I'll give you a ballpark estimate. The tower alone is worth roughly $333. It really depends on the specifics, especially the monitor. If it isn't a high-end model with an IPS panel, you're looking at the cheapest new 22" displays priced under $233. Given that, trading up for that laptop makes sense if you can swap it, provided you're looking at the price point rather than gaming performance, as others have already pointed out. Otherwise, you could easily find a brand new machine with 4GB of RAM for about $833 at a place like Best Buy

It’s easily worth at least $700, excluding the case—and since I have no clue what kind of chassis we're dealing with here, I wouldn't want to give you an inaccurate estimate. Just wait for Fosna to give you a precise valuation.
Look, here’s the bottom line: that power supply is absolute junk—it’s barely worth fifty bucks. The hardware itself is dated and honestly feels a bit ancient by today's standards. On the bright side, the RAM still holds its own, and the processor is actually decent enough for what we consider modern performance. But the real issue is... $100 I just picked up a new Celeron from the shop that’s actually a bit of an upgrade. The motherboard is decent enough, though it’s running on an outdated socket—nothing too surprising, really.

I mean, look—it’s worth about that much because it's ancient tech and you can't really upgrade anything on it.
